The parallels to TDL are particularly exciting here. Delicious bottling with peach, black tea and mint. Blind, I wouldn't really have guessed Ten Cane here. Very nice bottling from Rum Club Berlin.

Reminds me strongly of a T.D.L from the nose and also in taste. I don't really have a reference from the same vintage. The only one I can compare it to is one from 2012. These are completely different. What both have in common is the poorly integrated alcohol. With a few drops of water it gets more pleasant, but still doesn't fully convince me.

I have The Duchess in my glass alongside the new Rumclub Ten Cane from 2008. My first impression is that the two rums form the poles of the spectrum of the 2008 Vintage's profile. The Duchess is super dark in the glass, bringing a deep berry flavor and dark spices. The Rumclub is much lighter - a few shades lighter in color. Aromatically, this Ten Cane is closer to some TDLs: peach, almond, ginger. There are also similarities, but I find it difficult to describe them - most likely in the woodiness, the spiciness - a rather opposing Trinidad style? The differences outweigh the differences for me. I would always consider the Rumclub to be a TDL - I even find the characteristic mint. But the agricole notes of the Duchess are missing. I'm not sure if I'm completely off the mark here, but this smells like a TDL. I can't get off this horse: Peach mint iced tea in the mouth. The finish is long, smooth and full of peach menthol. Well ok, I think it's clear what I'm trying to say. At the end of this review, I no longer believe that these are two poles of a vintage, but two completely different distilleries. The rum is still very tasty. Roughly on a par with the 2009 TDLs. I poured myself an old sample of an RdL Ten Canes and the new 2008 Swell TDL. The similarities to the TDL are very great here, the differences to the RdL Ten Cane not so pronounced. This calls for a second round, preferably blind.

Ten Cane in richtig lecker - und aussergewöhnlich. Liegt auch daran, dass hier viel TDL-typische Aromatik im Spiel ist. An der Nase flankiert die Minzaromatik noch eine verführerische gebrannte Zimtzuckernote, die bereits sehr verheißungsvoll ist. Am Gaumen tritt erstere dann deutlich in den Vordergrund, Minz-Menthol spielt gross auf, wird aber wunderbar von vanilliger Süsse und frischer Fruchtaromatik umspielt. Tolle Auswahl, ein exquisiter und trotz der Intensität sehr süffiger Ten Cane auf Spitzenniveau.

#4578 26-27.01.2024 Hanse Spirit This is a very good release, wow, heavy flavour profile and I like it. Nose Medium intense, wood, roasted, light smoke, fruity, light caramel, herbs, lightly sweet. Palate Oily, intense, balanced, wood, tannins, fruit, natural sweetness, dry, light mint. Finish Long, wood, light roasted, tannins, dry, light mint, raisin.

Blind Tasting 01.02.2024, 7th rum Nose: first smoky, then minty Palate: menthol, fresh, spreading widely in the mouth, close to bitterness, some cannabis, light bite Finish: very strong, long Conclusion: The last and best rum of the tasting. Yes, I could somehow taste Trinidad, but the rum was not minty enough for a T.D.L. and not dirty enough for a Caroni. I was at a bit of a loss. As the last rum of the blind tasting, it only had a little breathing time in the glass and probably didn't get my full attention. I really must try it again in peace.

On the nose, the fruit bread that I have also detected in some other 2008 Ten Canes, as well as roasted notes, butterscotch, red currants (acidity). Dry on the palate, smoky, dried fruit, espresso, tannins. I like the RumClub, even if I found the two Duchess bottlings a little more complex.

I admit: I'm a Ten Cane fanboy 😉 I particularly like the previous bottlings of the 2008 vintage and this one is no exception. But where has the typical sour cherry gone? I picked out 3 other 2008 Ten Canes for comparison and they all have that great sour cherry note - the Rumclub doesn't! I have also never experienced a Ten Cane with well-integrated alcohol. Unfortunately, this one is no exception. But: with a dash of water it's better and the alcohol is no longer so biting. All in all, still very good!

Upon opening, a fresh minty note immediately hits you... and it stays that way for the time being... some smoke and wood also join in later. The palate is very intense with menthol, spices, wood, dark chocolate and espresso. The alcohol is not perfectly integrated and needs to be tamed. The finish is also characterized by menthol and dark spice. If this bottling had also had the dark red fruits, it would have been perfect. The longer it lingers in the glass, the better it gets.

