If you expect a grassy, sharp agricole, this cane-juice rhum from Guadeloupe goes the other way: soft, round and almost silky. Members find oak and warm spice up front, with apricot, peach, cherry and a caramel-crème brûlée sweetness, then a light smoke on the finish. One taster called it "en douceur typique" — gentle and well balanced despite the modest strength. A calm, mature sipper more than a bright agricole.

Got the opportunity to taste this extraordinary rum during my visit at the distillery recently which was great, cause than I can save my own bottle a while more. The RQL, vintage 1999, has been released yearly since 2010 till the last release of this 19yr old one released 2018. Right now there are just a very few bottles left at the distillery that’s not for sale. The nose is round, fruity, woody and spicy with scents of oak, apricot, prunes, banana, peach and spices. At the palate it’s round almost silky, woody, spicy, fruity with some sweetness and flavors of vanilla, peppers, chili, leather, cherry and oak. The finish is long, spicy and smoky but also some flavors from the palate persists.

Advent calendar tasting #23 I liked it a lot, even if it lacks a bit of depth, beautiful aromas of fruit and caramel, a nice woodiness. Alcohol a bit present, but not disturbing. Medium length on the palate.

Color: Light brown, slightly reddish Smell: At first sweet fruity aromas (apricot) and a burst of toffee. Then dark chocolate and woody aromas. The fruitiness fades more and more. Taste: Sweet, oily, creamy and slightly spicy in the mouth. When swallowing caramel and slightly spicy-woody. Green twigs, herbal-medicinal, eucalyptus, syrupy and even a bit sticky. Finish: Medium length Old wood, slightly spicy, cough syrup. 84 points

Smooth rum typical of ReimonenQ. The nose is soft and indulgent on wood, cane sugar and exotic fruits. A touch of sweet spices. On the palate, you find the indulgence and softness. The wood is still well present, with spice and caramel, crème brûlée. Beautiful notes of exotic fruits, and a smoky touch at the end of the tasting. The finish is long and soft, a bit of pepper, all in the wood that never left the tasting but is a bit smoky at the end here. Softness is the key word but it is well mastered and very balanced given the "low strength."
