A year in Madeira lays cherry, dried fruit and old port over the Poisson spirit, with wood, spice and a touch of licorice underneath. At nearly 62% it's warm but the alcohol mostly sits well; a few drops of water make it creamier. Several tasters wish the grassy sugarcane came through more.

02.03.2024 Retasting at the whiskymessen and I stick to my score. ------------------ #4597 26-27.01.2024 Tried this rum several times at the event because it's so nice and mellow and an atypical Agricole and especially from Pere Labat. A lovely and mellow rum and I ordered two bottles ☺️ Nose Elegant and fine, light wood and roasted notes, light, fruits, light caramel. Palate Oily, elegant, wood, light roasted, fruity, natural sweetness, faint Agricole notes. Finish Medium to long, wood, elegant, cherry, light herbs.

Seriously? The finish (?) completely flattens the distillate. Sweet, sticky, a weird herbal undertone and then just sweet again. The alcohol is very poorly integrated. I can't understand the many good reviews. This stuff simply tastes like highly spiked sweet wine.

Very dominant Madeira finish, which makes the rum very drinkable and produces beautiful dark, intense notes. Clearly not a complexity monster, but simply round and delicious - despite the strength of over 60%. I'll keep an eye out for a bottle here. ☺️🥃

Naja, woher dieser Rum die guten Bewertungen verschließt sich mir ein wenig. Meines Erachtens macht hier das Finish mal wieder alles kaputt. Erinnert mich ein wenig an diese Eigenabfüllung von RumParadies. Ich schmecke von dem Grundstoff sehr wenig. Hinzu kommt so eine komisch Kräuter/Mentholnote die irgendwo in Madeirawein endet mit einer unangenehmen Säure. Mal so gar nicht mein Geschmack. Gut, aber nicht gut genug für meinen Gaumen, zu medizinisch. Edit: Nochmal in Ruhe verkostet, ich bleib dabei, dieser holt mich nicht ab. Im Abgang bzw. Nachklang habe ich nur das säuerliche und bittere trockene Weinfass, nichts was annähernd an einen Rum erinnert

Die Nase eröffnet kräftig alkoholisch und mit reifen Kirschen! Der Alkohol ist schon recht stechend in der Nase aber die Kirschen gefallen mir sehr gut. Erster Eindruck am Gaumen leider auch sehr vom Alkohol geprägt. Dann Kirschen, Mandeln, Würze und Fass. Im Nach kommt noch ein wenig Lakritz dazu. Hmm, der kann mich nicht so richtig überzeugen. Die Kirschnote ist toll aber insgesamt ist er mir zu sprittig und scharf. Wenn im Nachklang die alkoholische Note abebbt ist er mir am angenehmsten. Gerade noch sehr gut.

So today the newest Spalter-Rum ... Yes, you can taste the spectacular Madeira finish in every phase of this rum. And yes, I can understand that this is not to everyone’s liking, some find it too dominant. I belong to the other faction, I like the rum very much, sometimes it can also be something easy-drinking. On the nose I have besides the deep fruity also a subtle smoky note, in the mouth the rum reminds me a bit of the taste of brandy beans. Particularly striking is that despite the 69.1% alcohol you hardly feel it, it is excellently integrated, that’s something you have to manage first.. Conclusion: A rum that is not particularly demanding, but certainly can be shared very well with friends who otherwise have little to do with rum. In this respect, the rum has more the potential to unite than to divide.

What a nose.... Haven't had something so fine in a while... a hint of delicate rose scent, cherry, cherry wood, slight sweetness (vanilla) and old port wine, wonderful. On the palate it spreads creamy and soft, initially brown sugar/caramel followed by sour cherry, red fruits, old port wine and a slight menthol note. I also perceive some allspice and cherry wood. The alcohol carries the aromas warmly and softly and gives a pleasant elegance. The finish reveals another facet... vegetal, fresh and grassy, later again with this sour cherry aroma... I'm really impressed.. a very complex and elegant rum

