West Indies Rum Artesanal Barbados Rum WIRD 2000
Herbal, resinous and a little medicinal — this 24-year WIRD leans into the Rockley style but in its quieter 2000 form. Expect chamomile, dark forest honey, bitter orange and kumquat, with a speckig, bacon-like smoke on the palate and a long dry finish. At 46.9% it drinks elegant, never thin. The classic honey-smoke is subtler here than fans expect, so opinions divide.

How does West Indies Rum Artesanal Barbados Rum WIRD 2000 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Herbal, smoky mature Rockley-style Barbados Most tasters rate it a fine, mature Rockley — herbal, smoky, well balanced. The catch: the trademark honey fades behind bitter citrus and medicinal notes, which splits the room.

Very diverse and complex, in its own way also demanding. A lot happens especially in the mouth. From leather to chocolate, earthy, salty to medicinal and herbal. My wife says it smells like whiteboard marker. I like this profile even if this bottling may not be the best, it still pleases. Very long finish btw.

Nose: Herbs and resin are my first associations. Very medicinal and unusual in this combination! I hardly recognize the honey typical of WIRD and with the herbs it comes across more as dark forest honey. Very mild/thin and very medicinal on the palate, then with a bitter/dry mouthfeel, which reinforces the medicinal aspect. The finish slowly fades with the medicinal and dry notes I like to award bonus points for unusual bottlings, but this one doesn't convince me - it seems disharmonious and unbalanced to me.

For me, this 2000 W.I.RD. has a slight edge over its predecessor. Despite a lower alcohol content, I find it more complex than its predecessor. A very successful and rounded bottling.

Quite herbal on the nose. A great, bacony smoky note on the palate. Very pleasant drinking strength.

Compared to the RA Rockley 2000 from 2021 and the SBS 2000 PX cask finish. The new Rockley is somehow a disappointment on the nose, reminds me more of the RA SFGB with the Swiss pine and kumquat. But it has little in common with the typical, highly appreciated Rockley notes (smoke/honey). Unfortunately, the SBS doesn't convince me either, the PX finish overwhelms everything here (as often).

The typical Rockley honey-smoke note can be found in the bottling, although of course only in the more subtle 2000 form. But there is also a quite pronounced herbal note. Personally, I don't need that in a Rockley, but I can't say that it bothered me either.

Typical 2000 WIRD profile, but significantly riper and woodier than the first bottling of Rum Artesanal. What surprises me is the distinctive orange note, which clearly turns bitter on the palate. I like the fact that the rum is much more present in the mouth than its predecessor, despite a slightly lower alcohol content. In direct comparison, however, the "Rockley" characteristics are somewhat less pronounced, which is not necessarily a bad thing for the rum itself, as the first bottling doesn't have much to offer apart from the classic aromas!

Pure saffron, saffron with acacia honey. Some chamomile, very subtle kumquat and bitter orange, some oak wood, light roasted aromas that are also reminiscent of incense from the church and almost bacony and leathery aromas. Very fine and balanced, not too thin at any point... A real surprise for me from the otherwise rather weakly rated 2000 WIRD vintage. Despite the rather low alcohol content, very elegant and not too weak. Beautiful bottling from RA!

Mhm, this is again a weird Wird bottling, outside my comfort zone. Somehow I miss the clear honey notes here, hardly or not at all recognizable for me. Unfortunately, it didn't convince me and was then sunk in cola.

Great Rockley profile at a small price. If you appreciate the Rockley profile, you'll really get your money's worth here. The 1986 profile is certainly even more intense and complex, but overall simply unique, incomparable to anything else.

A nice profile on the nose. Some honey, slightly floral, bright dry fruit. Very very inviting. On the palate, bitter orange and herbal notes set the tone. Ultimately on almost the same level as the previously bottled cask. Difficult to see a frontrunner here. It's simply a matter of taste. Both are united by a good balance and while the bitter citrus/orange (kumquat) stands out here, it's the beautiful honey note in the predecessor that I like a little better.

Tasted at GRF2025 More than decent Barbados.

Perfect young WIRD. Should stay a few more years in barrel.
