Anyone easing into Martinique agricole will find this an easy landing spot. It's a classic aged Bally: woody and spicy up front, with dried figs, raisins, vanilla and a light earthy, grassy edge underneath. Several tasters call it well-balanced and gourmand but a touch short and simple. A few note it drinks better after the bottle's been open a while.

Good rum at a reasonable price and nice bottle, sweet, on caramel, coffee, empyreumatic, not very long nor rich but very pleasant and easy. Blind edit Advent 2024: different from my bottle (which I prefer). Nose and palate on ripe fruit, spices appear on the palate and take over in the length. It reminded me of a Marsolle merisier. Still as soft and pleasant, easy and not very complex but very enjoyable. Rather 7.5 for this Advent sample. Retasted on my bottle, still 8.5, with an additional slight impression of cherry on the palate. Definitely either the Advent samples or the vintages change the game.

25.09.2026 - 28.09.2026 Attending the Whisky Live in Paris 2026 with a few good friends. We had a great time and it was nice to introduce them to this event which was a first for them. ------- RETASTING ------- A very nice rum despite it being as young as it is. Typical Agricole again with the vegetal notes, fruity and lovely spices. There is a hint of chocolate which is clearer once the glass has been standing for an hour after emptying. Price to quality is very good.

Tasted at the Kirsch Cruise 2024. For me, a rather weaker one from the Bally line. It was nice to be able to try it, but unfortunately it didn't convince me. There are far better ones I've had in my glass so far. For me it's more of an "entry-level rum"

8,1:On the nose, sugarcane, fresh with tea, herbaceous, roasted wood notes with caramel, spicy with anise, pepper, citrus fruits like orange, dried fruits, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, dried figs, raisins are out, the cane is minty, flowery, cinammon and leather join. 7,9:On the palate, the attack is fresh, dry with flowery, herbaceous, grassy, thick sugar cane, sweet with honeycomb, slightly mineral, earthy and minty, then metallic and medicinal, fruity with citrus and dried fruits like raisins, dates, later yellow fruits and hints of banana, some candied, as the wood is roasted with caramel, nuts, spicy with cinnamon, vanilla, pepper, anise. 7,7:The finish is medium long, dry, with flowery, mineral sugarcane, earthy, herbaceous, sweet with honey, fruity with dried, citrus and tropical fruits, as the wood is spicy with pepper, cinnamon..

Update: After having had this bottle open for about a year and tasting it again I’m astonished to find that it is far better now than when freshly opened. Basically I get it now, it’s really quite good for the age and it’s amazing how the taste changes for the better in an open bottle. There seems to be an incredible development potential in the rums from this brand. I think Bally rums need a tremendous amount of age on them to really come into their own. When fresh from breaking the seal there’s a clayish dry quality to the taste that is just disagreeable but give it some months open and it matures beautifully.

A good agricultural rum with lovely fruity notes despite its youth. Having tasted it several times over several months, I also think it reveals its best notes after a few days' opening. A pleasant surprise.

Then there's the J. Bally Pyramid to round off the day. A typical brown Agricole. Very woody and spicy on the nose and palate. Vanilla is also present, of course. I can also detect some nutty notes on the palate.

A rum from the classic J. Bally range that has a lot to offer. The nose offers a skilful blend of herbal, floral and grassy notes, combined with spicy, vanilla and leather aromas, all rounded out by dried and tropical fruit flavors. The whole is well-balanced and pleasant on the nose. On the palate, we find the spicy, vegetal character typical of the house, with nuts, earthy notes and dried fruit. The whole is easy to drink, quite rich and greedy. The finish is longer than it appears, with hints of exotic fruit that blend perfectly with the slightly earthy, caramelized agricultural profile. A good entry-level rum for neophytes wishing to approach more complex rums. The quality/price ratio is also very good, with aromas and flavors that live up to expectations.

Holz, Vanille, Trockenfrüchte und feine Gewürze sind harmonisch eingebunden, ohne den typischen Zuckerrohrcharakter zu überdecken. Er wirkt ausgewogen und elegant und entwickelt sich mit etwas Zeit im Glas weiter. Ein gelungener Agricole für Einsteiger wie auch für erfahrene Genießer.

08/03/2026: Brussels Rhum Festival @ Tour & Taxis. First dram of the day and a very nice one to start. Pleasantly surprised by this 7yo core range release from J.Bally. Dryer compared to the Art Deco #1. Price to quality ratio is very good. Recommended for beginners but also nice for more advanced drinkers.

Discovered at the Limoges Spirits Festival 2025. 👃 Typical Bally nose, on a spicy and damp wood. Dried fruits, orange, spice combo (vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, pimento), soft caramel, slight herbal and agricultural vegetal side. Simple but effective. 😋 The wood first, vanilla, spicy, quite damp, earthy and caramelized like a cough medicine. Some dried fruits (dates?) and the wood contribution. Note of wet walnut with chili. ⛳ Bitter and rather dry wood, you detect the agricultural side (earthy and herbal), dried fruit honey, spices still, light caramel. 💡This 7 year is interesting in its category of a straight and typical Martinique agricole. Between a J.M VSOP and a Saint James XO.

Second of the evening. Big surprise for the caramel side of the nose! A cousin of ron, perhaps 😅 Very nutty on the palate, too much for me. It's a good rum but I wasn't thrilled.

The Bally 7 years rum is a good agricole rum. The moderately expressive nose is dominated by woody and fruity notes. On the palate, it expresses itself more clearly with nice woody and spicy notes with a slight medicinal side. The finish, medium, follows the same line with a dominant woody and spicy character.

Quite good. A pleasant nose and very well-integrated alcohol. Nice complexity on the palate, with medium length. Honeyed and herbaceous. Spices and wood, quite well balanced. It's been a year and a half since I opened the bottle and I find it much better today than the day I opened it. A fine improvement on this "classic" juice, which has a lot to offer with patience.

A very nice bottle that makes an impression when you offer it to friends... a good rum... classic but well balanced. Classic because you find aromas of vanilla and caramel. It's indulgent without being sweet... it's good... and yet... I get a bit bored. Maybe a good rum to drink rather than to taste.

(ouverture de bouteille juste avant, à redécouvrir je pense) Nez : assez végétal, herbacé et boisé, un peu floral également (mais je ne sais pas dire quelle fleur) Bouche : j'ai étrangement un côté fumé, tabac qui ressort. Boisé bien entendu mais pas forcément la canne pur comme on pourrait l'attendre d'un agricole (typique des Bally? Premier que je déguste) Finale : boisé, terreux, herbacé assez moyenne. Dégustation un peu mitigée, Je pense que je dois le redéguster plus tard. Il ne degage pas de grands arômes et je ne retrouve pas beaucoup la marque des agricoles martiniquais.

Bally Pyramid 7 years – 45% Change of ocean, heading to Martinique! Let's remember that 7 years equals an XO or Hors d’âge in rum. Nose: round, soft, discreet wood wrapped in vanilla. Palate: indulgent, easy to drink, the wood remains integrated and accompanied by a light fruitiness. Despite a lack of length, it represents good value for money.
