Back-to-back tasting with the 82 Chapters - Chapter #2 (RX17715); first tasting of the evening. Color noticeably stronger than Chapter #2. Swirls watery in the glass and only minimally viscous. Smell again sweetish woody-vanilla with a dash of esters and something burning in the nose; however much more pleasant and mature than Chapter #2. Makes you eager for the taste. I had to get used to this one first, as the first impressions are: watery and at the same time quite sharp-edged. Once that's gone, yellow fruits unfold, but without too much sweetness and the vanilla is no longer present. A bigger sip and saliva flows massively. Woody on the palate after some time. Overall impression: rather alcoholic-woody than fruity. I like it a tick better than Chapter #2 and clearly better than Chapter #1.

So, the third in the 82 Chapters crew. Due to lack of glasses in the hotel, this whisky glass has to do. Somehow it fits. The nose I find very pleasantly fruity with a floral touch. On the palate, however, the whisky finish clearly comes through and is definitely too present for me! Too bad, the nose promised more. For me, this rum is nothing, but maybe for whisky lovers. The price is sensational.

Tasted against the other two 82 Chapters to Newcastle. None of the three bottlings convince me. Like the 62.3%, this one gets a few points more than the diluted one. This one ends up in second place because I taste a slightly disturbing whisky note.

So I tasted this one again calmly. Unlike the other from 82 Chapters of Newcastle, here the whisky finish is recognizable. But as a conclusion, I have to say, this one isn’t so bad either. I wonder how you can bring such a rum to market for under €40 and how other bottlers ask so much even though they aren’t significantly better.

Underdog Split Chapter 3. In my opinion also quite well done. A bit stronger than the predecessor Chapter 2. Fruity and bitter at the same time. I liked both well. Thanks to Zabo for the interesting split.
