Cream toffee, burnt caramel and a surprising strawberry-candy fruitiness lead here, backed by oak, roasted nuts and vanilla. It's a 2006 TDL that leans soft and Spanish-style, and nearly every taster notes it barely reads as Trinidad — several would blind-guess Foursquare. Sweet and dessert-like up front, but the finish turns dry, bitter and a touch short. Pleasant, if not quite what people hoped for.

Mkay… Is this one wrong labeled, isn’t it? Blindly I would never classify this one as a Rum from Trinidad. It’s not a bad rum, it just doesn’t fit my expectations from Trinidad… Nose: Pastries, Fruity (Strawberries?!?), cream toffee, woody, oak, roasted, leather, with a hint of vegetal notes. Palate: fruity, spicy, oak, vanilla, leather, more vegetal and floral notes. Finish: Medium long, dry almost astringend, woody, oak, leather (reminds me on old, broken leather stuff)

Oh well, unfortunately this is out of line - downwards. Quite volatile on the nose and smelling like lemonade syrup, artificially bitter-sweet on the palate. I wouldn't have recognized it blindly as a rum from Trinidad. Doesn't meet my expectations at all, so I'm glad I didn't buy a bottle. Thank you, zabo, for the sample.

At first, the nose appeared fruity (strawberries in particular). Then wood. Some time later, caramel takes center stage. Slightly burnt caramel. On the palate, the alcohol is biting and insufficiently integrated. Wood dominates. The caramel is still there. Sweet and greedy. Nice, but the alcohol is too present for me. Edit: a drop of water brings more roundness and attenuates the presence of alcohol. I think this bottle would have benefited from being reduced by several degrees.

I couldn't find any 2006 TDLs in my tasting history. Before Rum Artesanal discovered the 2001s and CDI (a few years earlier) the 2003s, TDL was a distillery with a very mediocre reputation. Very arbitrary rums in the Spanish style, too sweet, too insignificant. I have no high expectations for these 2006s from Precious Liquors and the Steampunk from Zero Nine Spirits, just expecting that boring Spanish style. The first impression on the nose confirms me. Blind, I would never have thought this was a TDL. I can't immediately find any of the typical markers. It smells a bit like a Spanish Jamaican - if that makes any sense beyond the great columns (CRV, NY94, MBS). That means very light tropical fruit (banana), but in a rather flat vanilla-caramel corset. The Steampunk is a bit fruitier, the PL is vanilla-spicy. Also some glue, a few cashews, very little wood and as said: absolutely no mint, no herbs, no peach iced tea anywhere. The mouth is also very Spanish with the banana dominating the nose. Some strange note lies across it, I can't name it well. The PL is darker and more roasted than the Steampunk, which shows consistently light aromas. The finish is short, especially compared to the heavy TDLs from 2001 to 2003. Strange that I find nothing really disturbing, but also nothing that really interests me. A peculiar rum, not boring, but also not particularly appetizing.

First impression of sampling. Quite nice, but not a great runaway to the top. Alcohol well integrated and quite drinkable due to the 58%. More will follow in peace. Well, after tasting it again, I don't think it's that bad. Stick to my first impression, it tastes good.

Leaning towards a classic Spanish style on the nose. Wood, vanilla and caramel. Also a hint of coconuts and artificial (!) fruit notes. Very sweet on the palate with the same artificial fruit notes from the the nose. There is also plenty of wood and some dryness. Easy to drink, but als noticeable watered down. Not bad, but not my cup of tea - äh rum ;)

A TDL that sits on the sweeter side of the distillery's archetype. The nose offers beautiful pastry fragrances of toffee and caramel, mild spices (vanilla, pepper) and roasted nuts. You can detect some red fruits and a discreet freshness that recalls the heavier TDL profiles. It's a more accessible profile. The attack on the palate returns to this caramelized and honeyed side of great indulgence. The fruits are also more present, especially peach, pineapple and dried fruits which give a bit of freshness in the mouth. The profile remains very round with slightly spicy oak, leather, cocoa, vanilla and nuts. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is sharper with the rest of the profile: tannins, leather, cigar tobacco, smoky and woody notes bring something drier and rougher at the end of the mouth. While the fruits have almost disappeared, dark chocolate and buttery caramel take over for a hint of indulgence. Maybe not the most extravagant profile, but surely a more mainstream TDL that will help introduce the style.

Yeah, so nose and mouth are very pleasant, unfortunately the finish falls extremely flat, leaving a dry bitterness. In the mouth actually very decent, vanilla cream, melon, perfumed tobacco, pimento, milk chocolate, tropical fruits. Good, but falls short of expectations.

- a beautiful woodiness, some candied fruits... a redcurrant pastry? - the fruits from the TDL are still there, well marked, rather yellow? Peach and strawberry? The spices are also part of it to enhance everything! - Finish: quite bitter caramel, a bit of butter too! Only disappointment, my usual menthol nose is not there, otherwise we really have very beautiful fruits, it's ultra indulgent, rich, it spreads well on the palate

Probably the best of the 2006 vintages tried so far. Funny aroma play of strawberry Campino cream candies, white chocolate with caramel and coconut. Here too, it's rather hard to blind guess TDL, but at least there are clearly fewer off-notes than with other bottlings of this very mixed vintage...

This rum delivered a dessert-like experience to me. The nose is rich and sweet, packed with notes of fruity pastries, cookies, and creamy toffee. It’s like stepping into a bakery, or sunday morning in my grandma's house while shes baking cakes. On the palate, the sweetness continues, leaning into baked goods and ripe fruits, with chocolate and a hint of oak adding structure. While it lacks the fresh minty profile seen in other TDL vintages, this one makes up for it with a fuller body and quite nice integration of alcohol. Overall, it’s a well-crafted rum with enough complexity to stay interesting. Perfect for those who enjoy an indulgent, woody-vanilla-dessert-like profile. A solid choice for cozy, relaxed sipping.

The 2006 vintage from T.D.L probably leans towards the Spanish style. I already had the Schotman bottling in the glass and they are quite similar in profile. This one has slightly better integrated alcohol. Otherwise vanilla, milk chocolate, dried fruits, light sweetness and some wood. Not bad, but also nothing I expect from T.D.L.

Tasted at Rhum Fest Paris 2024 Unusual as a TDL, we're often used to a fresh minty note that here is completely missing along with some dirtiness. Indeed it's not a bad rum, yet a light one closer to Spanish stile and far from the caronesque notes. I enjoyed it but will not look for it again

The nose is very fruity and soft. The palate is more lively with vegetal and smoky notes. The finish is on the same notes, a bit more bitter. The whole reminds me of an old Foursquare, with a bit less harmony.

Overall I liked it. You can clearly find the red fruits, the woodiness and the caramel side on the palate that I like a lot. One might think of Foursquare. The finish is medium-long and continues on caramel/spice/wood. Maybe not classic Trinidad but I like it a lot 😀

A TDL away from the heavy, menthol-heavy profile of some other vintages after 2000 - instead many borrowings from the Spanish style with heavy sweetness of burnt vanilla sugar and cream toffee, subtle fruit notes with partly revealing melon note as well as a rather spicy-roasty aftertaste. Overall quite interesting thanks to good flavor breadth, but the final balance is missing.

Lots of currants on the nose, a bit of caramel, you know it's from TDL, but you feel it's light. The palate confirms the impression. It's good but too light on the palate. Argh, the word that comes out of this tasting is: pity... I expected more.
