Interesting rum! Guadeloupe would never have come up in a blind tasting. A sherry note in the background and the sharpness of the not perfectly integrated alcohol accompany you from the beginning to the end. It opens up a bit more of the agricole side and helps with the sharpness, if you‘ll add some drops of water.

Both rums are very barrel-heavy as expected. If you can look past that, you'll enjoy both. The sherry is woodier, more bitter, and the alcohol is less well integrated. The Madeira is sweeter, more aromatic, and more pleasing on the palate. Not much left from Guadeloupe here, but definitely suitable as craft-made dessert rums.

Tasted at the Pueblo del Ron Nuremberg 2024. As nice as the guys from Romdeluxe are, I have to say here, as with their Distillery Edition from Guadeloupe, that was probably nothing. Here, too, the finish is far too dominant for me. Sorry. Edit: Tasted it again at home in peace and quiet, I don't warm to it at all. A little bit better than the Distillery Edition, but not much. Edit: the ultimate CubaLibre test. It's really amazing here too, the finish stands out completely. So definitely not suitable for me as a mixer either

Sample bottle: First impression confirmed, nice grassy Agricole, alcohol is a bit too present, so minimal deduction -1. Pere Labat with the typical green grassy note comes through well on the nose. With some time, the sherry cask influence strengthens, which is also clearly present on the palate. However, it fits together relatively well and results in a well-drinkable Agricole with good power.

Intense and intriguing on the nose. On the palate, however, the Olorosso finish is much too intense and dominating for my personal liking. While the profile of the Poisson is detectable on the nose, unfortunately, on the palate it is quite blurred due to the finish.

First of all again: Big thanks to Jörg (Zabo) for the split and the bottle 🙏🏻. The so-called 2nd splitter is in the glass. Yes, the sherry note is consistently present, but unlike the Hampden sherry finishes, I don't find it disturbing here. The vegetal-grassy aromas (also consistently present) harmonize quite well in my opinion, although it seems a bit too sweet for me (which is not really my thing). The alcohol is well integrated. Conclusion: I can understand if some don't like it at all. It is quite special. For me, it works.

Very unbalanced, not my taste profile. Overall really boring and not well balanced. One sample was definitely enough. A bit of sherry cask influence leads to the many edges being smoothed out a bit.

What exactly is this? Planty-green, somehow musty on the nose and sharp on the palate, but not or not only from the alcohol. The sherry influence is not sweet-dominant as usual, but somehow I don’t like it anyway. Overall, I just like the molasses rums from Guadeloupe better!

I don't find the finish impact as intense as some others. The nose reminds me a lot of the 59er with a bit more towards red fruits. On the palate also grassy-meaty like the white brother with the additional fruit note but also some mustiness from the finish. The alcohol feels strangely scratchier at about 3% more than the unaged counterpart.

So I really like the nose. It's very fresh and fruity. Some wood and lots of cherry are recognizable. On the palate it then drops off significantly. Still fruity, you can recognize sherry, also some wood. Intense stuff, too intense in my opinion.

The start is fruity, woody and sherry-like. I also perceive a bit of honey. On the palate then slightly roasted and somehow a vegetal note. Finish with herbs and a bit of chocolate. The nose promises more than what actually comes through in the glass. Nice to have tried.

At first a sharp alcohol on the nose, then typical agricole aromas, fruity (but hard to pinpoint which fruits), woody, Palate: hmm, yes it's agricole but this is a terrain with little experience, lots of cask, still alcoholic sharp and peppery, Alcohol 60-65% Aftertaste: lots of oak (bitter) and spice I quite like it but the bitterness (French oak?) is already too much for me. I won't dare a tip today, would just be a shot in the dark. Resolution: ok, mostly right, alcohol content fits, I would have guessed older age, didn't recognize Cognac and sherry cask, nice rum, haven't had agricole for a long time

The initial dominance of the sherry cask can be penetrated by thorough chewing to finally encounter the vegetal, herbal agricole side. Unfortunately, you also have to accept some alcoholic sharpness. In the dry aftertaste, the base maturation in the cognac cask shows subtly. A bit rough, but good.

This Guadeloupe with Oloroso finish today goes up against his brother RX18758 from the Cognac and Madeira cask. On the nose still quite reserved. On the palate then primarily the Oloroso finish and somewhat sharp alcohol, behind that the Agricole DNA. In pure form it also shows itself somewhat reserved on the palate, a little water helps it to stand up and unfold. Still, for me it doesn't match his big brother RX18758, for my taste it is simply not round and complex enough. With the latter, for my taste, the (strong) cask influence and the Agricole DNA harmonize just a good deal better.

On the nose: heavy sherry, not much else. On the palate: heavy sherry, grassy vegetal notes, imbalanced alcohol. On the finish: heavy sherry, grass, alcohol. No idea who got the idea of this sherry finish, but this is not working. At all.

Very lively alcohol quite present even after a few minutes of aeration, the woodiness comes next, warm and damp wood, you can still recognize the Guadeloupean fruitiness with a certain astringency despite everything. For me this rum deserved a more significant reduction.

Phew, that was a shot in the dark. The finish is so dominant that you can assume a wet, fresh sherry cask was filled with the still young rum. The influences are very overpowering, the alcohol very sharp in the foreground - not my world at all.
