The alcohol is surprisingly well-tucked for 62%, but the finish turns woody and a touch bitter, showing its age. A splash of water rounds it off. Several tasters also called it a fun Mai Tai rum.

#5043 10.01.2025 Enjoying some samples at home. Nose Medium intense, light wood, fruity, overripe, banana, spice, light glue, light ester. Palate Warm, round, balanced, light wood, faint smoke, fruity, overripe, light floral, light glue, light banana, medium spicy, spice. Finish Long and warm, light wood, fruits, light citrus, medium spicy. The empty glass has nice fruit, faint chocolate, light floral and light citrus notes. Needs to rest for a good while to really open up properly.

It comes across a little rough... Quite a lot of spice and complexity for its young age. Fruity and funky. Nothing earth-shattering but still good and solid for the price. Absolutely delicious in Mai Tai and a little surprise.

Pleasantly surprised on the nose. This is much more balanced than I expected given the low age. Very nice hints of marzipan and honey alongside quite some intense tropical fruits. Yet there are also some herbs and a solid pinch of chemical notes like glue and nailpolish. On the palate it also starts of quite nice and approachable with wood, fruits and bit of ester-ey goodness. Towards the finish, however, it does show its young(er) age with some harshness and a very woody and bitter finish, missing out on the decent complexity from the start. Positively surprised by this one, overall.

Franconian Tasting Gang on 19.04.2024 In the next unequal battle, two STC♡E of TWJ2015 and the top dog Cambridge 2005 (13yr) compete. Unfortunately, there is a clear difference in color, taste and intensity. But the TWJ still has a certain charm.

Arrived today (many thanks to Dr. Django) and tasted it straight away. And I have to say, it's fun. On the nose it is pleasantly fermented and fruity with a slightly sweet ester. It is smooth on the palate (the alcohol is well integrated) and initially releases sweet fruity aromas. These then change to a slightly woody, spicy side. The finish is of medium length. Compared to the older bottlings, it lacks a little of the complexity to be at the very top. Nevertheless, it remains a great bottling!

Large slow-moving tears form on the glass wall. The nose is initially alcoholic, with lots of nail polish and glue. Behind or rather beneath that, fruity esters. I can sense a slight similarity to longer-aged Long Pond bottlings. On the palate, more Long Pond DNA shows up in the form of umami notes. The finish is less complex but still good. A very good young, intense Long Pond that benefits from a long resting time before enjoyment and, in my opinion, was bottled too early.

First release from 2015 from Long Pond according to the database then: On the nose very promising lots of marzipan, esters, we have passion fruit and also some herbs in the background. On the palate what stands out is how soft this rum is, which makes it dangerously easy to drink and at the same time a successful sipper. The finish gets a bit too bitter. But overall a very good debut for the vintage.

Gorgeous funky LP Jamica feeling🤤 I‘m loving it😍 Thanks to Banana Joe for this cool sample. Here you get a young jamaica Rum will all the lovely high ester, fruit, marzipan, glue and nail polish notes, pickling with some oak chips.

A relatively young Long Pond in which the alcohol is excellently integrated! It does what it should and I don't expect much more here. Funky Jamaican with tropical fruits, very intense and astringent on the palate, but never unpleasantly spicy.

Delicious rum, but far from the obscene richness of the tropical-aged NRJ STCEs. Still, a nice nose with vanilla, tropical fruits, and solvents. Not bad on the palate either... but as I said... rather disappointing compared to the NRJs.

The nose brings a lot of ester and glue, plus some vanilla, caramel and overripe/fermented tropical fruit. The palate also has esters, some glue and tropical fruit. Could have stayed in the barrel a little longer for my taste.

This rather young Long Pond brings the taste receptors to full speed with a decent ester load. The somewhat too fresh, roasted oak provides some bitterness with its tannins, but these hardly manage to spoil the fun in the glass.

This rather young Long Pond brings the taste receptors to full throttle with a solid ester load. The somewhat too fresh, roasted oak provides some bitterness with its tannins, but they hardly spoil the fun in the glass.

Tasting at Limoges Spirits Festival 2025. 👃 Slap of overripe and fermented fruits! All supported by trigeminal esters (glues, varnishes, solvents). Notes of almond paste and soft vanilla. 😋 Classic LP esters define a fruity, intense and quite astringent funk. Quite a bit of alcoholic sensation, fruity bitterness, vanilla sweetness and almond paste. ⛳ Very long, esterified, bitter, fruity, tannic, rooty. 💡 I like this kind of young Long Pond, even if with a few more years the wood brings more body and balance.

Banana and nail polish on the nose. Then also on the palate, and slightly fleshy. A little water does it a lot of good, opening it up noticeably and making it pleasant to drink. Unfortunately, the finish is still a little sharp and not particularly long. Nevertheless, for me it's a tasty piece that surprised me positively, as the STC<3E profile is not really my thing. The sample is enough for me personally though, I don't need a whole bottle of this.

