Savanna fans who've been wary of port finishes tend to make peace with this one. The port sits alongside the estery Grand Arôme base — red fruit, sour cherry, prune and a menthol-cough-drop lift — rather than smothering it. At 57% it floods the mouth, oily and warming, into a smoky, peppery finish. The recurring gripe: the oak can turn drying and bitter if you sit with it.

12.09.2025 Retasting and I still like it a lot. ------------------- 04.10.2019 A lovely evening with a friend. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Fresh, light roasted wood, pineapple, overripe, light glue, light caramel, anise. Palate Round, fresh, light wood, anise, berries, light glue, balanced. Finish Medium long, light wood, anise, light glue, faint caramel, light cherry. Extra note Needs to rest for a good while to release its full potential.

Just that there is no doubt I tasted many Savanna, and many Grand Arôme and was never disappointed. You clearly smell the port cask, it's not a problem even if that's not my favorite Finnish. But the taste... For me, it's just off. There's something really not pleasant. And the longer the time pasts, the worst it gets... there's no end to it. Maybe it was the sample I received.

With a Savanna with Port Finish like this, I can somewhat cure my aversion to this finish. Here it fits in well without being disturbing. However, for a higher rating, the bottling is too woody & bitter for me.

Mega nose of sour cherry, a bit of vinegar, spices and port wine. Relatively fresh on the palate, spicy, sweet and sour with eucalyptus, sour cherry, coffee, wood and a bit of cocoa. The vinegar note personally bothers me a bit, but then a full blast of menthol Wick candy comes through, which brings it back!

Also on the second try: great on the nose, initially also in the mouth. Until the wood influence, which is much too strong for my personal taste, ruins it again. I have to lower the overall impression a bit. Maybe the younger version of the Porto Cask is better here.

Super fruity on the nose. Grand Arôme clearly noticeable... not overwhelmed by the port, great. On the palate... Oily and full of power, it floods the mouth, light esters and cherry plum. Nice sweetness. Very tasty... best Port Finish Savanna, actually generally the best rum with Port Finish. Delicious 😊

Sour and just low Savanna taste. You feel it just in the end Rumy z destilerie Savanna jsou jedny z mych nejoblibenejsich. Doporucuji kazdemu vyzkouset zejmena vuce esterove kousky jako je Grand arome nebo HERR. Tolik ovoce v nekolika malo kapkach tekutiny jste dlouho necitili.

Color: Mahogany Aroma: Sweet, aromatic and fruity with unmistakable sweet port wine. Also esters and solvents. Prunes, with some toffee emerging with time. Taste: Sweet and fruity in the mouth with toffee. Spicy hot when swallowed, then toffee, liquorice and port wine. Finish: Medium length. Spicy, peppery and hot with liquorice. Dry aftertaste, like black tea. 87 points

Nose quite pleasant, typical of Savanna with cherries, ripe red fruits, you can quite easily recognize the port after a few minutes of aeration which immediately brings barrel notes. The attack on the palate is great on the port and fruits, bitter cherry and caramel, woody and a harsh side quickly felt which can be disturbing. The finish is very long on wood and coffee. Woody choice not disturbing because the mastery of the port prevails.
