"Amazing in every way," one taster called it, and the people who love this old Uitvlugt point to the same things: old varnished wood, prunes and dried fruit, milk chocolate, a mineral pencil-shavings edge and green pepper. It sits on the dry, slightly bitter side rather than sweet, with the 33 years and 51.8% ABV nicely integrated. Balanced and mature, not a power bomb.

Wow wow wow. What a bullet!!! Thank you Sascha for digging it out of the depths of your warehouse. I regret having squandered this one! I should have kept a lot more of this good stuff! The price is a bit steep, but compared to other prices for some rums it's still a bargain.

#4865 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Fresh, fruity, wood, workshop, light earthy, light chocolate, vanilla, light anise, light raisin, faint varnish. Palate Balanced, wood, light roasted, fruits, light banana, dried fruit, faint chocolate, light anise, light oily, workshop, faint medicinal. Finish Medium to long, wood, light roasted, faint tobacco, dried fruit, light chocolate, light licorice. Pretty good release with well integrated ABV and wood.

A rum tasted at Whisky Live in Paris in 2024. Lots of dark notes with old varnished wood, but plenty of expressiveness too. The palate is woody, but here dried fruit is added to prunes. The finish is long on varnished wood and prunes. A fine rum, as is often the case with Sponge.

Uitvlugt with a calm, mature profile. Wood, herbs, a bit of wax, and a subtle fruit note. Soft and well-balanced on the palate with oak, spices, and a fine, slightly bitter touch. Feels composed and elegant, focused more on balance than power. Nicely aged.

Exciting, very good rum! At first a bit bitter, astringent, then slightly fruity, pencil, with a somewhat bitter finish again. The alcohol is well integrated, nice complexity. It reminds me of an Enmore MEV 1990 like from Rum Artesanal or Our Rum & Spirits, so Versailles, with a finish almost like KFM. Uitvlugt is on the label, so Port Mourant – I would rather exclude that. It has no herbal PM notes.

🟪 Rum Sponge No. 26 – Uitvlugt 1990 – 51.8% Enjoyed tasting this juice again which had already caught my eye at the last Whisky Live... and it's still just as crazy! This old wood, varnished, very expressive, wrapped in prunes and dried fruits, offers a superb length. Typically the kind of rum I love.

A very nice Guyana rum that is more on the dry and bitter side. Despite the long ageing period, the wood influences are not too extreme. Medium-long finish with spicy and earthy influences.

Uitvlugt 1990 basically promises quality. Same here: citrus fruits meet expressive spice and wood notes with nicely integrated anise, mineral pencil notes, and green pepper, plus a pleasantly light caramel sweetness. Appealing, but not quite on par with the greats of the vintage.

A very special rum, amazing in every way. Nose: pleasant, very accessible, floral, vanilla, reminiscent of a Scotch whisky (Scapa) but more complex and interesting to my taste, Mouth: sweet, a very pleasant subtle hint of varnish, ripe fruit, a touch of wood, very oily and pleasant to the palate, Finish: long, very pleasant, feels very balanced after a period of 33 years in a barrel, an amazing rum, I really liked it, and perfect with a Cuban cigar.
