Sipped neat it's a young, unaged Hampden that drinks lighter than its 62% suggests — the alcohol is well tucked in. Expect pineapple, olive brine, overripe tropical fruit and a solvent-glue edge, turning more vegetal and sour on the finish. Several tasters called it the roundest, best-balanced pour in the Triple Entente set; a few found it too sour and too herbal to love.

The whole Entente set had to face DomM and me, both neat and in a Daiquiri. Foursquare is very interesting but an acquired taste. I had a certain cauliflower, cooked kohlrabi association here. Hampden is in my opinion the most balanced and the typical Hampden notes are easily recognizable even unaged. The alcohol is also top integrated here. Neisson is as it should be and what you expect from it, nothing bad but unfortunately nothing outstanding either. The ranking remained the same both neat and in the Daiquiri. 1. Hampden 2. Today the Velier Triple Entente in the glass. The last of the bunch: Hampden Here, too, the nose is the most appealing! Almost as one-dimensional on the palate as the Foursquare, only a little more pleasing and intense. I'm glad I resisted the temptation to buy this set. Perhaps still okay as a show and collector's item, but nothing more.

8,3:On the nose, the first impression we get are fermented, estery tropical fruits and vegetal, nutty molasses with some confectionery. On aeration, we are whirled in winterly feeling with baking spices and herbal, dried fruits notes as with more rest we come to earthy, peated notes. Nicely integrated alcohol. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is estery with fruity and confectionery like notes, overripe tropical, dried fruits and sweet, nutty, caramelized pastry. The molasses is vegetal and earthy, spicy and waxy.We might get a feeling of tasting sweet pastry with delicious fruit marmelade. After resting the rum, new wave of tasting notes arise, a bit more bitter with peat, olive, hay, phenol.Even some pear and saddle notes come out. 8,4:The finish is long, delicious with fruit marmelade and different vegetal notes with some spice, nuts... Starts off very spice heavy with cinnamon and backing spices. Some vanilla and cream. With some time to breath tropical fruits and fruit acids show up. A hint of smoke. Well balanced on the palate with a nice creamy texture. Some sweetness and fruits (pineapple and citrus) take center stage. Some bitterness and a hint of salt towards the finish.

I just had to give them a try today 😊 Nose Fresh, medium intense, ester, faint smoke, light citrus, faint herbs, spice fruits, faint cherry. Palate Fresh, medium intense, warm, ester, balanced, fruity, banana, spice, faint leather, light olive, faint salt. Finish Medium to long, fresh, spice, ester, light banana, faint caramel, light olive. Empty glass Vanilla, faint chocolate, citrus, spice, light olive.

According to the Velier website, a new High Ester Mark R<>H in honor of Ruth Hussey with 800-900 gr/hlpa. Well, let's see... Glue and tropical fruits on the nose, very balanced. Also very smooth and balanced on the palate. Alcohol perfectly integrated, incredibly easy to drink despite the high ester and over 60%. Even if all three bottlings of the Entente case do not break new ground in terms of taste, it must be said that all three are really high-quality brandies, without any off-notes and really round and balanced and easy to drink despite the high ABV. My ranking: Hampden > Neisson > Foursquare

Velier Triple Entente Tasting: Hampden clearly recognizable; associations with the 8 Marks tasting come to mind. Clearly rounder than the FSQ and also not so fermented. In the end a solid unaged Hampden with way too high a price.

A very gourmand nose, with tropical fruits, spices, vanilla and esters. On the palate, it's powerful, salty, with lots more fruit. Quite atypical, it doesn't feel like a white Hampden because it's so full-bodied. Very different from the 8-mark whites.

Tasted blind. No doubt about the origin. Hampden without hesitation. And rather on the quite high ester side. I like these supercharged whites. Overripe fruits, esters, olive. Everything blends harmoniously. On the palate, the fruits are very forward. The finish is much more vegetal. Very nice.

Again, not really what I was hoping for. I like unaged Hampden but this one is rather disappointing. Fermented fruit, smoky, slightly bacony, olive brine, burnt hay, some pear and overall just way too herbal and not fruity enough for my taste... With the exception of the Neisson, the whole range was a pretty bitter disappointment and more for collectors but nothing you really have to drink. As I had feared🫣...

Anticipated because of the new Hampden mark: R<>H. It smells very Hampden-y: fruity, solvent and olives. What more can you ask for. The esters deliver more of that on the taste. With the difference that it tastes a bit more sour and dry than it smells. But in a good way. The finish is long as we are used of Hampden. Alcohol is well integrated. This new Hampden mark is a good addition to the other 8 marks and the highlight of the Triple Entente series. Edit: upon second tasting there is this astringent note that Hampden can have. I associate it with their aged versions and expected it to be from the barrel. Quite strong in today’s session. Not very appealing. That is next to all the regular Hampden markers of course. Loses in my daiquiri competition from the other Triple Ententes and the 2018 Clairin Casimir. This mark somehow comes up too sour. It works better as a highlight in a mai tai.
