Coffee, dark chocolate and caramel lead here, over an aged, dusty oak that a few tasters guessed came from old sherry casks. This 18-year Dominican cane-juice rum is drier and woodier than its younger siblings, with spice and a licorice-and-wood finish. Opinions swing hard: one member called it the pick of his tasting night, another hit a bitter off-note he couldn't get past.

At first a bit sharp on the nose, then sweeter. On the palate rather mild, with coffee, coconut & caramel sweetness. Towards the end more woody & sharp, overall rather unbalanced. Not quite my thing, at best with cake or similar.

With this bottling from Louis Santo, you can definitely notice a clear difference compared to the other bottlings, less sweet, lots of spice and woody notes, everything rather darker. It's definitely not bad, but I would prefer the 12-year-old over this one.

Nose nice, sugarcane rum, tongue agricole, spicy, but also here (like with the 12 year) some off or bitter note, a pity, but this line doesn't appeal to me at all

Nose: Fruit and caramel. Taste: initially spicy-chocolatey and coffee. Then you can also taste caramel. I also perceive a fruit note that I can't specify further. Tastes quite good but I don't need it again. For the price asked, you can get much better.

Intensely spicy. Pleasantly sweetish in smell. In taste honey, peppery with fruits. In the finish dry with wood and licorice. Very pleasant. The best of the tasting evening. Maybe really a hidden gem.

A sweet representative for the transition from beginner to advanced, On the nose, notes of vanilla, raisins, cocoa, and chocolate. On the palate, notes of chocolate, coffee, raisins, caramel, and vanilla.

A round and easy-drinking rum that despite its low alcohol strength offers a full-bodied chocolate drinking experience, but loses its fruitiness in the mouth after the start. Due to the somewhat dusty and antique-looking oak, I can well imagine that old sherry casks were also used in the base maturation. Would love to try this rum at cask strength!
