Damoiseau 1991

Prune, licorice and dark chocolate lead here, with leather, espresso and roasted oak stacked behind them. This is a heavy, tropical-aged Guadeloupe agricole that drinks nothing like a fresh grassy one — several tasters even mistook it for an old Demerara. The 54.4% is well integrated, but the wood is loud and a medicinal, bitter edge runs through it. One member calls it "réservé aux spécialistes" — for a reason.

The community says

Full round nose. Woody and spicy with dark dried fruits. Prune and dried orange peel. Leather and vanilla and chocolate are beautifully woven in. Something fresh and tart like currant comes in. Deliciously spicy and woody again on the palate. Licorice at first, then some date and prune. Salty and slightly bitter it seems. Something sweet towards caramel is caught up by something spicy, peppery. It remains slightly bitter in the finish. At the back then comes licorice, the grassy sugar cane and even some mint. The age and ABV suit him well.

This one is not as potent as its predecessor, but still pretty good. The nose is woody with fruits and candied vanilla. Trailing behind i find licorice and some vegetal and earthy notes. The palate is full bodied with wood and fruit followed by molasses, vanilla and licorice. I also find some vegetal and medicinal notes. The finish is medium to long with wood and dried fruit trailed by vanilla and licorice.

Powerful old rum nose, like Negrita (sorry!) but so aromatic! On the palate, however, it's very atypical, medicated, almost bitter, but with a very old rum finish of leather, vanilla and wood! For specialists only!

Really heavy nose with dark fruit - cherry in particular stands out. Toasty, slightly bitter, yet fruity. Great mouthfeel with a pleasant, natural sweetness. I really like it!

A very heavy Agricole, reminiscent of a tropically ripened Demerara. Cassis and red fruits.
