The gentle 43% makes it an easy sipper, though one taster met "pretty sweet" edges and sharp alcohol up front before the wood settled in. Pleasant rather than deep.

Yeah, you can really bring this one well, especially the fairly low ABV makes it an easy sipper. Taste-wise we have here, besides some wood, a lot of roastiness and vanilla as well as a chunk of caramel.

On the nose rather unspectacular: woody-smoky oak. On the palate you are greeted by sharp alcohol, then oak, chocolate and a woody-smoky aroma come through. I expected a bit more complexity, but this rum is not bad.
