Most tasters land in the same spot: a heavy, chewy Guyana Diamond that's easy to like but not deep. Expect big wood, raisin, chocolate-caramel and pepper, with a meaty, almost salty edge on the finish. The recurring gripe is the 64.5% heat, which several found a touch dominant. Blind tasting. Nice maltiness on the nose at first, thought of a REV 1994 at first, but the impression quickly faded, so I guessed a Diamond, perhaps from 2002. The alcohol is very well integrated, you can taste a whole bunch of herbs, as well as strong eucalyptus. Although objectively certainly a very good rum at an incredible PLV, I somehow found it difficult to finish the sample. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea.

Today, a comparison of the two releases from Our Rum&Spirits. Both from Guyana from 2003. In conclusion, I have to say that I like the one aged one year longer much better. The younger one seems less balanced. Both are okay. But unfortunately not top class for me.

So now I have to clean up some samples from the advent calendar🤪 Phew, the alcohol is very present and dominant here. A few drops of water make the rum smoother and more pleasant to drink, but it does not bring out any new flavors.

After a quick visit to the store (Our Rum & Spirits), I took this sample among others. The nose invites with caramel, chocolate, dried fruits, nougat, and coffee. Unfortunately, the alcohol is quite present too. On the palate, a surprisingly floral/perfumed start, along with dried fruits, vanilla, and spices. Unfortunately, again the alcohol is a bit too dominant here. Overall a solid bottling.

Very similar to the previous releases from Our Rum & Spirit, for me slightly ahead because the smokiness is a bit tamer. But it's about nuances, overall the profile remains close. Great releases, here too I can only note which hidden highlights were available for a long time at more than fair prices.

Great rum with a nice interplay of aromas between fruity, herbal and spicy. Plus a pleasant sweetness without being sweet. After a few minutes in the glass, it unfolds its chocolatey side. An insane value for money nowadays.

This too is column still, so I assume the same mark as the 13yo bottles. Not as much wood, a little more fruit and on the palate the alcohol is a bit stronger. However, this too had looong time to breathe (had to delay the tasting, so the sample was 1 day in the covered glass) and I really have no issue with this. Good one, also in regards to price for value, as this is single cask.

Here a Diamond from Guyana. On the nose already very strong with wood and raisins. On the palate then also very intense with wood, raisins and generally very spicy. Definitely a great rum and highly recommended.

The nose is rather raisiny with caramel with a certain lightness. The taste is already nicely spicy and intense. In a positive sense. Here too, raisin with caramel stands out. It definitely has its sweetness.

Nice Guyana with a reasonable price-performance ratio. Dark notes dominate, wood, leather. The whole leaves a feeling of heaviness in the mouth, you feel like you have to chew the rum. What the rum lacks is depth, finesse, or excitement. The alcohol could be better integrated. All in all, a solid Guyana, but not one that will stay in my memory.

A nice and fruity rum with a nice light smoky back. I really like the caramel and smoke in the profile. Well rounded palate with good ABV integration.

On the nose, nice notes of dark sugar and malt come through but always struggle with the alcohol. A nice mouthfeel accompanied by a nice sweetness that counters the alcohol. Finish first like toffee then somewhat bitter.

First of all, the good rating is mainly due to the very good price-performance ratio. An insanely tasty rum that for some reason always ends up in cocktails for me 😂😅 For me purely associative: Guyana x Spain. I perceive this rum as very sweet, with nice tobacco and leather notes - if it weren't for a certain sprittiness, it is very pleasant. And then suddenly it has another level of herbs and eucalyptus, which I also associate with Guyana, and at the end even some licorice. I think you get a lot of delicious rum for really moderate money here, considering what Velier and co already charge for some unaged stuff, which surely has its justification but not for that price. And since it gets drunk (way too quickly) anyway, it doesn't really bother me that no well-known bottler is behind it who would disproportionately raise the price for the content in the coming years.

I needed a bit of a change from all the fruity rums and opened this Diamond. Got it for a bargain price of 55€ and for that, it's really top. The nose is characterized by burnt sugar, plums and raisins, oak and spices. On the palate, very heavy, woody spicy, with caramel and raisins in dark chocolate. Towards the finish, it changes and you feel a meaty brine and heavy roasted aromas that also accompany the finish. A nice rum for the money.

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: Both rums are pleasantly strong and caramel-like on the nose. Vanilla and honey come through. Oak wood notes resonate. But also ripe fruits like mango and orange. Overall, the 14-year-old is a bit stronger, but only noticeable in direct comparison. The smell is very similar. I find the rum very tasty on the nose. The longer it sits, the more complex it becomes. Absolutely top. On the palate, the caramel note dominates. Vanilla is clearly noticeable. Tropical fruit resonates clearly. The high alcohol distributes the aromas very well and does not linger on the tongue. Besides the wood, some spice like cinnamon also resonates. With a few drops of water, the rum becomes more complex on the tip of the tongue. Pastry spices and also some leather are now perceptible. The finish is accompanied by a sweet residual note of wood and also bitter substances. But here I miss the certain extra that one expects when drinking and then is not quite fulfilled. The Guyana rum from Our Rum is of high quality and the cask strength is a lot of fun. The finish could be more complex and despite the high alcohol content, it is a bit too gentle. Both rums are very similar. The 14-year-old is a bit stronger, the 13-year-old reacted more complexly to the water. Therefore a review for both. My first Guyana and it was already really good. But there are definitely better or more complex bottlings.
