The extra six months in a fresh pear-wood cask push maple-syrup sweetness, blood orange and apricot over the fairly plain base rum, with vanilla and a salty-licorice tip on the palate. At 61.4% it's part tasting exercise, part rum: the fun is comparing what the wood did.

Cask language No. 10 Pear vs. No. 01 Base Rum. The 6 additional months in the new-make pear cask have darkened the color by a whole 11 levels. Nose: much more complex and round than the base. Intensely fruity-spicy and pleasantly woody. No longer so pronounced alcoholic, limey and rough caramel. Rather, I find a dense maple syrup sweetness with blood orange, apricot and some blackberry. Behind that, vanilla. I like it very much. 8.0 Palate: drastic transformation. Much sweeter, much rounder, much more compact. Sweetness of honey and burnt sugar. Spicy-fruity with a nice salty-licorice tip before oily-sweet tonka bean, apricot, currant and brioche dominate. The base is almost unrecognizable. But very tasty. 8.0.

Wagemut Cask Language Project (Cask Strength). It is to be expected that for such a project the best possible rum is not used. The base rum is comparatively spirited without special character. 1st flight: Base rum / all oaks. Interesting how much the differences are between individual oak types. Mizunara surprised me especially. 2nd flight: Base rum / special woods. Insanely different, everything from bad to good was there. Many thanks for this interesting project.

Wagemut barrel language, 16 times the same base rum aged in barrels each made from different wood. Very interesting project (thanks to Flo for sharing). I like the nose, still citrus fruits, but more towards orange.

Absolutely great project. I only learned about it through the Rum X action. It's a lot of fun to explore. The YouTube videos are also mega informative. Good choice of base product, good alcohol integration. American: classic 6.3 German: spicy-woody 6.6 French: velvety-oily 7.3 Kiri: surprise 7.4 Mizunara: good complexity 7 Walnut: little influence 6 Chestnut: not so distinctive 6 Mulberry: iodine/smoky 6.2 Cherry: dense 6.8 Pear: normal 6 Ash: orange 6.1 Tokaji: sawdust Caucasian: woody, fruity, fresh 6.4 Carpatian: European Bourbon 7.4 Acacia: multilayered 7 A somewhat longer maturation would have been even better to bring out the nuances more. But that has to be managed first. Overall, there are already remarkable differences in how it developed. Hats off for the project, very fun and interesting.

This rum is a fascinating outlier in the Fasssprache line - fine, elegant, rarely fruity. The pear wood unfolds a very harmonious, fruity-sweet depth without sliding into the direction of seductive sugar bombs. A noble, unusual variant for connoisseurs who appreciate gentle fruity notes with a fine wood imprint.