Tried and immediately bought at HanseSpirit 2024 because... it is something special. I hadn't found Ten Cane particularly interesting before. And the distillery wasn't around for long. This one is absolutely interesting, especially for what it is! Nose: a fine smoky note wafts towards you right at the start. Now that's interesting. But then an intense fruitiness is immediately present, with plenty of caramel and beeswax. The fruit is somewhere between redcurrant and mirabelle plum. And again and again this beautiful, fine smoke, cigar smoke. It is also pleasantly woody. When I smell it more deeply, I find something green, like coriander, 8.8 Palate: yes, madness, no TDL and yet clearly Trinidad. A slight cigar-smoke note here too. But then, at first softly and increasingly strongly, sweetish, fresh mint! That sets the tone. But I also find licorice next to it. The two go well together, mint and licorice. The distinct moisture has something plummy about it. Salty and a little peppery with a slight hint of clove add a nice twist. I really like it. 8.9 Is it really made from sugar cane juice and not molasses? Never mind. Probably the best Ten Cane, who knows...

In der Nase kommt er reichlich verstopft und verkohlt daher als hätte der Schornsteinfeger gerade leider Urlaub... Am Gaumen haben wir dann Pfirsich, Rosine, Minze, eine hohe Intensität. Das schmeckt tatsächlich verdammt wie ein TDL und erinnert tatsächlich weniger an einen Ten Cane. Aber da sich das nie zweifelsfrei sagen lässt sag ich nur zwei Worte: Toller Rum.

Ein überragender Ten Cane. Eher untypisch mit viel weniger Minze und Agricole Noten als sonst. Absolut rund mit top eingebundenem Alkohol. Sehr fruchtig mit Honig und dunkler Schokolade und Rosine. Im Abgang sehr trocken mit Rosine. Mit dem PLV für mich absolut überraschend in der Spitzenklasse.

Gentle nose on mixed dark/red fruits, slightly smoky with an unusual medicinal note. On the palate a it gets very similar to a TDL with fresh menthol/minty notes, more citrussy fruits and an intense dryness. Alcohol could be better integrated. Medium finish consistent with the palate.

The rum club from Berlin delivers again. The key data moisten my mouth even before the woody, oily distillate has a chance to enter it. Tannic, dark fruits, mint. The long finish remains on the minty side.

On the nose, besides the fruit and wood, a pleasant nutty note comes through. Here I would still suspect it is a molasses rum. On the palate then a pleasant sweetness with some fruit and wood. The nuttiness is still somewhat present here. In the end, the typical Agricole notes come through. I already like it.

The rum totally surprised me on the palate! At first you are overcome by a pleasant sweetness that is also present at first, then you taste a bouquet of fruit notes, dark chocolate and then it suddenly becomes a little darker, a little wood, a very slight bitterness is paired with it and then a pleasant menthol note remains in the finish. I think it's another successful bottling. I've never experienced this initial sweetness from a Trinidad rum before. Makes the whole thing even more exciting for me.

I'm really struggling to find a Ten Cane here. Aromatically there are almost only TDL aromas like mint, yellow fruits and partly smoky notes, plus overall rather molasses-like sweetness. Definitely tasty but I strongly doubt Ten Cane especially compared to 3 other 2008 Ten Canes... I guess this is TDL. The intense mint note is so dominant in the finish that in my opinion it must be a TDL.

3x Ten Cane 2008 by RumClub, Romdeluxe and Distilia. While Distilia and RD are quite similar, the RC is noticably more vibrant. The first two provide wood, some roasted notes, apples (fresh and backed), Christmas spices and some leathery notes. The RC in contrast adds fresh mint and yellow fruits to the mix, which remind me rather of TDLs rather than what I had as Ten Cane so far. Crown goes to the RC in the line-up. On the palate, again, RdL and Distilia are rather close. Distilia delivers even stronger on the woody and leathery notes with some cacao/dar chocolate as a kicker. RDL comes with similar notes, but more fruits and openness. Both nice. While I prefer the darker profile of the Distilia. For the RC, I get more TDL vibes on the palate as well. Are we absolutely sure this is a TC and not TDL? 😅 I get mint and a different set of fruits (more peach than cherries) and miss the „sugar cane feel“ which the other two deliver. Interestingly different indeed. On the palate I also prefer the RC in the line-up.

