Caroni fans expecting the full engine-room hit should know this one plays against type. Several tasters say it drinks more like an old Guyana rum — dried fruit, dark chocolate, burnt sugar, nuts and wood — with the classic tar-and-rubber Caroni note only turning up right at the end. Fruity, layered, and at 63.1% the alcohol sits surprisingly well.

Very atypical Caroni. Really cool mix of Caroni and Guyana flavors!

This is not your typical Caroni. Very light in the traditional flavours but I do like that they didn't water it down like usual. Fruity with nice roasted notes and wood as well as an overripe fruit basket.

Without knowing it, I would probably have guessed an older rum from Guyana with slightly dirty aromas, so this Caroni positively surprised me. The classic Guyana profile with dried fruits, burnt sugar, chocolate, nuts, wood, and spices dominates especially on the palate, so Caroni fans might be a bit disappointed. Definitely not a bad rum though.

Awesome. A great intense rum, without being typically Caroni. A whole different world. On the nose like a pimped Foursquare with coconut, vanilla, and roasted aromas, the rum is still closed. I like the very fruity part. On the palate an explosion and the rum is very complex. Everything comes together here. The Caroni absolutely allows workshop associations. But broader and more complex than usual. Plus fruit, some herbs, and a fresh mint/eucalyptus note. That's just awesome. Alcohol perfectly integrated. You don't notice the over 60%. I'm thrilled. Top.

For a Caroni, it has everything a first-class Guyana should have. Really surprised me, pleasant on the nose with fruits and a slight sweetness. On the palate then dried fruits, chocolate, caramel. The typical Caroni only comes at the very end. I'm thrilled.

It builds nicely at the start: Typical Caroni notes, plus dark chocolate and perfectly dosed alcohol pushes well. Then in the finish suddenly a significantly disturbing and conspicuous, I have not encountered in any other Caroni, missing note with shaving foam or aftershave and sandalwood. I like this aftershave/shaving cream smell a lot on the skin, but not as a flavor in a rum. Here this note does not fit at all for my taste.