A wonderful, intense rhum that cheats a little ... tasted at the HanseSpirit 2024, and bought it immediately without thinking twice. Super aromatic and a highlight for me at the fair. Nose: full-bodied, intense, fully aromatic, simply delicious. Creamy and fruity, spicy and woody. It starts with a creamy base note that harmoniously envelops the fruit notes. Amarena cherry, gooseberry and kiwi with a hint of passion fruit. It also has a grapey, vinous aroma that is reminiscent of port wine. So this is where the one year in Madeira barrels comes into play. The 4 years in Cognac barrels beforehand also bring these beautiful fruity notes. Fragrant wood and cherry wood provide a spicy contrast. 9.1 Palate: full-bodied, aromatic, intense and delicious here too. It has a fairly sweet start with maple syrup and brown sugar. Then follows a light, salty spiciness with muted nutmeg and licorice, or even sweet, soft licorice, and lovely but again creamy fruit. Grape, sweet cherry, date and apricot. Very tasty and round. At some point in the finish, the sugar cane and a chamomile note actually come through, it is an Agricole after all. 9.1 A really good Guadeloupe; intense, aromatic and simply delicious, even if it clearly gets its aromas from the Cognac and Madeira barrels and therefore cheats a little in my opinion 😉

Bitter notes, alcohol not well integrated. The best part is the finish. Overall feels like experienced many times before. A mediocre rum made pleasant with a hefty influence of a sweet wine barrel. Boooooring!!!

Great nose. Solvent, very spicy, a bit of cookie dough or macaroons and dried fruits. Round, strong and slightly alcoholic. On the mouth, it packs a punch, those 62% speak. Again very spicy. With a few drops of water it becomes creamier, otherwise it's too strong.😳😳 Warm, nice finish. Spice, cookie dough, dried fruits. Clove and licorice. A Neisson disguised as Demerara. 😎😎😎Super rum! 8,7:On the nose, Madeira and cognac barrel impacts are obvious, dried fruits, cherry and grapes, flowery sugarcane, roasted wood notes like caramel, nuts, sweet, spicy with vanilla, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, sugarcane is vegetal, grassy, herbaceous, allspice joins, medicinal notes, rum is elegant, delicious. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is intense, slightly alcoholic, yet elegant with sweet roasted wood notes like pastry, brown sugar, maple, spicy with nutmeg, allspice, salty, Madeira, cognac barrel impacts are obvious with leather, dried fruits and cherries, sugarcane is earthy, herbaceous. 8,6:The finish is long, dry&tannic, sweet with Madeira barrel impact and notes like macaroons, chocolate, fruity with dried fruits like raisins, dates, cherries, sugarcane is fresh with chamomile, grassy, herbaceous, wood is roasted, spicy. Tasted long time ago - Rate 8.8 21-11-2025 - Rate 8.9 First time tasting this rum was in an all agricole line up. We had until that day, not tasted that much agricole. But this one was a game changer for us all. This is how I like agricole. Nose with wood, spice and dried fruits with a hint of port. Palate is also wood, dried fruits and dates with notes of port. A great agricole and likely in top 3 of what I have tasted so far. Feisty nose, that gives off some fruity and spicy hints after it has had some time in the glass. Plenty notes of fruits and berries, and an aftertaste of sugarcane and a woody taste

Beide Rums wie erwartet sehr fasslastig. Wer darüber hinweg sehen kann, wird an beiden seinen Gefallen finden. Der Sherry ist holzlastiger, bitterer, und der Alkohol ist schlechter eingebunden. Der Madeira ist süßer, aromatischer und gefälliger am Gaumen. Von Guadeloupe ist hier nicht mehr viel übrig, als handwerklich gemachte Dessert-Rums auf jeden Fall geeignet.

I like this Agricole much better already. Cool thing. Very woody and spicy on the nose, port wine is definitely recognizable. On the palate then a slight sweetness (and that at over 60% :-)). But also slightly alcoholic and cherry is well recognizable.

On the nose, little floral but sweet port wine and spice. On the palate then herbal chamomile and mint. I also taste some cherry that carries through to the finish, which unfortunately is shorter than expected. Nice rum but doesn't blow me away.

