The whole point here is the wood: fresh American oak that members say dials down the young base rum's raw, spirity edge and pours in vanillin, a little honey-maple sweetness and warm spice. Underneath, banana carries over from the base plus nutty and dark-chocolate notes on the palate. At 62.2% it's still hot and quite young — part of an experimental cask series more for exploring than for a go-to shelf pour.

Barrel language N. 02 American Oak vs. N. 01 Base Rum. The first thing you notice is that the 6 additional months in the new-make oak barrel have darkened the color by 7 levels. Nose: appears much riper and rounder, significantly less alcoholic spiciness, the new cask has added a lot of vanilla and a pleasant sweetness. Honey or maple syrup. It also enhances the banana. Sour, spicy tones recede into the background, soft, caramelly tones come to the fore. A total win. 7,8 Palate: full-bodied, sweetish with a strong spicy-woody boost at the beginning. Here too, the originally young, alcoholic character is softened and rounded by the oak barrel. The coarse, bitter citrus fruit notes change a little into woody, nutty bitter notes. Some cassis is added, which is accompanied by dark chocolate and nutmeg. Nice oak barrel influence. 7,6

Beste heut. Habe ich von Michael bekommen, was soll ich sagen. Überzeugt mich nicht wirklich die hoh%ige Fasssprache, leider. Holz jedenfalls erkennbar, außerdem auch etwas Würze, aber das gewsisse etwas fehlt hier. Ganz ok, das wars.

Absolutely great project. I only learned about it through the Rum X action. A lot of fun to explore. The YT videos are also mega informative. Good choice of base product, good alcohol integration. American: classic 6.3 German: spicy-woody 6.6 French: velvety-oily 7.3 Kiri: surprise 7.4 Mizunara: good complexity 7 Walnut: little influence 6 Chestnut: not so distinctive 6 Mulberry: iodine/smoky 6.2 Cherry: dense 6.8 Pear: normal 6 Ash: orange 6.1 Tokaji: sawdust Caucasian: woody, fruity, fresh 6.4 Carpatian: European Bourbon 7.4 Acacia: multilayered 7 A somewhat longer maturation would have been even better to bring out the nuances more. But you have to manage that first. Overall, already remarkable differences show how it has developed. Hats off for the project, very fun and interesting.

Wagemut Cask Language Project (Cask Strength) It is to be expected that for such a project the best possible rum is not used. The base rum is comparatively spirituous without special features. 1st Flight: Base Rum / all Oaks Interesting how much the differences are between individual oak types. Mizunara surprised me especially. 2nd Flight: Base Rum / Special Woods Insanely different, everything from bad to good was included. Many thanks for this interesting project.

Daring cask language, 16 times the same base rum aged in barrels each made from different wood. Very interesting project (thanks to Flo for sharing). Less fruity on the nose than the base rum. Instead more caramel and vanilla. Similar on the palate, more sweetness and caramel, plus nutty notes. Overall better and softer.

Ein auffallend Vanillin-holziger, aber dennoch gut ausbalancierter Rum. Der Einfluss der amerikanischen Eiche mildert die spritzige Rohheit des Basis-Rums und fügt zarte Süße sowie warme Gewürztiefe hinzu. Für mich ist dieser Rum ein überzeugendes Beispiel dafür, wie gezielte Fassreife aromatische Tiefe und Genusswert unter Einbezug kraftvoller Alkoholstärke harmonisch kombiniert.