Awesome, Long Pond, but it can't quite meet the expectations. On the nose light tropical fruits, otherwise nail polish, glue and esters. On the palate also very chemical, again nail polish, esters and tropical fruits.

Franconian Rum Tasting Gang 04/19/2024 The TWJ was tasted together with the STCEs from NRJ (yes, not entirely fair). The TWJ is already visually much lighter, and this impression continues on the nose and palate. However, despite its young age, it is a very delicious, uncomplicated rum.

Fruity sweet fermented overripe fruits on the nose. On the palate, the ester comes through. There's a certain complexity, but unfortunately not very deep. The finish has a certain sharp note. Confirmed in the night tasting.

I tasted this blind and the nose immediately reminded me of the 2001 LPS from Long Pond. It was probably just a coincidence that I was right about Long Pond. But it's a really great rum. Nice ester and marzipan, plus well-integrated alcohol, makes it enjoyable.

One of the younger Long Ponds I've had so far and, like the one from Habitation, pleasantly surprised me. Balanced fruity nose with notes of nail polish remover. On the palate balanced, fruity, just technical enough and pleasantly warming.

Gentle aroma of esters, red fruit. No blast to the nose like with unaged STCE. But after sipping, the esters make themselves known. The body is a bit wilder. Continental aging? I like the finish though. Would like another pour 😀

Color light straw. The nose with a full load of esters. Fruity esters, plus solvent, already a certain acidity in the nose. High ester indeed. I smell pineapple, banana, but everything so intense that it's hard to differentiate. On the palate wild and funky with acidic notes. Lots of esters. Everything very dense and lingering long on the palate. Noticeable ABV, but somehow fitting the wilder style. Then of course with a long finish on the palate aromas. With air, everything becomes, as usual, rounder and more moderate. So you can choose the timing according to your own preferences... Compared to the other Long Pond variants tasted at the same time (RX25855 and RX15420), due to the significantly higher ester content, a very different profile and something for everyone who likes the high ester variants of the island.

There is a hint of LP in the aroma, but the taste is too sharp and alcoholic for me. It's a young 7-year-old rum. It could do with more years. Still, it's an excellent dram, but I'm used to something different from LP. It lacks the typical aftertaste of a tropical LP where there is rubber, asphalt. Nothing here.

An interesting funky ester rum so intense and fresh. On the nose nicely round and intense with tropical fruits like pineapple and passion fruit, funky and lots of ester - vanilla and young wood. On the palate follows very strong intense lots of ester and young woody. Very nice tropical maturation. This rum surprised me very positively. The finish is nicely long, intense, warm, fruity.

This rum offers quite the phenominal nose pulling you in with an unreal blend of sweet tropical fruits while challenging the pallet with bitter notes of grapefruit zest, pimento and cardamom, as well as heavy wafts of nail polish. There is a tiny hint of vinegar that disappears over time, but this is the type of glass you could nose for ages. In the mouth less explosive fruits and much more linear, leaning heavily into wood, cask spice and over-steeped black tea with only a little banana and passionfruit on the side. Reasonably bitter for such a young Jamaican, and with a light alcohol snap*. Has this seen virgin oak? In any case, the cask imparted a lot of its flavour. The finish is short and dry and a little uneventful as a result of the cask influence. *The bottler advised not drinking this at full strength and they were right. Upon opening the spirit had a huge alcohol bite that luckily settled over time. Bottle age and a drop of water does the trick here.

Very pleasant nose, and the high abv delivers an enjoyable fruity sweet punch on the palate. After that it’s falling off a bit. Not that complex to me and a rather unspectacular finish. Over all a decent drink. As mentioned elsewhere likely nice in cocktails.

Vanilla, a little glue. Some papaya. Pours golden. Mouth brings burnt tire, light banana, hot pepper. Pretty nice. Almost as good as the ITP Long Pond I had yesterday from Rest and Be Thankful, 1998. Medium finish. Bottle split thanks to xamsx.

08/02/25: Tasted alongside 6 other Long Ponds. In direct comparison with the other bottles I tasted, this one didn't wow me. It's pleasant both on the nose and on the palate, but nothing spectacular. I don't need a full bottle.

It doesn't particularly stand out, but there's nothing to complain about either. A subtle but very fine rum, with a very balanced and pleasant "banana-ness." Unfortunately, its presence is a bit short.

A long pond that leaves you somewhat perplexed. Only a little fruit present, with a bitter note in the finish at first. Over time, the esters pick up speed and remain in the mouth for a long time. With further sips, the rum becomes very astringent, clear notes of cardboard emerge, one has the feeling that a piece of cardboard is hanging on the palate. A strange mixture that has its moments, but leaves you perplexed.
