This is an aged Guadeloupe agricole from Bologne, and it drinks smooth and elegant rather than grassy — one taster said it reminded them of whisky. A great Rhum that’s very smooth and elegant on the palate and during the finish. The only negative is that the nose is a little weak. The nose is spicy and woody with aromas of sugarcane. At the palate and during the rather long finish it’s also spicy and woody but also floral, complex and very smooth with flavors of dried fruit.

This is a really nice and very complex rum and I'm happy having it on my shelf. The nose is sweet (honey) and a bit alcoholic with spices and orange topped with cocoa/chocolate and wood. The palate is well balanced and complex, fruity with spices and oak. There is a slight floral not there as well. The finish is long and fruity with vanilla and oak.

Bologne XO – 42% In 1775, Guadeloupe had more than 70 distilleries. Today, only six remain (nine if including those of Marie-Galante). Bologne: Founded in 1887, Bologne highlights its unique terroir: nearly 150 hectares located between sea and mountain. Its sixty plots, spread between Capesterre and Saint-Claude, shelter the famous black cane, cultivated only by Bologne in Guadeloupe and used in all its rums. Very aromatic but low-yielding, this variety was abandoned by other distilleries. Another peculiarity: distillation is done at 55–60% vol., which limits the extraction of grassy notes from the cane. The aged rums rest exclusively in former cognac or armagnac casks. The Bologne XO is a blend of rums aged from 6 to over 10 years, bottled in an elegant decanter at 42%. A pleasant, soft, and delicate rum, enjoyed with pleasure but whose complexity remains behind compared to previous ones. A beautiful product but not necessarily memorable.

Tasted in sample. Complex and beautiful rum. It surprised me. On the nose besides the usual aromas given by the wood of the barrel, you can smell licorice, dried fruit and raisins. All balanced and integrated. Beautiful. The sip is even more complex with dark notes of cocoa but not oppressive, very pleasant. Maybe I would have preferred a bit more alcohol but it's very good like this.

Very pleasant rum with fine smoke/vanilla/wood and smoky notes. Not insanely complex, but still not superficial. Pleasant drinking strength without feeling thin. Slight menthol in the finish, but clearly less than TDL. Fun to drink.
