Anyone who loves Hampden funk but finds full-throttle DOK exhausting should look here. Fifteen years in the cask has tamed the beast: still loads of glue, acetone and overripe pineapple, plus marzipan and banana, but rounder and better integrated than most DOKs. One taster called it "almost smooth" in DOK terms. A few wish it had kept more of that wild acidity.

Tropical fruits clearly dominate here. Pineapple, mango, and plenty of ester funk. On the palate, just as much ester, tropical fruits, solvent. In the finish, green olives, dry and slightly salty. Almost no cask notes and quite a pale color. All this makes me guess Hampden, about 10 years old, 60% ABV. The mark is trickier: maybe DOK?

Blind DOK Tasting - 6th and penultimate place. It’s quite a good rum, also looking on the price tag and the wonderful marzipan/caramel notes. It’s like a “beginners” DOK, with a well integrated alcohol contend..

Edit: had another look at the RumX 2024 -6 calendar today. Definitely not recognized as a doc. Much too tame. It should have been out of the barrel much earlier Corrected downwards I liked the DOK from Rum Artesanal a little better than the one from Colours of Rum. But in my opinion, it has been in the barrel too long and I miss a little of the wildness that I like so much about the Mark. It's good, but more on the smooth, round side without any big rough edges. A little too good for the Mark. I personally wouldn't buy a bottle here either. But the price is fair in this day and age.

Very accessible Hampden, probably from the DOK marque, for which the release is surprisingly accessible. Lots of drop fruit, but also pleasantly sweet and balanced. Great release, a highlight in the current Hampden releases.

First impression on the nose: surprisingly round and sweet (those tinned fruits for the fruit base come to mind), underpinned by a slight note of glue and sour cream. Also quite 'smooth' on the palate. The 15 years in the barrel have done a great job here. I found the 12yr TRC DOK a little more exciting, but the RA certainly has nothing to hide!

RumX Advent Calendar 2024: No.6 A very fruity and light rum with noticeable ester influences. The alcohol is not quite perfectly integrated or simply very high. Tannins are also very noticeable. Basically a solid rum but not quite to my personal taste.

GRF13: Another 2009 Hampden DOK that fits seamlessly into the series of these vintage bottlings. It has all the aromas of this mark and also contains a minimal smokiness on the palate. If you are a fan of DOK, you can enjoy this one without hesitation.

#5149 16.03.2025 Running through some samples at home. Nose Fresh, medium intense, light wood, faint smoke, fruity, ester, light pineapple, faint floral. Palate Round, fresh, oily, medium intense, light pineapple, banana, ester, light wood, faint glue, spice. Finish Long, balanced, light oily, fruits, banana, faint glue, spice. Empty glass Chocolate, vanilla, light pineapple, faint floral. Needs to rest for a while to really open up. ABV integration is very good.

RumX Advent Calendar, Day 6. Lots of esters on the nose, and fruit; tropical fruit and fresh pineapple. The wood is discreet and an acetone/solvent side hovers over this rum. The first palate is sweet with fruit, but immediately a pronounced bitterness invades the palate. Alcohol and wood support the fruit flavors. The finish is moderately long, with bitterness giving way to fine acidity and fruit at the very end.

Tasted at the 13th GRF. A very balanced, almost mild DOK. And also a DOK with an unusual herbal note. This is especially confirmed on the palate where even some aniseed is recognizable. Otherwise a nice DOK with a very good P/L. You can't go wrong here. I like it very much. Becomes more and more complex with time in the glass. Beautiful piece

RumX Advent Calendar Day 6 Nose... Fruity... Marzipan pineapple banana... a Jamaica profile with a medium ester level so my impression. Palate... Hampden, fruity pineapple banana marzipan but also woody notes. Alcohol a little bitchy at least on the palate. Finish relatively bitter. Edit: I would not have expected a DOK, very restrained and zam for it. Nevertheless not bad.

Day 6 of the RumX advent calendar: Despite the attack being characterized by a certain vinegar-like acid kick and the noticeable ester content, the mouthfeel that follows is very relaxed and invites extensive chewing before a long and very fine finish follows. I would prefer a little less acidity, but this is still a very nice Jamaican rum.

Tasted at the German Rumfestival and tasted again today. A typical DOK, lots of vinegar at the beginning. A little less brute overall. I also noticed the floral, herbal notes, but they quickly disappeared again. Anyone who likes DOK will also like this one.

Delicious round and very drinkable DOK. Alcohol perfectly integrated, light, subtle acidity with lots of fruit, some herbs and marzipan balls. Definitely worth drinking and the price of 90€ is more than fair!

What can I say? It's an aromatic atom bomb. The nose explodes with borderline rotten fruit (pineapple forgotten in the basket, exploded banana). Acetone fills the nostrils without being sickening, with that nail polish. All warm and intriguing. The palate is oily, like sipping sun-forgotten pineapple essential oil. The esters develop on the palate with incredible power. Everything is well-balanced without going overboard. There's a slightly fizzy edge on the tongue, yet it's round and greedy. The finish offers a bouquet of spices that carry through to an interminable finish.

