Can you make oil from berries? At any rate, this is the taste of Kirsch's Mhoba, finely balanced with a somehow high-quality solvent. Special, different from the typical Mhoba flavor range, but just as good. Update 2024-03-03: Have the rum in the glass again today while bottling for a split and simply have to rate it highly, because the alcohol is basically imperceptible on the nose and is entirely in the service of flavor transport on the palate. How can a rum that has been aged for less than five years be so good! Great art.

On the nose, strong sugarcane notes, solvent, some wood and a smoky earthiness. On the palate, powerful and demanding, with green, grassy tones, light fruit sweetness and a marked bitterness. The alcohol is present and emphasizes the rustic structure. The finish is dry, spicy and slightly metallic. An intense but hard-to-access MHOBA, more by power than finesse.

A great Mhoba bottling from Kirsch! On the nose, you can already smell the fermented berries and the glue. On the palate, the scent is confirmed in the intense oily rum. The finish is long and the bottle is still available. In my opinion, there is hardly a better rum for this price!

8,5:On the nose, esters, glue and rubber, strong barrel impact with roasted wood notes like nuts, perhaps peanut butter, toffee, really buttery, overripe tropical fruits, fermented and sugarcane with sesame, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, vanilla is obvious, some confectionery and baked apple, berries and banana, minty sugar cane. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with esters, glue, fruity with overripe tropical fruits, green fruits and berries, the sugarcane is mineral, vegetal with briny olive, sesame, grassy and minty, as the wood is roasted, spicy with roasted nuts, cream toffee, oily. 8,5:The finish is long, dry, medicinal, fruity and woody with palate notes lingering on, still vegetal. Very delicious, fruity rum🤤It reminds me also on a Hampden with a nice varity of berries in the background. The Alcohol is integrated well and the cask is perfect balance with the rum it self. You can still get this rum at a good price.

After all the positive reviews, I cross-tasted this Mhoba against my reference from HV 2017. For me, this is an atypical Mhoba and falls well short of the HV. I miss the classic aromas and complexity here. This is truly a very good rum, but not a real Mhoba for me

And another Mhoba, the 4th in 4 days. Matured in a Woodfort barrel and the barrel does indeed have a clear influence. Nose: Bourbon! is my first impression, followed by a pleasant, woody spiciness. A fine tobacco-smoky note and a hint of marzipan overlay this. This is followed by a buttery toffee-caramel sweetness. Now the fruits also come into their own, ripe banana, papaya and tart passion fruit with lemon. A deep draught brings out the vinegar. A beautiful blend of the classic Mhoba profile and intense bourbon. 8.5 Palate: strong, woody and spicy. Here, too, I find the bourbon influence clear. Astringent and bitter at the beginning, then briefly marzipan, before light esters and then finally sweet and sour passion fruit and lemon come through. A slight tobacco note at the end. Nice flavor curve, a little too much bourbon. But otherwise good. 8.2

Nase: jede Menge Ester und Klebstoff. Mein erster Gedanke ist Jamaika und Pottstill. Scheint in einem Bourbonfass gelagert zu sein. Außerdem gegrillte Ananas, könnte Hampden sein aber das Profil passt nicht so richtig. Gaumen: sehr alkoholisch, mindestens 65% Alkohol, am Gaumen auch mehr Fasseinfluss. Doch New Yarmouth? Nachklang: mehr Holz und Fass, ganz leicht bitter. Sehr guter Rum, bekomme es aber nicht so recht zusammen: Hampden fällt aus aber New Yarmouth passt auch nicht richtig. Bin gespannt was es ist! Auflösung: Mhoba, na klar!

To round off the day, there's a pretty awesome Mhoba. There's really a lot of ester recognizable here on the nose and palate. It's also very sticky, and we also have tropical fruit and sugar cane on the palate...

Nice mhoba with a great sesame note ... for me, it's a bit different from the mhobas I've tried so far. Possibly not the best if you only want one (as it's a bit different) but a must for mhoba lovers. Addendum: The sesame note reminds me of the O'Reizhino 3yo

Compared to the other Mhoba tastings, this one lagged a bit. The nose seems weaker, less rounded, as if something is missing. On the palate very spicy (salt), herbs and molasses. Among other things, berries, wood and vanilla remain, which I like, but unfortunately it's not enough for an excellent rum.

Initially has all the typical notes on the nose and palate. It has a berry note and is not quite as smooth in consistency as the Velier 2017, but still pleasant. Alcohol is well integrated. I'm curious to see how it compares. Thanks for the sample @Kirsch

Verkostet auf der Pueblo del Ron Nürnberg 2024. Wie es so im Leben ist, am Kirsch Stand probiert und kurze Zeit später Gunnar getroffen, der mir ein Sample von seinem Split mitgebracht hat. Aber zum Rum selbst, irgendwie holt mich Mhoba zur Zeit auch nicht mehr so ab. Das verwährt ihn hier eine bessere Bewertung.

Second try today with the Mhoba from Kirsch. Yesterday the cask influence was way too strong for me and even today the pronounced side of the Woodford cask shows. The rum just needs time to breathe, then it shows nicely complex on the palate, lots of berries, glue, the whole thing feels very viscous, oily.

