Anyone who likes Fiji pot-still funk will find a lot to chew on here. The nose is the star: banana, marshmallow, candy floss and tropical fruit, with the vegetal, almost Jamaican funk several tasters compared to Smith & Cross. The palate turns punchy and peppery at 54.5%, with vanilla, marzipan and oak spice. One reviewer flagged a heavy iodine note, so it's not for everyone.

Lots of its aromas. Quite technical, banana, molasses. I would like that. Gentle vanilla taste with banana, esters, and molasses. Very nice finish with vanilla, marzipan, molasses, and fruity brandy. A well-done piece.

Then there was the second to last one from the 24 days of Rum advent calendar. The first sip was absolutely unconvincing, but it got better with some time. Very fruity on the nose and palate, and somehow very creamy on the palate as well.

Shows a lot of power without losing balance. Ripe banana, tropical fruits, spices, and bold oak create an intense, aromatic profile. The high alcohol is relatively well integrated. A characterful Navy Rum for the price category.

Tasting 05.07.2026 RX 18666 Cargo Cult. Navy Strength. Christmas calendar rum 2025. Nose: Tropical fruit, papaya and banana. Palate: Fruit bomb of overripe fruit like papaya and banana. Lightly spiced, caramel chocolate, vanilla and marzipan. The glass: Light oak and nice sweetness.

This rum was also in the Advent calendar. Finally one with over 40 percent. The nose is immediately very fruity. On the palate, tropical fruits like bananas are clearly noticeable as well.

Bought this on reading the FatRumPirate review. It didn’t disappoint and I’m actually surprised it isn’t rated higher on here. Certainly the price to value ratio is excellent. The nose is has some of the Fijian funk I experienced with the MoM Fijian but it is less buttery and more like marshmallows and candy floss. It also has some lovely fruity notes - peaches and tropical fruits. The palate keeps many of the flavours but isn’t as sweet as expected. It has a heat and spice up front which is followed by some gentle sweetness and fruity flavours. The finish brings wood spice and vanilla. For me I’m going 8.6 based on its winning nose.

The nose is crazy intense. It's Pot still fiji undeniably but there something more to it. It's more mellow, sweet, it reminds me of cotton candy. I really enjoy it neat, but it will shine in cocktails. I suspect added sugar since it's not specified there's no additive on the label/website but for the price and the flavour it delivers, I don't care. Good job Sydney rum distillery!

24 Days of Rum 2024 - Black Edition - Day 19 First impression: wow, extremely fruity and smooth, vanilla Nose: strawberry, vanilla, fruits, sweet and very aromatic Palate: the 54.5% ABV hits first, then wonderfully rounded flavors of fruits, vanilla, wood, pastry, and roasted notes follow Finish: the high ABV gives a long finish, which also develops into chocolate Overall impression: really exciting due to the contrast between nose and palate, could easily be a Jamaican rum. Wonderful for sipping neat and for mixers. I like the nose (as almost always) better than the palate

The one that stands out of the 24 days of rum 2024 sample calendar is this Cargo Cult Navy Strength Rum. It features very intricate nose full of floral/vegetal notes highlighted with a touch of fruity sweetness such as banana. Palate is punchy, vibrant and spicy as hell. It reminds me of Smith & Cross very much due to its peppery taste. Other than that you get a mouthful of banana, marzipan and creamy vanila notes. Finish is medium long with fruity taste, such as strawberry. The best part of this rum for me is the nose which is almost as funky as any other Jamaican rum.

Sharp vanilla then a bunch of oak hits you. The initial sugary vanilla is like a McDonald's ice cream cone. Custard, Boston cream. Some pepper in the finish, plenty of booze. Maybe banana. Golden pour. 24 Days of Rum #19
