On the nose offers an absolutely fantastic play of aromas. Overripe tropical fruits demand our full attention, medicinal-mineral notes flank the bouquet in an elegant way and offer an almost endlessly deep aroma mirror that delights again and again. On the palate, the complexity diminishes a bit but remains on an impressive level. Unfortunately, the flavor world here increasingly shifts towards chemical dental treatment, which no longer gives me boundless pleasure – even without dental phobia, I don't want to be reminded olfactorily or gustatorily of the last dental hygiene session when enjoying a rum. I estimate the potential in these high ester bombs as extremely high and look forward very much to what else awaits us. I therefore consider the enjoyment of this distillate, apart from all fascination, above all as a promise for the future.

We need a new attribute for the smell: acetone! When sniffing carefully I observe a phenomenon unknown to me so far: the nasal mucosa or olfactory epithelium seems to contract, like a kind of protective reaction. And probably not because of excessive alcohol but because of the solvent/acetone smell. Others use such liquids as dilution and we sniff excitedly before drinking 🤪 With water it suddenly goes towards citrus fruits! On the palate then an already unpleasantly intense taste of plastic and chemicals. Only behind that esters and fruit - crazy stuff. Shows me that "estercount" is not everything! The enormous intensity fades relatively quickly in the aftertaste but remains at an absolutely high level. There is definitely a lot of potential here! Great experience together with Alexandre in the RumX masterclass!

Hallelujah! DOK cubed. After the initial shock, this astringency bomb is growing more and more on me ... uh ... on the palate. What do they actually do with so many esters in the industry? 😉

Masterclass with Alexandre Gabriel on 04.04.2024. Plantation becomes Planteray. So this rum was the absolute bomb of all. A bit dentist, solvent, and when I played a bit with the leftovers, this crazy artificial strawberry Hubba Bubba flavor came out, which lasted for hours, it felt like. I want more of that!!!

This is insane stuff! Very, very nice. We can only hope to get our hands on bottlings of this to experiment and enjoy more of this. Also any aged casks obviously would be a blast to try. Thanks to Alexandre and the RumX Team for the masterclass!

A wild flavor-experience! Tried it the first time at a rum festival in 2023, and now once again. Extreme in the nose, with aromas of ester and overripe tropical fruits. In the notes it is intense, with such high ester-count, and pineapple, banana, and an oily, acidic feeling

RumX masterclass Planteray, 4.4.24, live with Alexandre Gabriel. After-tasting. This here was, besides the many exciting things Alexandre had to tell, the clear highlight of the evening. One that lives up to its name: a monster with 2,600 gr/hl Ester and 56%. Madness! Nose: whoa, total ester. Intense, strong and concentrated. But unlike the DOKs of this world, much more citrus-fruity. Lemon, lime, passion fruit, pineapple and sour cherry. Orange peel and lemon peel together with a shabby sweetness. Apple cider vinegar and solvent afterwards. Somehow intoxicating. 8.8 Palate: crazy! Intense citrus esters. Lemon, lime, again artificially intense orange and lemon peel. Very astringent and sour. Has something of citrus cleaner or dish soap. Overripe pineapple at the back. 8.6 Great to be able to try something like this. Whether something like this will come to market remains to be seen. Alexandre definitely strengthened that belief.

#4688 04.04.2024 Online tasting wit RumX and Plantaray. Nose Intense, ester, fruity, overripe, light glue, sweet. Palate Intense, ester, faint glue, fruity, overripe, light floral. Finish Intense, very long and warm, ester, light glue, citrus. This is ester with esters on top and still extremely well balanced with even better ABV integration. Hope they will bottle this in the future.

Planteray/Plantation RumX Online Masterclass: What a monster. Incredibly aromatic and fruity, lots of ester but surprisingly almost without the strenuous nail polish, glue notes that Jamaica high ester usually brings with it. Almost a kind of easy sipping high ester, if you like. An extremely positive surprise! Very tasty!

Planteray RumX Masterclass by Alexandre 04.04.2024: Intense ester bomb and surprise of the evening. I don't know if I ever had a rum in the glass that was so fruity and sour. Glue and solvent are also there, but not as strong as expected. At the finish, at the very end, a medical note like the gauze at the dentist. Not yet matured, but there's a lot of potential in it. So, today I also tasted it together with the official Hogo Monsta bottling and I am quite surprised. I would have expected them both to taste more or less the same. But the official Hogo Monsta doesn't have the acidity on the palate that makes the B-Monster so unique. Too bad, for me it's better than the following official bottling.

