Apricot leads, backed by vanilla and a cognac note that clings right through the finish — this Vietnamese cane-juice rum spent four years in cognac casks and you can tell. Several tasters love how fruity and easy it drinks; a couple feel the cask overshadows the rum itself and wish the palate had more length. Pleasant either way, if a touch tame.

Salon Dugas. If I liked the little 3-year-old, the 6-year-old is clearly to my taste. Very fruity, with apricot notes, strong tannins and light coffee notes. Top-notch! All in all, I've been impressed by all Sampan's new releases: they're working hard, and it's paying off. The best is surely yet to come from the Indochine (Vietnam) distillery.

#6678 22.04.2026 Relaxing with a few evening samples while watching Body Cam on Max. Also a rum with a nice price tag and you get something for your money. The profile has a lot of vanilla in thr fruit and herbs.

So for me, the Cognac cask dominates here, somehow the rum is missing. Otherwise a quite fruity nose, especially apricot, on the palate also fruity, also some vanilla and a bit of wood.

The Sampan cognac cask is one of the best cognac finishes I've had so far, admittedly I haven't had that many yet, but here you can really taste the cognac note nicely, lots of raisin, light fruit and dark wood. The alcohol bites slightly.

It's been sitting for a long time. The aroma is more fresh than the cognac porto bottle, but still nicely fruity with vanilla. Flavour is mild vanilla with fruit and green notes. The finish is again vanilla with cognac. Could be a bit more bold, but on the other hand it's nicely drinkable.