A sweet, herbaceous nose with caramel, cedar wood, smoke and menthol. A complex nose that makes you want to linger. The palate is lively, well marked by menthol and herbaceousness, followed by dried fruit and cedar wood. A little spiciness, not very pleasant, develops on the finish - a pity! But at the very end, the aromas take over and create a long finish.

Ten Cane, for me still a rollercoaster of emotions or rather quality! Definitely a typical rum from Trinidad, somewhere between Caroni and TDL. Very roasted, dark, with a mint like for example the 2001 RA TDL. I might not have expected Ten Cane in the glass here, but this distillery was somehow also too short-lived in operation to really distinguish its own style from the other distilleries of this country. A great bottling that stands out from many others of this distillery! Great cask selection, compliments to the guys from Berlin and nice to have something like this in the glass!

An awesome combo of mandarin and eucalyptus that already smells extremely fun. The whole comes across roasted to smoky. The toothpaste taste with gum reminds me a bit of The Beast 1 and anyone who knows me knows what a compliment that is. In the finish the mandarin turns more to lemon. All in all the rum is a lot of fun and it dances on the tongue with its intensity. The intensity makes the rum sometimes seem a bit sharp, which makes it less suitable for beginners.

No matter whether this cask was filled exclusively with Ten Cane or also had a good splash of T.D.L, what matters is the enjoyment experience and I find it very good here. The aromas in the mouth jump in zig-zag and cover the entire spectrum from fruity to woody with force and in an appealing variety. The subtle dirtiness that comes in the pronounced finish in the late aftertaste rounds off the whole package successfully and awakens interesting memories of an antiseptic tar cream I once had to use in my youth.

Oh wow! After the first two disappointments of my little Trinidad tasting today, fun finally kicks in. Nicely dense on the nose, sweet and minty on the palate, a bit of peach and just the right amount of wood. Alcohol not perfectly integrated, but still okay. Definitely worth its price.

Ein sehr leckerer Tropfen. Minznoten, Holz und dunkle Früchte in der Nase. Am Gaumen sehr komplex und reichhaltig. Minze, dazu leicht Vanille und sogar ein wenig Rauch. Er braucht definitiv etwas Zeit im Glas und es gibt sehr viel zu entdecken.

I like that very, very much. Very tasty. At first I was annoyed to have bought two bottles straight away... but a lot is right here. Nicely smoky in the nose and on the palate. Almost slight Caroni associations in the finish. Nice fruity notes and light citrus and mint notes. Noticeable alcohol but fully in line and not disturbing. Can be a little rougher at times. Exactly to my taste. Not a typical Ten Cane and in this case that's a good thing. Top.

The first time consciously in Trinidad today with this rum. The smell is complex, balanced between fruit, spice, mint/menthol, wood, caramel. Flavor-wise basically the same but much more intense.

Eher ungewöhnlicher Ten Cane. Erinnert stärker an einen T.D.L, da typischen Ten Cane Geschmacksnoten stark unterrepräsentiert sind. Dafür Minze, Schwarztee, Menthol. Alkohol ist aber wie so oft bei Gen Cane nicht sonderlich gut integriert.

Spices, a nice maturity, overall a very pleasant, though somewhat interchangeable profile. Alcohol integration is not great, but still okay. The relatively short finish is a clear drawback. Overall a really good but not outstanding rum, without the typical Ten Cane markers.

Degustační kalendář Pavla Špačka vol. 4. Intenzivní komplexní nos, který bych spíše než na ten cane tipoval na T.D.L. kde jsou přidané pro mě neobvyklé kouřové tóny. V chuti se jedná o velmi těžký a komplexní kousek. Čaj, máta, broskej a kouř.

A very complex rum that is particularly fruity, but also has a lot of smoke and roasted aromas. The development in the glass is particularly enjoyable if you give it the opportunity to breathe for 10-20 minutes. Nothing for in between.

Another day another sample from Trinidad..here we go: The nose - sweet caramel or fruity (lemon, currents) with wooden tones, The color - like honey - dark yellow light brown. The taste - of course minty and mentol tones, I have to write complex - ever sip is little bit different - once I feel more fruity tones and warmth of alcohol, then I feel more wooden and little bit of medicine tones. The aftertaste is long and I feel the taste on my tongue after the sample is gone..

One of the better Ten Canes. Some wood, spicy, green cuttings. Alcohol reasonably well integrated. Medium-long finish. If you like the Ten Cane profile, this is a good fit. Personally, I find the profile rather boring.
