A rum tasted at the Rhum Fest in 2024 and at the Masterclass for RumX 2024. A nose that vacillates between dark, woody, spicy, very lightly tarred and fruity (pear) and vegetal. The freshness is perhaps a little lacking. The palate is fruity with spices, wood and less vegetal than on the nose. The finish is rather short on yellow fruit and citrus. Spices and a hint of tar at the very end. The empty glass is beautiful.

Beautiful packaging, moderate rum: alcoholic, herbal, medicinal nose. The taste is a continuation of the nose: alcohol is poorly integrated, the whole thing tastes of sharp herbal sweets, then some sweetness at the end (probably from the cask). For me, even worse than the first Art bottling, which was already not particularly good.

Very alcoholic nose, which does not bode well. But then quite nice on the palate. Very round, well-balanced rum. Hardly any characteristics. Some apple, some hazelnut, some vanilla. Hardly any depth. Light sipper without much pretension. Unfortunately too expensive for that, even if the rum has its raison d'être.

Edit: Even on the second try, unfortunately, it didn't really convince me. Unfortunately, this Savanna is a disappointment for me. The prettiest thing seems to be the label after all. Overall, I would describe it as a mix of herbal tea with neutral alcohol, which is very thin and has a very short finish. Nothing that really stays in memory.

Nice and sweet on the nose after an initial mismatch, smell of ripe grapes. The palate is then relatively sober, i.e. dry, I miss the fruitiness. The rum quickly runs out of steam on the finish. Category: Unspectacular easy sipper.

Thanks to the RumX Team for this great opportunity!! Unfortunately, I missed the only tasting due a delayed flight… This one took the last place in my tasting, but this doesn‘t mean it‘s a bad rum… What I really liked here is the tar note and overwhelming floral notes!

7,5:On the nose, the first impression we get is vegetal, then woody with roasted notes like nuts, leather.At first, fruits are quite tamed, so is a sugarcane, revealing later. Certainly it is spicy with pepper and flowery. On aeration, the rum is grassy, there is some tea, obviously fruits are dried and citrus, some caramel could be also found, when resting passes.It becomes a bit smoky... 7,6:On the palate, tha attack is agricole like with spicy, vegetal and flowery sugarcane, the wood is roasted with nuts, leather. The fruits are tropical and yellow, accompanied with a pear.The sugarcane quickly becomes earthy and grassy, waxy, later we taste some hay. Bitterness is inevitable with a bit resinous wood.Resting helps vanilla and honey, herbal notes and tea. 7,6:The finish is medium long, with dry and roasted wood notes, the sugarcane is spicy and earthy, herbaceous, with honey and tea touch, as in the end it could be minty. The fruits are yellow and dried, some pineapple is also present..

Mmh my expectations were low and I was not disappointed. Inconspicuous without recognition value ... A little fruity, herbal and vegetal. Generally quite alcoholic and rough. Nothing you need for the price... Fortunately it stayed with the sample.

12.07.2024 A nice online tasting by Savanna and RumX. Nose Intense, light wood, fruity, light peach, light anise, light mint. Palate Warm, medium spicy, light wood, faint smoke, fruits, faint peach, faint herbs, light floral, medium dry. Finish Medium to long, wood, light herbs, light peach, faint chocolate, medium dry. The empty glass has vegetal, licorice and light metallic notes. Needs to rest for a good while to really open up.

Quite alcoholic from the nose, through the finish, to the aftertaste. With green apples, pears, olives, vegetal, floral. An intrusive sweetness, similar to artificial sugar cane (is that even possible? =D) accompanies the aromas. The finish is very short and burns unpleasantly peppery.

On the nose I had trouble getting into this rum. Light barrel, herbal, vanilla and caramel. The palate is just as soft, almost too much, I recognize a bit more fruit like grape and apricot. Suitable for a wide audience, but price a bit high for this result.

Second edition of the Art of Rhum range, this Savanna aims to be traditional and typical in style. On the nose, you find tropical fruits, citrus, but also woody, spicy, medicinal notes on aromatic herbs and a bit of sweetness on caramel and sugarcane. The nose is quite complete, with a fairly broad aromatic spectrum. The palate profile combines the traditional and agricultural influences of the distillery. The attack on the palate is fruity, followed by herbal and spicy notes. The wood is a bit darker with roasted notes, while the agricultural side stands out with honeyed and juicy sugarcane. The profile is balanced, with well-controlled alcohol at an optimal degree. The finish is well made, with predominant vegetal notes, followed by exotic fruits (pineapple) and dried fruits. The spices hold on the length in the mouth with a hint of sweetness, while a medicinal touch appears on the palate giving a bit of character to this relatively classic profile. A good Savanna, but it lacks a little bit of craziness to stand out.