Just after the magnificent hjf full proof from old brother, I discover this bottling from R.A., and with a DOK, you'd expect it to rock a bit! On the nose as on the palate, it starts out with a lot of esters, a strong glue smell. After dissipation comes ripe tropical fruit. The oak softens the intense concentration. Good balance.

Wonderful fruit basket on the nose. Plus glue and marzipan. 100% Hampden High Ester essence. On the palate, nicely integrated alcohol. Clearly more pleasing than many other DOKs. But here too, the Hampden High Ester profile dominates, without outliers. No disturbing aromas but also nothing new/unusual. Does everything absolutely right, nothing more, nothing less.

RumX Calendar 2024 Day 6: Another Hampden? Same Jamaica notes, but significantly less intense. The nose is almost gentle & reserved compared to Day 5. But the picture changes in the mouth, where the intensity is full of glue, acidity and astringency. Still nicely balanced and less wild than the young C<>H. Suspect older age and maybe HGML? Hmm…

Very approachable DOK with pronounced esters and various tropical fruits. Alongside that, a nice combination of marzipan and pastries that lingers on the palate for a long time. On the palate very velvety and towards the finish very dry with a slight woody note.

I find that aeration has really brought out the sweetness on the finish, with banana dominating the tasting overall, but here it's almost a dessert banana flambé. Otherwise, of course, esters, funk and ripe fruit galore. Very pleasant!

Beautiful DOK that delights the room with aromas of pineapple and marzipan as soon as it is poured. Typical DOK nose, some bubblegum. The esters come through well on the palate, but in a very relaxed manner. Even if there is a slight hint of bitterness: I've never drunk such a relaxed DOK before - high ester without being tiring, almost drinkable. It still has power, of course, but not as extreme as you would expect from DOK. A really nice piece, especially for the price.

Advent Calendar 2024 #6 I'm back in Jamaica, Hampden again, DOK again. But not quite as intense this time, comes across as restrained at first, but after some time in glass I'm more and more with DOK. Alcohol is perfectly integrated here.

Day 6 RumX Advent calendar More esters like on day 5. In this case, however, I find it less complex. Could almost be a DOK, very round and not very brute. But overall very tasty again if you like the profile. Nice tropical fruit, again a lot of ester and a little cherry. Very well integrated alcohol.

RumX advent calendar door no. 6: Well, St. Nicholas is knocking. In the nose and on the palate, the rum nails its esters to the door. Fruity but above all: varnish, petrol, iodine, Pattex, nail polish remover. Actually quite cool... Cheers!

Smells in blind tasting of ester and lots of fermented fruits. That can only be Hampden. Should only be consumed in small amounts as it kills everything and is not really among the good Hampden High Ester rums. Probably spent too long in the barrel.

Very fruity and tasty. The high alcohol content is well integrated. Unfortunately only had 2cl for tasting, which is actually too little for a meaningful tasting. The high price scares me a bit.

I have distinct ester notes on the nose, but also tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, and overripe mango. On the palate, the ester notes fade and only the tropical fruits dominate. The finish is medium to long. Good value for money.

Clearly Hampden, pretty young with continental ageing. High esters with plastic notes, alcool integration is not that good, maybe impaired by the high esters perceived. Not the best Hampden I tried so far

RumXmas 2024, day 6. Somehow I’m leaning more towards Hampden. Acidity from the esters, tropical fruits, some glue… Fruitiness makes me think of HGML… or a blend? Alcohol integrated quite well, little burn, around 55%? Perhaps one of the Great House expressions, new beginnings or the maverick? Distillery and ABV quite right. Have tasted a couple of 2009 DOK’s and didn’t make the connection. Very good, especially when after a while the acidity fades and it gets a bit more buttery.

Rumy-X advent calendar Oliver Gerhart 2024. DOK is the brand with the highest amount of esters that rums from the Hampden distillery can offer. Sometimes it's a bit much, but in this case, it's a very pleasantly tuned fruit basket.

RumX Advent 2024-6 I'm on Hampden. And I'm also more in the high ester range. Jamaica is probably beyond question. Lots of glue, quite sour, and of course very fruity. Subtle barrel influence. In the mouth I don't find it so mild either. I think it will be well over 50% ABV. But that could also be a daily form. I definitely like it. Nice sweet-sour play.

Very nice DOK with the typical fruit esters, pineapple, yellow fruits etc. The years have tamed the DOK somewhat, so that the bottling is not quite so brute. It is also relatively (fermented) sweet for a DOK. I prefer a little more acidity here. PLV also very good, clear recommendation to buy.

Blind tasting. Hits hard: absolutely high ester Jamaica. Once you get past the sharpness, you let yourself be enveloped and fall into the cookie dough 🍪.. until the acidity and cheese join in.. Solid stuff.
