Best sipped neat with a little air in the glass. This 13-year Appleton from Rum Shark leans spice-forward on the nose, with tropical fruit and a touch of oak coming through on the palate. One taster called it "semi mild" but found the technical side a lot; another liked the "typical Appleton background." Not especially complex, and the 58.4% can read hot.

And then there were four times Rum Shark. Here an Appleton. Not really complex this rum. Mostly spices on the nose and palate, tropical fruits are also noticeable, on the palate also some wood.

Jamaica without Hampden Tasting: noticeably fruitier on the palate than on the nose. Also lots of spices, but not very complex. Alcohol well integrated. Probably needs to rest a bit longer to fully develop.

The nose is beautifully bourbon-like, exceptionally well done, but the alcohol isn't very well integrated on the palate.
