Sixteen years old and it still reads young — that's the surprise here. This Guyana Port Mourant leans hard into pencil shavings, anise and dry herbal wood, with only faint yellow fruit (mirabelle, plum) poking through. Most tasters find it dry, spicy and a touch bitter, structured rather than playful. One member called it a decent PM, "not the best," and that's the honest gist.

EDIT: I misjudged this rum, it's really much better now. There is a lot of pencil shavings and chocolate. On the palate as well, along with a slight whisky note. I'm raising my rating by a lot. // I will need to get back to it later, because my first impression right really isn't great. I got that one on discount and thought it could be worth a shot, but so far I'm not impressed.

Relatively restrained on the nose with some spices, wood and sharpened pencil. Unfortunately also very dry on the palate, very medicinal & bitter with this personally rather unpleasant pencil note. Almost no fruitiness and very woody and bitter, astringent on the finish...

The nose is rather shallow and restrained except for yellow fruit (mirabelle plums) and comes across as a little sharp. After a while, unripe mango is added. The palate picks up speed: initially fruity and sweet, but this almost immediately turns into dry notes such as leather, herbs and a slight bitterness. The finish consists almost exclusively of the long-lasting (dusty) dryness and a little spice Passable rum with a certain elegance, but it's not my cup of tea.

On the nose wood, herbs, a bit of licorice and dark molasses. On the palate dry and structured with oak, spices and a slightly bitter, almost medicinal note. Comes across straightforward and quite intense, without being particularly playful. Bottling with typical PM DNA.

Palate Fresh, light, light wood, faint smoke, plums, light pencil shavings, light anise, light leather, faint bitter. Nice Port Mourant profile, but somehow also contains melassic Versailles pencil notes. Therefore not quite as herbal and spicy as a 'normal' PM.

Still seems a bit young on the nose, but the typical spiciness with a portion of anise is clearly recognizable. And yes, I also have a bit of pencil here. On the palate then very spicy dry, unfortunately I miss the balance here so that it actually tends towards sour.

GRF 2024 fair evaluation. Typical continental PM from the 2000s. Herbal wood, subtle fruit, dry finish. More balanced than other releases, those who like this profile will find an appealing price-performance ratio here.