Mhoba - immer ein spannender Dram und schon wild und ausgiebig diskutiert. Die einen lieben es, die anderen hassen es. Ich persönlich mag es vor allem, weil es so anders ist, kantig, neu. Der WR 10 wurde mir bei einem Tasting beiläufig vor die Nase geschoben und ich war sofort begeistert! Beeren in flüssiger Form, die klassischen Mhoba-Ester und dann noch florale Noten von Minze, Olive und Sesam. Dazu eine interessante Nussigkeit und dann vor allem: Bourbon! Selten habe ich ein Bourbon-Fass so dominant, aber gleichzeitig auch so wohlschmeckend in einer Abfüllung gefunden. Bisher mein Lieblings-Mhoba, props an die Jungs von Kirsch!

Once again a great Mhoba. Generally amazing how all can show such pronounced profiles despite the short cask time. The nose strongly reminds me of Hampden. Complemented by some mint. The alcohol is well integrated and it has a very pleasant sweetness of sugarcane and caramel on the palate, then slightly turns salty. It's also very drinkable and has a pleasant oily finish. Great product.

Woah. Das ist mal ein ganz anderer Mhoba als ich es sonst kenne! Das Mundgefühl ist unfassbar ölig, dick und schwer und gleichzeitig süß und salzig. Als würde man Sesampaste (Tahini) und Erdnussbutter mit grünen Oliven in Salzlake, Sahnetoffee und überreifen Bananen und roten Johannisbeeren trinken. Wirklich spannender und ungewöhnlicher Rum!

I'm not very experienced with Mhoba yet and find Mhoba itself relatively demanding. You have to be in the mood for it. On the nose and palate, solvent, berry fruit basket, wood, creamy toffee, and very thick/oily in consistency.

#7180 18.08.2026 Relaxing in front of the TV while running a few samples. Very nice Mhoba with a pretty good price tag. Medium intense profile with overripe fruits, glue, caramel, light roasted wood, grass and sugarcane.

Third Mhoba for tonight. On the nose: Strong glue notes and fruity notes like berries at first, but once the rum opens up you get more bourbon barrel notes like vanilla and some caramel notes. Taste: Esters, glue notes, light olive notes, sugarcane notes at first. Then you get fruity notes leaning towards berries. Mouthfeel is slightly oily and some light minty notes are in the background. Once the rum opens up you get more barrel notes like vanilla to the palate. I think that the abv is integrated nicely. Finish: Bourbon barrel notes with fermented berry notes while the mouthfeel is slightly oily. Long finish. Pretty good Mhoba rum once again with nice berry notes finishing with barrel influenced notes.

"Small" Mhoba Cross-Tasting 2025: Very nice Mhoba bottling, with glue, some smoke and black tea on the nose. I also find the black tea on the palate. Along with currant and a bit of olive.

At first sniff the esters make me think of Jamaica, but then the banana-pineapple mix is joined by an appealing, distinct berry fruitiness. The bourbon barrel has also left its marks, with the oak fortunately well matured and no greenish young wood notes, but toasted wood, spices, tobacco, leather, and chocolate integrated into the fine distillate. Wow, this one really gives me fun!

Fry some pears 🍐 in butter while your wife is painting her nails 💅 and you’re there. Instantly, before looking into the app, I told myself this is a solid 8.5. Finally, because of the short finish and the not harmonizing abv it’s slightly down. But a nice rum that brings some different flavors!

Such a delectable sipper this one! I’ve not got much experience with Mhobas, but loved this one. The nose is high on glue with roasted pineapples . I definitely get the wood and oakiness as well. The body is sublime - olive, spitroasted pineapple, perhaps a tiny bit leather, and lots of nice spiced, ends with a vegetal note for me. Finish is long and lingering, lots of glue, a bit of pepper in the back of the throat. This is the best glueiest roasted pineapple forward rum I’ve ever - if that makes any sense at all!

Absolutely brilliant nose. Full blast lemon roll and Philadelphia cake. Plus lots of medicinal notes. On the palate salty, mineral and raisin. Finish wonderfully dry and lots of menthol. This is fun and really complex. Great. Alcohol unfortunately a bit present on the palate. Not scratchy but noticeable.

A very nice Mhoba with an oily texture and pleasant toffee aromas. The nose is initially fruity and ester-rich with hints of glue, toffee, caramel, and buttery impressions. Then come berries, vanilla, banana, apricot, nuts, and cask notes. On the palate, the 63% pushes it forward well. Esters, sugarcane, berries, and tropical fruits provide an exotic kick. Creamy toffee, nuts, spicy wood notes, dark chocolate, and mocha make this rum very complex and exciting. This aftertaste somehow reminds me of tiramisu. The medium-length finish lives off berries, vanilla, woody cask notes, and esters that recall overripe fruits. Currants, roasted notes, cocoa, and again mocha bring back the taste of tiramisu, which I really like. This Mhoba is a nice education for the taste buds. Thanks to @FischeJ for the delicious sample 😋

A very unusual Mhoba with a flavour profile reminiscent of Hampden. Beautiful full creamy taste, esters/banana, glue, olives,... It's not a typical Mhoba, but with every sip I like it more and more. I suppose this is the direction of bourbon SCs due to Robert Graves' popularity of Jamaica.
