The first time I drank this rum was in Cuba with a Montecristo No. 4, and it was one of the best experiences in Cuba. The locals recommended this combination to me, and what can I say, the rum is made to be enjoyed with a Cuban cigar. The round flavor with the initial sweetness and the woody finish is simply a dream.

Blind tasting competition. I don't know what the guys are talking about here in the notes. It's a very sweet rum. A bit orangey. Lots of sugar. Brown sugar. Caramel. Honey. Well, maybe for cigar lovers. Very weak in the mouth. What you do feel here is nothing artificial, and that's a bonus. Very average but passes the test.

Overall an OK rum from the SdC distillery, part of the Cuba Ron S.A. is aged for 12 years in old oak barrels and bottled without additives. It’s a little above average, but doesn’t really match their 11 year release. The nose is woody and fruity with lots of aroma of vanilla. At the palate and during the medium long finish it’s well balanced, woody, roasted, fruity, nutty with some spiciness and sweetness and flavors of plum, coffee and vanilla.

7,8:On the nose, the vanilla is lively and sparkling.On the contrary, there's a certain perfumed lightness here, further underlined by a fine, toasty woodiness and a certain fruity depth. Aeration brings a darker hue to the aromatic palette, with tannins of red and black fruits, and a woodiness with melted tannins, both green and deep. A fuller-bodied, yet balanced character is revealed. 7.7:On the palate, the characteristic balance of Cuban rums takes shape, with ripe, sweet mirabelle plum fruit expressing itself in a soft bubble. Then come toasted wood and caramelized nuts, with nuances of coffee, maple syrup and sweet spices. 7,3:The finish is dry, sweet and roasted, smoky, with vanilla gradually settling on the palate...

Not really my cup of tea. Very sweet and fruity with some wood. Very good in mixers though and I also used it for baking as well (Chocolate Rum Raisin Cake).

A completely normal average rum that goes down the throat well. Can be enjoyed neat or mixed for cocktails. Nothing special but also not a rum I wouldn't advise against.

It's typically Cuban on the nose. How can I explain...vanilla and stone fruit, caramel, spices and overall very soft on the palate. But it's very sweet, to the point it makes me suspect there is added sugar (even if there is none). It doesn't have the dryness and sophistication of other column still rums that I enjoy. But at 40% it's satisfying to drinks as opposed to sip. Enjoyable but not profound.

Hmm, I had pretty high expectations since I really like the 8, and the 11 is quite special with its distinct coffee note. The 12 is once again an example that (too) long aging isn't necessarily always better - it's too woody / dry / slightly bitter for me. Quite similar to the Arehucas 12 Seleccion Familiar. Drinks: - Neat: 2.5/5 - Rum Cola: 3/5

Nose still marked by rose, sake, I don't understand! Maybe chocolate but like in a chocolate shop... slightly alcoholic mouth and this floral presence that persists and this taste of sake. Finish that warms the esophagus.
