Barrel language No. 06 Tokaji Oak vs. No. 01 Base Rum. The 6 additional months in the small new-make oak barrel from the Hungarian Tokaj region have darkened the color by 9 levels. Nose: you notice the more intense aging in the small wooden barrel, lots of maple syrup sweetness and vanilla, also a nice, sweet tobacco note and sweet licorice behind. Light lemon with passion fruit and apricot plus something unusual towards violet. Quite different from the base, riper, rounder, sweeter, more interesting. So far the most intense. 7.7 Palate: strong spicy-woody. Feels fuller than the base, hardly peppery, but also bitter with nutmeg at the start. Goes more into nuttiness, strong pecan nut and gets a chocolatey texture with some mocha. Slightly smoky. The fruit goes more towards apricot than lime and green apple. Very good barrel influence. 7.7

Wagemut Cask Language Project (Cask Strength) It is to be expected that for such a project the best possible rum is not used. The base rum is comparatively spiritous without special characteristics. 1st Flight: Base Rum / all Oaks Interesting how much the differences are between individual oak types. Mizunara surprised me especially. 2nd Flight: Base Rum / Special Woods Insanely different, everything from bad to good was there. Many thanks for this interesting project.

Absolutely great project. I only learned about it through the Rum X action. A lot of fun to explore. The YT videos are also mega informative. Good choice of base product, good alcohol integration. American: classic 6.3 German: spicy-woody 6.6 French: velvety-oily 7.3 Kiri: surprise 7.4 Mizunara: good complexity 7 Walnut: little influence 6 Chestnut: not so distinctive 6 Mulberry: iodine/smoky 6.2 Cherry: dense 6.8 Pear: normal 6 Ash: orange 6.1 Tokaji: sawdust Caucasian: woody, fruity, fresh 6.4 Carpatian: European Bourbon 7.4 Acacia: multilayered 7 A somewhat longer maturation would have been even better to bring out the nuances more. But you have to manage that first. Overall, there are already considerable differences showing how it has developed. Hats off for the project, very fun and interesting.

Daring barrel language, 16 times the same base rum aged in barrels each made from different wood. Very interesting project (thanks to Flo for sharing). Less fruity than No. 3 to 5. More on the spicy side, but again less than No. 2.

A refined and elegant rum that gains a particularly fine and exotic spice from the Tokaji oak. The combination of honeyed sweetness and oriental-spicy depth makes it an outstanding product of the cask language series - especially suitable for purists who combine aromatic depth with subtle luxury.
