Cadenhead‘s Classic Rum Special Edition
Funny thing about this Cadenhead's blend: people keep saying it drinks like liquid candy, then catch themselves because it's also dark, dry and heavy. Tobacco, raisin, dark chocolate, coffee and warm toffee, with rubber and ester poking through. The Guyana component dominates hard — some love that, others wish the Jamaica and Panama got more room. At 50% the heat sits well integrated.

Dark, dry blend dominated by Guyana Most find it a tasty, dark blend at a fair strength — intense but balanced. The recurring gripe: Guyana runs the show so heavily that the rest of the blend barely speaks.

Cadenhead’s s’en sort bien avec cet assemblage de leur gamme permanente. Le nez passe d’un côté esterisé sur la Jamaïque, à un peu de rondeur du Panama, puis à pas mal d’influence sombre de Guyana : les dates, le chocolat noir, le café et les épices (réglisse) ne s’y trompent pas. Il y a comme une note de beurre de cacahuètes également, assez étrange mais pas désagréable. Une fois en bouche, on a la sensation de boire un bonbon liquide. Tabac, toffee, mélasse et caramel chaud se joignent aux notes sombres précédemment décrites pour donner un mélange de saveurs qui se veut gouleyant et onctueux au palais. L’alcool est bien intégré, mais quelques degrés supplémentaires auraient permis de corser un peu le jus, qui pourrait s’y méprendre avec une eau-de-vie de fruits. La finale est de longueur correcte, chaude et bien épicée. Le côté rôti, caféiné et chocolaté (noir) ressort davantage avec l’alcool. Dommage que la Guyana demeure ultra dominante et ne laisse pas un peu plus le blend s’exprimer, car il aurait pu gagner en palette aromatique et en complexité. Il n’en reste pas moins un bon rhum facile d’approche dans le style britannique.
