"Almost doesn't seem like Sajous," one member wrote — and that's the whole story here. This aged clairin still shows its raw side: sugarcane, mint, a mineral streak and grassy vegetal notes, now wrapped in wood from a Caroni cask that adds a faint tar-and-rubber whisper at the finish. Sweet on the first sip, then it turns green and herbal. Well-integrated at 54.6%.

Watching the Tour de France and tasting a few samples at the same time. This will be a wonderful afternoon. Wow, here we have a great Clairin, mostly vegetal, you can recognize cane, herbs, and mint.

Sajous is and remains my favorite clairin. Here is the oldest one for me besides the LMDW bottling. Beautiful nose, great aromatics, basically very round and complex. Like a dessert refined with passion fruit and tangerine, but also some bitter flavors and minerality, as well as acidity that bothers me a bit. The LMDW bottling clearly has the edge for me here.

Fruity freshness on the nose ... Herbal floral notes and a slight hint of dirty leather and light tar (difficult to describe). On the palate First alcohol well integrated. Honey, yellow fruits, melon, mint and vegetal notes. The dirtiness is very minimal and comes through more in the finish .... All in all, decent but not surprising.

Toller Rum aus Haiti. Er hat eine sehr unterhaltsame Nase mit angenehmen Aromen. Zuerst habe ich Zuckerrohr, Kokosnuss, Marshmallows, Mandarine und Limette. Dann kommen nach einer pflanzlichen Note noch etwas mineralisches, gefolgt von Minze und Kräutern. Am Gaumen ist er recht süß im Antritt und der Alkohol ist gut eingebunden. Zuckerrohr, Kokosnuss, pflanzliche Noten und Minze gehen über in Lakritze, gebrannten Zucker, Mandarine, Limette und werden von schönen Röstaromen abgerundet. Die gesamte Aromatik ist nicht besonders kraftvoll/intensiv aber doch harmonisch und vielschichtig. Der mittellange Abgang hat eine ähnliche Aromatik wie der Gaumen und zeichnet sich zusätzlich durch Fassnoten und Grapefruit aus. Die frischen Zitrusnoten gefallen mir echt gut. Another beautiful 'expiriment of clairin aged in caroni barrels! Despite the barrel it managed to keep some peculiarities of white clairin, especially the vegetal and fruity part! Promoted!

This one took about 30 minutes to open up. On the nose: Light and toasted. Sugarcane and mineral notes are the dominating ones. Herbal notes. Light coconut notes. I guess the glue/rubber note is from Caroni cask. Taste: Sugarcane and vegetal notes at first. At the very first sip its sweet, but soon the palate changes towards more vegetal notes and minty notes. Mouthfeel is slightly oily and there is tar notes in the end. The abv integration is pretty good. Finish: Vegetal, sugarcane and mineral notes. Light coconut notes. Towards the end you get some barrel influence with tar notes. Good release, but the palate didn't really offer something that would make this release stand out.

This Chelo leaves me somewhat conflicted... The nose is quite pleasantly fruity with some sugarcane and mint. On the palate, spices and wood come in. At first, it seems complex, but after longer time on the palate, strange off-notes appear. A chemical bitterness that I can't explain and, as said, is somewhat ambivalent.

Ein Clairin, wie er im Buche steht. Kommt dem Vieux Sajous Clairin 2019 sehr nahe, bleibt aber im Gesamteindruck dahinter zurück. Man merkt es schon an der recht blassen Farbe, man hat ihn einfach in ein Caroni Fass gestopft und das Beste gehofft. Er ist nicht schlecht, aber blieb vor allem bedingt durch Marketing und Caroni-Finish hinter meinen persönlichen Erwartungen zurück.

Sajous is my favorite clairin and this bottling is not bad either, but it doesn't come close to the 5-year-old from LMDW. Brings a bit more sweetness, honey and yellow fruits. Caroni cask comes through at most very subtly.

Beautiful proof for Sajous , almost doesn't sound like him. Plant trained by a great wood , not opaque like sherry casks, incisive on taste and final harmony , caroni cask.
