Poured neat, this is a Hampden LROK the nose oversells a little: pineapple, tropical fruit and marzipan pull you in, then the palate turns gentler and woodier than you expect. It's the softer, lower-ester side of Hampden, finished in the legendary 1990 C<>H cask, which adds a fruity lift. At 23 years and cask strength, the alcohol is remarkably well integrated.

Very interesting experiment, which turned out pretty good. The long finish in the C<>H cask definitely added to the LROK profile. There is a additional fruitiness on the nose, providing additional complexity. On the palate, the 2000 LROK is dominating. However, throughout a Glas of this bottling, hints of the finish are coming through. This makes for a quite interesting tasting experience, giving a lot to unpack.

Very nice nose with the typical Hampden notes of pineapple, yellow fruits, tropical fruits. All this is also found in the taste, but unfortunately not in the intensity that the nose suggests. It's then just "only" an LROK. Interesting for all those who don't like many esters, for ester lovers rather boring (hence no higher rating from me). Alcohol is very well integrated.

A very successful experiment... the nose is very fruity and sweet compared to unfinished LROK ... on the palate again more classic LROK, with a little aroma of C<>H coming through here too. The alcohol is well integrated.

Tasted at Pueblo del Ron Nürnberg 2024. For me a nice surprise at the fair and again a successful bottling from TheRumCask. Since I tried it several times and let it rest well in the glass, not so bad for an LROK. You can already taste the legendary barrel from 1990 C<>H. Unfortunately, still not the bomb I hoped for. I find the price for a 23-year-old appropriate here.

The TRC in direct comparison with the Rumclub Ed. 21. Even though both are continental 2000s LROK, and the TRC has only been in the barrel for 2 years longer, it's not an entirely fair comparison, because the TRC has an ABV that is almost 10 percentage points higher. It simply has more power on the nose and palate. Apart from that, I notice that the TRC is sweeter on the nose, with candied fruit. It also has cake spices and fermented fruit. The RC is more about sour cream and wine gums. On the palate, the RC surprises with an almost equally roasty and spicy profile. While the RC scored 82 points, I give the TRC 83.

The nose is dominated by tropical fruits in the form of pineapple and banana, chewing gum, a light menthol note, wood and vanilla. The fruity notes also predominate in the mouth. The finish is slightly bitter. ABV is well integrated. A nice bottling, but not particularly attractive for me in terms of price.

I was very curious about this bottling... Nose fruity, woody, smoky, that was the first impression after a few minutes. After about 25 minutes the rum slowly opens up and becomes a bit more complex... marzipan, pineapple, candied fruits, some wood and a nice sweetness. Alcohol extremely well integrated... Nice oily mouthfeel... unfortunately the palate doesn't deliver what the nose promises. At first fruity with typical Hampden notes... but quickly becomes relatively bitter and woody... then the finish in my opinion is rather weak... LROK aged continental style just isn't the exciting mark (for me)... good drop with respectable age, nothing more, nothing less.

First tasted at Village 2024 in Nuremberg and now tried again calmly at home. A very tasty fruity Hampden nose, but somehow soft and creamy, with notes of marzipan. The nose called "buy me!". On the palate sweet and tasty, but somehow unspectacular and with a short finish. Yet I didn't take a bottle and I'm still not sure if I should regret it or not.

Great Hampden. The nose as usually with Hampden mostly tropical fruits. Ester is also noticeable. Among the fruits pineapple stands out. On the palate also very fruity and ester-heavy. Wood is also noticeable due to the 23 years.

#4701 19.04.2024 Relaxing at home after the luxury tasting at Romdeluxe was cancelled due to lack of participants. Nose Light wood, ester, light polish, fruity, pineapple, light marzipan. Palate Ouly, balanced, naturally sweet, light wood, ester, light polish, fruity, marzipan. Finish Medium long and naturally sweet, light wood, fruity, light marzipan. Thick slow moving curtains in the glass. The empty glass has some herbs, vanilla and light bourbon.

Retasting from the Village in Nuremberg... I didn't manage to finish it on site and took a sample with me. I'm neither a big fan of the LROK Marks nor the long continental aged 1990 c<>H... so my expectations weren't very high. But somehow I quite like it. Up front a lot of fruit from the LROK with the fine finish of the C<>H... I like it in combination. But I don't need a bottle. It pinches a bit up front.

An exciting experiment. While LROK has always left me pretty cold, C<>H always makes me curious. Blind, I probably wouldn’t place this release in either camp. While, at least knowing that these marks are somehow in this release, you find hints of both marks, the end result is surprising and ambiguous. Unfortunately, for me, this release is dominated by both a sour note and a quite present bitterness. While the former almost feels like a flaw to me, the bitterness especially surprises me. While old Hampdens seem to resist barrel influences compared to other rums, this one seems to have taken on quite a bit of bitter substances. Could this be due to the comparatively low ester content compared to the higher C<>Hs or HGMLs known from the 80s and 90s? All in all still an “okay” release, but somehow quite far from the Hampden top...

Pleasant LROK-Hampden that already shows recognizable signs of relatively long maturation. The tropical fruits are clearly recognizable, but are harmoniously flanked by the wood and spice notes. I am still not the biggest fan of the Marques, but the quality of the release is undisputed.

Unfortunately did not convince me, although the alcohol is top integrated and at the beginning you have a slight sweetness and pleasant fruit notes. Also some marzipan. However, the rum quickly changes and goes into bitter and woody notes. Unfortunately, that overlays too much.

Great nose with a robust and broad aromatic spectrum, tropical fruits with some wood and spice and a subtle smoky note. On the palate much tamer, here the LROK DNA comes through. Not a bad experiment, but not one you absolutely need a bottle of. Still glad to try it thanks to Jörg.

Fruity sweet nose, alcohol is subtly noticeable. On the palate, the fruitiness is somewhat pushed back by more spice and sharpness. A creamy sweetness sets in, you can notice the double cask finish and the 90s cask comes through lightly, making the finish interesting. The LROK mark specifies max. 400gr/hlpa, I’d give this max. 200. It’s definitely not an ester bomb, which is clear, but it offers a nice playground.

The legendary 1990 cask leaves its marks, even if only as a finish. I tried three times before deciding not to buy the bottle. Simply a great piece, with medium esters, a light fruit bomb and totally balanced. Alcohol also nicely integrated, But 170 for 500ml is quite something and in my opinion, it's not quite worth it..

.. Hampden is a distillery producing incredibly fragrant rums. That's why a part of its production is used as a basic raw material for perfumes. I recommend tasting gentle yet incredibly rich-flavored rums older than 20 years, or very young rums with a high ester content called DOK. Don't be afraid of the high alcohol volume ;)