Finally I get to this one, and I brought it with me to my vacation. Even unopened I already could sniff it's aroma, and opened it was clear that this is a high Ester rum. Very fruit,y, typical nose. I like that. The tongue... Not so much. I had to dilute it a bit, as it was just so... Intense. There is fruit and Ester galore, it kept changing while tasting it. This I liked very much, and in the end I had even something unusual, a taste of cookie dough.

Plantation Masterclass. By far (by far) the best rum in the set. Really cool stuff. Ester, wood, fruit, it's all there. More of it, please. Blind bet on Trelawny at the beginning. But then new, drier notes are added. Still intense on the palate, but completely different. A bit like the first Hight Ester Savanna. Really great cinema. I hope there's more to come.

Wow, volle ester power. Overripe, rotten fruits. Pineapples, bananas, strawberries, the full fruit basket. Very intense! But more… digestible compared to a DOK, would be great to do a cross tasting between the 2 high ester releases.

Amazing, ester bomb times ten. Apple, pineapple, banana, citrus, glue, solvents, a bit of marzipan or candied. Complexity is truly limited, but this rum is fun anyway. The finish lasts very long!

A real ester bomb. Already when pouring into the glass, the wonderful aromas flow out. Funky slightly sweet glue. In the mouth, the funk immediately turns into a sour strawberry/sour cherry with honey. Alcohol dissipates quite quickly, but the citrus notes remain long on the palate. I'm curious about this bottling 😍

There's the 2600 Ester Monster, called Hugo. Hugo is definitely a highlight to drink something in this category. Lots of DOK on the nose with an extra kick. In the mouth there is the DOK contrast,,,hard to identify fruit. A little tart...not my cup of tea. In the finish it gets better with fruit...even if only subtly, I'm curious what's still to come but currently rather NOPE.

Wow, what a piece! 2500 esters, more than anything known from Jamaica (and that's also regulated by law)! Stuff that not even the nerd drinks neat. So useless? Not at all! In Barbados they mix this stuff into their blends and that's exactly what makes it so interesting! The flavor-giving essence of many blends from Barbados, produced for over a hundred years without most people knowing! It's a huge fun to discover, understand and somehow also love this devilish stuff!

Plantation Tasting April 4th Great nose, reminds me of the freshness of New Yarmouth. Very nice! On the palate very intense, especially sour pineapple. One glass is definitely enough, but for me still the highlight of the tasting.

Wow, opened the sample and the whole place smells like fruit esters. Insanely intense. Right at the glass, quite a lot of nail polish, as you know from high ester rums. The palate is absolutely no less. Full power. Great strawberry note and despite the absurd ester count (2600) really good to drink. Somehow reminds me of that stuff at the dentist's with that artificial banana aroma. I wish such an awesome rum was available to buy. The fact that such things come from Barbados is overwhelming.

Exciting and fascinating. Simply great to have tried the rum. Super intense on all levels. But is the rum tasty? Difficult. Lots of acidity. After 30-45 minutes in the glass it gets better. Also a lot of acidity on the palate. The finish super dry. Ester all over the place. Therefore hard to rate. But I'm honest. I definitely want more of it.

Brutally funky on the nose and here it has its absolute peak. The wood notes and alcohol feel rather rough in taste. The ester etc. is overall fun but somehow I miss the smoothness. The finish is too weak for a high-end rating.

Impressive rum from Planteray, which I did not expect. Absolute flavor explosion with plenty of esters and fruits. A very intense rum that lingers long in the finish. Absolute recommendation for anyone who likes esters.

Let's just say the whole place smells like glue and very ripe fruit for 10 minutes after 1cl of sample in the glass - and leave it at that. Absolutely wild what's going on here, esters at 2600, everything here really is "monster" :D

Ester overkill. 2600 esters, meaning: the room still smells of esters after airing out 3 times. The esters are still noticeable on the palate the next day, despite mouthwash and brushing teeth. On the nose, the full ester spectrum as we know from Jamaica: fermented fruits, varnish, etc. Taste-wise, then quite different from Jamaica: sour, but not fruity sour, slight bitterness, plastic, artificial, more like the Fiji corner. An experience, but an extreme one. Not for sipping, although I am a big DOK fan. Extreme rum experience for advanced drinkers.

The nose is very promising, the palate rather weak. Feels to me like the ester taste is overwhelming and cancelling out. The aged TECC offers me more there.