Very interesting and spicy nose. In addition to beautiful herbal notes, I detect many spicy and woody tones. The palate is again pleasantly spicy and relatively smooth for 54%. The woody, herbal and peppery aromas of the Agricole go hand in hand with vanilla, dried fruit and subtle impressions of honey and propolis. The medium-length finish is pleasantly spicy and is accompanied by wood and cognac, as well as the vegetal freshness of sugar cane juice.

EDIT 2025: Blind tasting: A color close to a beautiful Sauternes, nice tears visually. Promising. On the nose, the noble wood unmistakably from La Réunion, surely Savanna. My neighbor immediately shouts "Foursquare Patrimonio," almost pulling me into his trap, but well, the palate will likely confirm my first impression. Also aromas of cognac, fruits, very pleasant almond. On the palate: no doubt, it's a Savanna, and knowing the range well, it must be Yann Le Gall limited edition or the Absolu 2023. Accompanied by honey, dried apricots, and light spices, it's not heavy, quite indulgent... so quite logical. A balanced finish, aligned with the palate, with a nice length (without being endless). RumX Savanna Masterclass 12.7. The second release of Savanna's Art of Rum series comes with a clearly different profile, no wonder since it mixes Agricole and Trad G parts. A clear floral profile on the nose that you have to like. Continues on the palate but unfortunately becomes slightly sour with some time. Ultimately a good presentation of a different style of the distillery, though for me there is still a lot of room for improvement.

On the nose, I had classic Agricole markers. On the palate, a very unusual profile, and for me therefore awesome. Medicinal notes, chocolate, something burnt, intense, and black sesame.

Mega on the nose. Overripe kiwi, starfruit and other yellow and green fruits. Almost perfumed and at the same time caramelized. On the palate then somewhat milder than expected with pepper and peach iced tea, allspice and citrus fruits. Stays relatively long on the palate with a nice bitterness and sweetness. I find it not so bad contrary to the reviews.

Also a Savanna that's quite okay. On the nose, it comes across as quite alcoholic. Also slightly woody. On the palate, also quite alcoholic. Additionally woody, spicy, and peppery. The alcohol could definitely be better integrated.

Not a bottling that will be remembered for long. Light fruit notes, many herbal notes, herbs, some wood, hardly any sweetness and slightly bitter. Also a rather short finish. Alcohol is okay integrated.

From this distillery, I am used to much better. Interestingly, the nose had a nice allspice note which was unfortunately only very weak and supporting in the taste. Overall, this rum unfortunately tastes like a run-of-the-mill Agricole without any special characteristics.

Woody and fruity with some citrus elements. Then on the palate it goes into tea/herbal direction. Unfortunately, everything fades quite quickly and I find it too alcoholic. I find the price too high for the end product.

Savanna Masterclass July 12, 2024: Nice licorice notes on the nose with a vegetal undertone. Also some kiwi, exciting! On the mouth, it moves nicely between Agricole and molasses. But it has more bite and is more bitter than expected.

Savanna RumX Masterclass with Samuel Pitarch, 2024-07-12: What I like about this rum is that you can taste the two worlds - molasses and agricole - so well. But overall it is quite unspectacular and the alcohol is not well integrated. I quickly poured the VAST alongside and in direct comparison I like the VAST more.

Tasted at Rhum Fest Paris 2024. I definitely love Savanna, but this blend is nothing to be remembered, traditionnel+agricole blend, nice taste but for sure not one of the highlits. All typical Savanna markers are there, but when it's not grand arome it is never great

Caramelly light single nose. Not even too strong. The taste also goes into caramel. But also into wood with herbs. The finish could be a bit longer. Nice Savanna blend. Not bad at all. Comes off a bit worse in the overall rating on the second tasting.

Amber Smell: Fresh, herbal and fruity. Sea buckthorn and tropical fruits, banana and guava. Taste: Creamy and spicy in the mouth. When swallowing strong, tasty, very spicy and peppery, warms from deep inside. Flavors of caramel and toffee, pepper and wood. Finish: Medium length Remains spicy and tasty, warming. Pleasant aftertaste with some caramel, dry and woody.

Tasted in the RumX Masterclass: Blend of three vintages, Agricole and molasses. Reminds me a bit of rum from Trinidad or Guyana, as it has a very present herbal note. Plus some mint and menthol, not sure if I would have assigned it to Savanna blind! For the price, though, a bit too flat, probably the collector series showing through.

20/06/2026: beautiful very floral molasses (almost perfume) as often with Savanna. Flambéed banana, potpourri, jasmine tea, caramel, a little coconut oil. Camphor side that intensifies with opening. Beautiful well-fat texture.

I expected much, much more, also considering the release price, but in my opinion I find all Savanna not suitable for me, I find them lacking punch. In the glass not very viscous, it creates some lines but they are fluid and not sticky. At first the alcohol is little integrated and slightly pungent, at times a bit astringent especially on the nose, less so on the palate. After several tastings it always seems a bit sweetish to me. The color is very pleasant. Over time it evolves, both in smell and palate, but then the alcoholic note fades and consequently it loses aromas and character as if it fades away. I expected something more in my opinion.
