The nose is warm with caramel on ripe tropical fruit, varnish and marzipan. On the palate, the alcohol stings a little and the aromas struggle to emerge, remaining too fine. A slightly disappointing rum, as the alcohol is not very well integrated and the aromas are ghostly. Especially in direct comparison with other magnificent rums (RX566 - RX9232).

Heard great things and didn’t quite deliver. A super drinkable and approachable rum, sugar cane elements but super easy to drink. Grassy notes but light, and real complexity. Agricole elements keep coming to the fore the more you drink and savour. Very drinkable for the ABV. Grass, hay, and some metal

Beautiful rarity with an independent Guadeloupe style. Pleasant dark sweetness that tastes almost like a cognac cask. Eucalyptus notes on the second tasting.

Very, very tasty. Perfectly balanced. Some citrus zest, a little nougat, some roasted spices and fine milk chocolate. I wouldn't have thought I'd like it so much! Great stuff!

Wow! What an awesome nose!!😃😃 Solvent, glue (love me), fresh, smoky, tobacco, earth and a hint of dried fruit. Strong, you can feel the alcohol too. Super! More oak in the mouth now. Crisp, fresh, complex. A few drops of water don't hurt either. Long, nice finish. Freshness and spices. A great rum! A dream for any sniffer. Does anyone still have a bottle for me?😀😀

What a lovely and intense rum. Velier really knows how to finish their rums. Very fresh and spicy with fruit, spices, caramel and tobacco and fruit. The caramel is very clear without being too dominant. I think I got a hint of smoky wood there as well.

In direct comparison with the Basseterre 97. On the nose, the 95 is clearly more intense, more spice, vanilla and caramel (almost in the direction of Spanish). In addition, fresh, floral notes in the background. The 97 comes clearly more over the fruity side. However, apart from the significantly higher ABV, which also gives the 95 more volume and intensity on the palate, I don't find the differences here to be that pronounced. If I had to choose between the two, however, the 95 would be my clear favorite. Many thanks to Luca for the samples!

Has considerably more steam to offer than the 1997, which in this case is not synonymous with more gustatory complexity. Where the 1997 plunges into aromatic subtleties, the 1995 pushes the tube and loses a little balance. A nevertheless high-quality rum, which lacks the balance for the highest consecrations (or is it actually a well-dosed dilution)?

Not too intrusive on the nose. Fresh and spicy. Fine citrus with cherry and slightly opaque blackberry. Comes across a bit green-herbal-grassy. Leathery spice with light vanilla. Spicy and slightly woody on the palate. Green, grassy, tea and that quite balanced. A fine tart sweetness towards caramel. Overall somewhat muted on the palate. In the finish mid-palate, now also the grassy-sweet sugar cane comes through. Nice but not outstanding

A very nice Montebello, a bit closed ok the nose (maybe due to abv, but after 1h it wasn't changed that much). On the other hand, drink side it is pretty explosive and very tasteful with leather, wood, agrumes

Direct comparison with the Basseterre 1997. Both have a similar profile, but the 1995 has significantly more power and thus more depth. The 97 has a slightly watery mouthfeel on the finish due to lower alcohol. Without direct comparison, I probably wouldn't have noticed so much, as the 97 is still a rounded thing. A bit fruitier than the 95. The 95 brings a full load of spices alongside the fruits. But also noticeably more wood notes, especially on the long finish. Both nice bottlings, but the 95 does everything a bit better.

A nose below par, a shy palate but what a finish, I want more, a little concentrated shot of orange, caramel, cigar cape, coffee and pastry notes. Superb!

A really nice impression from the first sip. I honestly didn’t think it was rum at first. The dried fruit is very obvious, carried by a lovely sugar sweetness. Even though it’s high ABV, it’s not too spiky or aggressive. Instead, it still carries a nice creamy texture that makes it surprisingly smooth and easy to drink.
