Uitvlugt Rum Artesanal Guyana Rum 1997
Most tasters land on "good, not a knockout" here — herbal, continental Uitvlugt with lots of walnut, pencil shavings and dried fruit on the nose. The twist people keep flagging is the palate: an oily, almost honey-like sweetness that some love and others find distracting. Finish runs long and warm, though a few note it turns bitter and tannic at the end.

How does Uitvlugt Rum Artesanal Guyana Rum 1997 taste?
Aggregated from 27 community reviews.
Herbal continental Uitvlugt, oddly honey-sweet Well-liked older continental Uitvlugt: herb-and-walnut nose, surprisingly sweet honeyed palate. The bitter tannic finish and that dominant sweetness split opinion — many enjoy it, some don't.

Sehr guter, intensiver Rum!

For the fact that I rarely like continental matured Guyana rums, especially uitvluigt is often not my cup of tea, this one is surprisingly good. The only thing that irritates me is the very present sweetness, which is almost reminiscent of honey in terms of viscosity. It also has slight tendencies of 2000 WIRDs. The alcohol could be a tad better integrated, but this is still a solid older continental Uitvluigt.

#5059 30.11.2024 Tasting at Whisky Watcher tasting in Odense. Nose Medium intense, wood, light herbal, spice, light tobacco, dried fruit, faint chocolate. Palate Oily, medium intense, wood, faint herbal, fruits, raisin, medium spicy, light roasted, light medicinal. Finish Long and warm, wood, light roasted, light anise, light tannins, faint mineral, light medicinal. The empty glass has light citrus, licorice, light chocolate and some pencil shavings.

German Rum Festival 2025.

A classic continental Uitvlugt with well-balanced flavors. A small fly in the ointment is the slightly late, rather bitter finish. But overall it is quite decent, if not outstanding.

Viel Walnuss und Kräuter in der Nase. Am Gaumen intensiv mit einer angenehmen Süße. Toller Rum!

The last Guyana of the evening. For me, the 97 Uitvlugt is not one of the winners of the evening. On the positive side, the herbal aromas predominate and are accompanied by a slight nuttiness. The palate is surprisingly very sweet. Which I personally don't like so much. I even like it better in the medium-long finish than on the palate right from the start.

Uitvlugt 1997 - a big name that this bottling can't really live up to. As you would expect from continental Uitvlugts, the typical basic herbal character is also found here, complemented by walnut and pencil. The oily sweetness is exciting, reminiscent of honey or maple syrup and surprisingly dominant.

Mhm, I didn't think it was that bad, I really like those pencil shavings, which I think are there and could be a little more intense. The rest of the aromas also come across well.
Review by Skyfly
A really good rum from Guyana. The dominant notes of this bottling are a mix of pencil shavings, herbs, and walnut. Alongside that, you can smell/taste the classic markers. The alcohol is excellently integrated.

Continental matured 1997 Uitvlugt from Rum Artesanal. The alcohol is well integrated. Nice sweetness, light honey note, lots of herbs. Bitter notes come through in the finish. Overall harmonious, however, if you like the style.

Excellent Port Mourant profile! In addition to the typical herbal notes, a nice sweetness. Unfortunately, borderline dominant bitter notes on the finish.
Review by Rum Watcher
Very, very "herbal", typically Continental. I thought it was very good, and the majority of the tasters thought so too. However, I can understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea.

01-03-2025 Decent Uitvlugt. Missing some fruit in the taste. Mostly dominant by pepper and slight wet oak.
