TBRC Diamond Distillery (Savalle Still) SVL 2003
Most tasters land in the same happy place: a fruit-forward Diamond with plum, raisin and blackberry up front, then dark chocolate, espresso and leather underneath. One member called it "viel zu süffig" — too easy to empty. The mild split is on the finish: a few find it drying, tannic, even a smoky curry-leaf note, others just call it rich and chewy. Batch #4 gets more love than #2.

The bottlekill and the tasting note. A rum that I've always drunk on the side but never really focused on. The nose is typical of a rather young Guyana Column Still - from the batch it is quite similar to the SBS SVL. Like the latter, it has a sweet, fruity nose with some artificial strawberry aromas. The nose is very fruity, but also not very complex. Beyond the berries and raisins there is not much more. Reminiscent of jogurette with a slight hint of chocolate. In the mouth it is super soft at first. The fruit takes a back seat to the spices, especially black pepper. The fruit is drier and no longer as juicy as on the nose. Irritating is a smoky curry leaf aroma, which is still very present in the finish and which I know more from high ester Jamaicans. The finish is surprisingly bitter, with heavy tannins providing astringency. A rum for genre fans, I would say, without standing out from the mass of 2003s - at most due to the super PLV.

Crosstasted with batch #2 from TBRC. This is a whole class better. Much more complex, aromatic and with more depth and, above all, clear fruit aromas of the red kind. It's really fun

Direct comparison of the two TBRC Diamond Savalle SVL bottlings of batches #2 (19 yo / rx18179 and #4 / 18760) Both are nice and dark in color but not too malty due to the coloration. The nose of batch #2 is nice and dark but a bit reserved (but gets better after a while and coconut is added) and great fruity notes in batch #4. On the palate, nice dried fruit in batch #4 and a bit more bitter, malty but also drier in batch #2. Both are good, but my preference clearly goes to batch #4

Very fruity on the nose, especially raisin with some blackberry. The mouthfeel is somewhat wine-like. The smell can also be found in the taste, with slightly more chocolate notes. Very tasty rum! I think I need to drink more Diamond

Very interesting Diamond. Almost exclusively aromas of dried fruit (plum, raisin) on the nose. The taste is a rather dry rum with a medium finish. For me, the alcohol is very well integrated.

I really like it on the nose. I find a nice fruitiness and slightly vinous aromas here. On the palate too. Quite fruity, balanced, round. The alcohol is well integrated and doesn't interfere, it's really easy to drink. The finish is short to medium-long and quite unspectacular. For me, the bottom line is that it's a pretty nice wine that's very easy to drink and doesn't do anything wrong, but doesn't necessarily excite either.

This is the most fruit-scented Guyana I can remember. Unexpected and fun. I haven't studied it to see if it has a finish, but even from the very fruity taste I'd guess it's port or sherry. I'm enjoying this quite a bit, my only complaint would be the truncated finish.

A typically atypical Diamond/Savalle rum. Typical because it has the well-known strong profile, dark chocolate, wood and dried fruit. Atypical because despite this strength it remains fairly balanced and has an almost fresh note. Can only be recommended!

The only thing you could fault it for: way too easy-drinking, gone way too fast. Baked-in plum jam, dried fruit, espresso, dark chocolate. The Savalle still is definitely somewhat overshadowed by its more famous Guyana sisters, but precisely the enormous fruitiness and almost dessert-like sweetness and creaminess on the tongue is just wow. If you prefer licking pencil shavings or like Kfm-Bitter, you'll probably call this a "Guyana lightweight." But that's a similarly pointless debate with DOK hardcore fans who don't want to accept the enthusiasm for dreamily fruity OWH charmers. But I digress. Short & simple: Savalle is (luckily) completely underrated.

The richness and depth of flavour are absolutely first class. A proper thick and oily rum that coats your mouth with sultana, caramel and leathery notes. A very long and chewy finish follows.

Good rum, nicely sweet with rich flavours of spice and cocoa. Most people's idea of what rum taste like is probably pretty close to this. The alcohol is really well integrated despite its strength meaning it's very easy to drink. Only downside is it's quite tannic and drying on the finish, but maybe that's more on my personal preference.