Spirited nose that emits some fruity and spicy notes after it has been in the glass for some time. Many notes of fruits and berries, and an aftertaste of sugarcane and a woody flavor.

Hm, I’m not quite sure what to make of this. The Velier Poisson 2010 was nicely balanced with the Agricole notes against baked apple/vanilla, but the RdL is quite sweet (confectionery) on the nose, almost reminds me of A.H. Riise, also a bit alcoholic… I feel the same on the palate. This sample is enough for me for now 😅

Nase: Eine schöne Mischung aus gereiftem Agricole und der Würze aus dem Madeira-Fass. Ein wenig kommt auch der Alkohol durch. Gaumen: Er kommt auf den ersten Schluck etwas fassaufgeladen daher, aber das ist hier gar kein Problem. Typische Agricole-Noten und Madeira-Würze harmonieren hier einwandfrei. Aromen von Karamell und roten Früchten mit der typischen Agricole-Grasigkeit im Hintergrund bilden ein fantastisches Ergebnis, das noch lange am Gaumen nachhallt. Mit ein paar Tropfen Wasser wird er noch einmal geschmeidiger. Für die ganz große Kür fehlt ihm ein wenig das Alter und die Reife, aber ich bin sowas von froh, hier direkt eine Flasche mitgenommen zu haben. In der Vergangenheit konnte man (meiner Meinung nach zu Recht) öfter mal über Rom de Luxe und die aufgerufenen Preise schimpfen, aber für die 120€/Flasche Ausgabepreis ist das Ergebnis hier sehr fair und bekommt meine volle Empfehlung!

Sehr schöne, reife Nase mit Agricole-Noten. Am Gaumen überlagert das Madeira-Finish den Grundstoff. Man schmeckt schon leichte grasige Agricole-Noten, aber das Finish ist schon sehr präsent, auch wenn es prinzipiell gut harmoniert.

Very intense Agricole Brett. Nicely spicy, good wood and even a hint of licorice. The alcohol is well integrated. It really unfolds after sipping. Nothing really happens in the mouth/throat. It fits already :-)

The Madeira cask used for finishing has left a clear mark here. The fortified wine dominates the scene from the start with its notes of cherries, raisins or sticky-sweet currants, almonds, and chocolate, while the cask adds a harmonious woody spice with subtle leather notes. However, you really have to look for the Agricole behind it to find the vegetal side with herbs and sugarcane. Really tasty, but a bit overwhelmed by the cask and also a little too sweet for me.

Nase: In der Nase kommt direkt ein starker, floraler und würziger Duft durch. Man erkennt die Herkunft Gaumen: Mein erster Eindruck ist leider kein Guter. Der Rum ist mir bitter und holzig. Man schmeckt den Agricole. Da Agricole leider nicht mein Fall ist, schmeckt er mir nicht allzu gut. Auch nach mehr Zeit ändert sich meine Meinung im Geschmack nicht. Die Nase finde ich allerdings nicht schlecht.

Unfortunately the Madeira finish covers much of the Agricole. I find that a pity because Poisson is quite complex and interesting. But I don't want to say the bottling is bad. Very fruity, some wood, relatively much sweetness. In the finish the Poisson comes through a bit stronger with a salmiak note.

That’s a surprise after the previous poisson. Well balanced, smooth, but more complex with nice a nougat flavor and a decent sweetness. Earthy and grassy finish, a very nice sipper, warm, relaxing and enjoyable.

Relativ dominantes Finish, dass den Grundcharakter des Rums zwar ganz gut ergänzt, jedoch merklich Komplexität kostet. Schön entspannt zu trinken, aber kein Rum für höchste Ansprüche. Bin aber zugegebenermaßen auch kein großer Fan von „Beeren-Finishes“ aller Art.

On the nose more like sweet wine, port wine and/or Armagnac than Rhum Agricole. Also on the palate it is quite sweet (wine-like) which unfortunately covers its original character. With water it gets even sweeter. Unfortunately not my thing.
