Most people reach for this as their first proper agricole, and it mostly works: grassy, vegetal notes meet apple, dried fruit, vanilla and a peppery kick from four years in oak. A few tasters find it thin or a touch unbalanced from its youth, and the whisky-like dryness isn't for everyone. But at 43% it's fresh, spicy and easy to keep at home.

A very clean agricultural nose with vegetal, yellow fruit (apple), red fruit and perfectly integrated wood. The palate is an extension of the nose, with aromas lurking and then slowly fading. A peppery edge adds complexity without detracting from the overall picture. The finish is moderately long, balanced and easy. A rum to be warmly recommended as an introduction to agricultural rums.

Just like the XO it’s more or less a perfect entry to a tour in the Agricole world. Tasted this one at a rum cruise when it was included at Ian Burrell’s “Blindtaste” Master class. It was quite easy to get it right, cause it was the only Agricole included. The picture shows the included rums at the blindtaste.

Just another winner in terms of price/quality. I could definitely keep a bottle of this at home. Good vegetal notes with yellow fruit and young woody notes. A good entry-level rum. The finish is medium long.

This agricole offers a good compromise between accessibility and a bit of complexity. I find the contribution of the cask interesting, I find some notes of damp wood. Fruity on the nose. On the palate, peppery, sugar.

I have never been disappointed by this VSOP, and each time I come back to it I find pleasure in it. It is simple, sweet, warm, vanilla, peppery to the nose. The taste is in keeping with it. One of my first premium rums but I still enjoy it.

This rum is rather beautiful in the nose, very pastry and fruity with very marked notes of coconut. I find it very different in the mouth, much drier with its tobacco and cocoa side. The finish is very peppery and vanilla. Nice agricultural rum but with a bitterness that I dislike a little. A good value for money though!

02.10.2016 - 03.10.2016 A great extended weekend with rum friends. This was a nice event and lots of space between the tables. Only problem was the level of English at some of the exhibitors. Here are the rums we tasted at the event itself, nothing truly unique but we had fun. This is the second half of the tastings. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Fresh, wood, light roasted, grass, sugarcane, light caramel, floral. Palate Round, light, wood, floral, spice, pineapple, light caramel, roasted, vegetal. Finish Medium long, warm, wood, roasted burnt, light grass, fruits.

A rum that takes you on a journey from woody to fruity through grilled notes, it's well mixed both on the nose and the taste. A good AOC rum.

This rum has a oaky, caramel, vegetal aroma with some slight ester to it. It’s has a light mouthfeel with a peppery and floral taste that meld together nicely. This transitions nicely to a medium woody and spice finish that maintains that strong peppery note.

Bottle opened, tasting note after 12-15 cl less. 👃 Very beautiful vanilla, elegant woodiness for a 4-year-old, typical Martinican spices (pepper, cinnamon, light clove), fresh fruits on citrus and a childhood fruit paste side (apple, quince, lemon, orange). A nice sweet note on pastry caramel and liquid honey. 😋 Obvious correspondence with the aromas on the nose. Woody, dried fruits and sugarcane. The cask brings back vanilla, soft spices (cinnamon, white pepper) and a slight bitter dark chocolate. The citrus fruits are bitter and dry. Honeyed and floral touch. A straight and balanced mouth. ⛳ The cask brings a slightly smoky woody bitterness, vanilla and spices. We finish on a bit of tobacco leaf, caramelized brown sugar and dried fruits soaked in endemic cane juice. 💡 This VSOP as well as the XO from the same distillery are definitely standards to discover Martinican agricole rums.

A good agricultural rum in the VSOP category, with a nice aromatic palette. Strong woody and spicy notes, especially on pepper and vanilla, which mingle with the fruits. The finish is medium long and dry. An ideal rum to introduce to the agricultural world.

Part of a tasting from February 2021. To me a very mellow agricole and a good entrance into agricole rum. In the nose it has a sweetness and hints of sugarcane, and the taste-notes had hints of dried fruit, wood and an earthy taste

In the nose sweet flowers and wood. The palate is the same. Nice interplay between sweetness/floral and the taste from the cask. Due to its young age it has a bit of an edge, but that's how I prefer rhum agricole.

Very briefly, the nose is reminiscent of Guyana rums, but then the floral Agricole notes dominate with apple and some smoke. In the mouth dry, woody, spicy, sharp. But also chocolaty bitter and subtly caramel sweet. Price for the quality also quite solid.

What impresses me the most is the smell. Every time I smell it, it gets tastier and fruitier, leaning towards apple. On the palate, it's also good and then in the finish, it's unexpectedly very present again. Delicious!

I still have to get used to Agricole Rum, this one seemed well suited for that. Unfortunately it still isn't my thing. The dryness and the vegetal notes remind me more of whisky and are not what I imagine a tasty rum to be.

The nose is dominated by the smell of wood and disinfectant, accompanied by a hint of vanilla. In the glass, the rum has the color of a light golden yellow. On the tongue, the rum is watery, has a certain sharpness, with flavor notes of cinnamon, apricot, and wood. On the finish, apricot, cinnamon, and some cane sugar again.

Pleasantly fresh due to the green notes (bell pepper, grass). Barrel notes are well integrated. Spicy with chili and pepper notes. All in all a complex and well balanced rum punching over its pricetag.

Anyone wanting to get a taste of Agricole, especially from Martinique, will find it here. At 43% ABV, it's quite light and very well balanced. All in all, it's very smooth. However, this also makes it feel a bit watery and it lacks some body. But that shouldn't diminish its value. It definitely has its place. A nice, smooth, light spirit from Martinique.

At the same time grassy and fruity (apricot) notes. Wonderfully oily in the mouth, as well as fresh, with a rather long, velvety finish ending gently with a touch of licorice. Surprisingly complex and rich notes on the nose and palate.

My first rum! I start this journey with an agricole... what can I say... on the nose I perceived vanilla, caramel, wood. On the palate it's powerful, peppery but also sweet and toasted. The medium/long finish leaves a nice sensation. My score, a 7, for now I have no comparison parameters but I can call it an interesting start! Continuing with the tasting I managed to perceive on the nose a kind of wood smokiness, notes of candies, leather, even cherries. On the palate the sweetness of caramel but also a bitter herbal touch and a slightly salty finish. What more to say other than that as my first rum, I was well advised!

Exciting. Smells sweet, vanilla, caramel. Spices mingle. On the palate first sweet, vanilla and light fruit. A pleasantly peppery sharpness. Then comes a solid barrel note which lingers long. Woody, leather/tobacco. The finish leaves a nutty note.

Good introduction to the world of Agricole and Martinique. Nice play of aromas that definitely invites you to explore. The light aging and the alcohol content, which is quite manageable for Agricole standards, make it quite accessible. Recommended.

Quite strong, lots of oomph when you drink it, stings a bit on the tongue and dries out the mouth, and after a while the flavors open up. Complex flavors and it makes you dry. The aged fruit, raisins.

Decent dose of cognac here and comes around nice. I get potpourri, tanned leather and booze. Dark clear copper pour. Spicy booze tinge sticks with you, not much sweetness here.
