A bar in Vienna has an open bottle and I took a sample with me 😀 Woody, spicy, honey, a little solvent. Let it breathe... Now come more dried fruits, ripe mango and citrus. A melted and heavily roasted bouquet. Good strength. Very spicy/woody in the mouth, perhaps a little thin, but this may be due to the fact that the bottle was opened some time ago. Long, very peppery finish. The highlight of the tasting! 🤩 A great, worthy rum full of emotion. A rum I've always wanted to taste. Chantal Comte and Depaz, that makes my eyes light up. 😍 The book to go with it: Patrick Fermor's "The Violins of Jean-Jaques".

And third to last, a nice Agricole. You can recognize wood here, as well as some spice. Leather, vanilla, and cinnamon stand out especially. But I still find it quite tasty. Nice Agricole.

8,7:On the nose, sugarcane, grassy, waxy, fermented, herbaceous, vegetal with sap, flowery and mineral, yellow fruits, grapes, orange peel, toasted wood notes like pastry, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, banana and mango arise, dairy hints, the cane is fresh with tea, earthy with tobacco, candied, cinammon, vanilla, milk chocolate, nuts join. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is slightly sweet, waxy, soft with sugarcane honey, grassy, herbaceous, fresh with tea, mineral, candied, earthy with tobacco, fruity with yellow, citrus fruits, banana, as the wood is toasted with nuts, leather, spicy with cinnamon, vanilla, peppery. 8,4:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, with herbal, floral, sugarcane, dark with black tea, grassy with hay, fruity, slightly metallic, as oak is toasted with cocoa, hazelnuts, coffee hints, spicy, smoky, barrel impact is obvious.

A special rum in the glass today! The nose is rather restrained at first, but also somehow velvety soft. Spicy notes, allspice, orange zest, malt, dried fruit, melting milk chocolate. Musk nut, malt coffee on the palate. A little watery, but not dramatic...Many thanks to Vienna for the great sample!

Wonderfully smooth aged Agricole. It feels great to have a rum in your glass that is older than you are. Very soft and round overall, with the expected woody notes and hints of nuts and leather.

A very pleasant soft Agricole that cannot deny its age and dilution. But that doesn't harm it at all, the wood influence blends very well with the fruity aromas. On the palate besides the fruity also spicy and woody aromas appear. This creates a very gentle and soft interplay. The finish then develops more on the woody side.

The cashew note on the nose bothers me a little (reminds me of Montaguere's Karukera Christian). It fades after a long opening. The palate, on the other hand, has what I like in these great Martiniquais: elegant oak and gourmet nuts, refreshed just right by the spices.

Wow, what a rum! How I love these rums that evolve endlessly in the glass, alternating between dark and reassuring notes. Just as pleasant on the nose as on the palate. Eternal finish with just the right amount of bitterness. It's magnificent, simply magnificent.

Glue, cleaner, dried fruits and yellow fruits. Clear agricole character, plus some brandy-like notes with plum and a fine sweetness. Surprisingly crisp on the palate, with light roasted aromas. The 45% feels more restrained, more like a 40% bottling. The profile is noble, but watery in the mouth and the texture and aroma profile too thin. In the finish ripe yellow peach and some black pepper. Overall I miss some power and depth. Still a very good, elegant rhum.

On the nose, a nice composition of yellow fruits, herbs, vanilla, and caramel. Milk chocolate! On the palate as balanced as on the nose, with the influence of the cask becoming more dominant. Nuts, oak, caramel, and rusty aromas. Nice thing but a bit weak and a little too thin. But the smell is amazing.

Sample found from my own split. On the nose first a bit of vinegar then agricole notes and fruit. On the palate a bit weak but still fruit, nuts, chocolate with roasted aromas. Hardly woody which is really nice for the age. Weak finish.

The nose is rich, with notes of roasted, tobacco, sugar/honey, leather, some spice, and forest. On the palate it is an explosion containing floral, woody/woody, fruity(dates, mango, plum and white grapes), chocolate, tobacco and leather hints in a fairly dry setting and a light, delicate finish with hazelnut ice cream and an almost perfect roundness, the fruity notes stand out.

The few rhums I tried from Chantal Comte have all been outstanding, so is this one. Beautiful balanced on the nose, a nice composition of yellow fruits, herbs, vanilla and karamell. Milk chocolate! As balanced on the palate as on the nose with the influence of the cask becoming more dominant. Nuts, oak, karamel and rosty flavors. Not too long of a finish.

Wow! What a strong nose! Definitely an Agricole, but a mature one, with lots of spice, wood, tobacco, and a bit of orange peel. Nutty, woody, and with tobacco notes on the palate as well, but unfortunately somehow thin and watered down. That unfortunately dulls the overall impression a bit.
