Edit Edit: The more I try it, the less enthusiastic I get about it. For me, the price is simply too high for what it does. Sorry. Edit Just tried it again with Buddudharma in the garden. A solid, very good blend, but for a higher rating I lack that certain something extra. Alcohol is well integrated. Not a bad first impression, but give it a little more time in the glass. But save my rating until I have sent the samples from the split. 😉 In my opinion, the Clarendon is very clearly recognizable

Tasted it twice. The first time, I was very disappointed that it didn't taste as I had imagined. I then decided to taste it again at my leisure. All in all, a very nice Jamaican blend that has a lot to offer thanks to the high proportion of tropical storage. Both the nose and the palate have a lot to offer and it is a very tasty drop. However, the blend does not offer more than its individual parts. With the high proportion of 95emb and 94ny, I actually expect something that matches the quality of the two exceptional vintages. But that is not the case. It's good, but for what it's made of and what it costs, I would have expected more. And I would have wanted to pay less for the result. I'll probably stick with the sample.

The nose is very interesting! Since I know what's inside, I can go on a journey of discovery. EMB is immediately recognizable. I imagine I can also sniff out New Yarmouth. And if you know it, Long Pond can't hide either. A very successful combination on the nose! The palate is also very impressive - varied and complex. The rum makes a pleasant shift on the palate from fruity-sweet to spicy, cask and dry. But the sweet tropical fruits also keep reappearing in the very long finish, which is probably thanks to the EMB. I consider this blend to be an outstanding success. It allows you to go on a targeted search and is a pleasure to taste for a long time. Note: My glass was covered for approx. 2 hours before tasting.

On the nose wood, esters, varnish and glue, slightly fruity / dried fruit Then a light sweetness on the palate, herbal, lots of wood, again ester, varnish and glue notes. When I tasted it, I described it as drinkable. However, I must also say that the price is very off-putting, although of course the predominantly tropical maturation has to be paid for.

Very invitingly fruity on the nose. This impression continues on the palate. For me, the EMB component dominates slightly, but I also like that. Carefully blended rum with strong tropical components, goes down like oil and makes you dream of the Caribbean.

Mmh the nose is very fruity with lots of esters ... Clarendon is clearly in the foreground. You can already smell the other components but very restrained and clearly in the background. On the palate, the alcohol is noticeable first... relatively unfavorably 🫢 integrated... the whole thing seems somehow inharmonious. With a lot of time, the Clarendon also comes through well on the palate ... the rest of the blend can actually only be guessed at (unless you know it) then of course you can taste 🤣🤣🤣 a corner of it here and there. In May Tai it's worlds better and makes a solid 4/5 😎💥

A very interesting blend. It starts off fruity, spicy and promising on the palate, but then quickly flattens out, becomes bitter and loses a lot of its intensity. Nevertheless, thanks to its balanced complexity, there is something new to discover with every sip. The finish is rather woody and dry and subsides relatively quickly.

The sample has been waiting for quite a while, but I haven't had the time yet. Old, tropical, not quite cheap. What are the inner values? ... Nose: tropical fruits, and lots of them, together with woody spice. Caramelized pineapple, orange, mild lemon, ripe banana, plus sweet and sour blackcurrant, passion fruit and gooseberry. All backed with honey and caramel. There is a whole range of spices that remind me of brown cake, vanilla, allspice and liquorice. Finally, a little soap and a hint of mint. Very complex, full-bodied and round if you give it time. Really nice. 9.0 Palate: much more bitter than on the nose. Bitter and astringent, almost metallic at the start, with plenty of esters and mint, orange peel and lime. Tropical passion fruit only asserts itself behind this. The finish is woody and spicy with nutmeg and allspice. Less relaxed on the palate, but still full-bodied. 8,4 All in all, a good, high-quality rum blend with a fantastic nose that is quite challenging on the palate.

//For the people among you who actually read this - yes, I added this review to the wrong Rum yesterday :D As usual these bottles flew out of the digital shelves and luckily I have a sample and even better, after tasting it just now, a bottle of it. To begin with the important part: It is great and I don’t really understand the bad or average ratings. The nose is really great, complex and keeps on developing. Side note: Take your time and you will be rewarded. The different profiles are are there and supplement each other perfectly. On the palate it is balanced, warm with loads of spices, dried fruits and some wood. There is a sharpness and some tannins but just the right amount. The Ester between all the aromas is just lovely. I think for today I am going to leave it at this but maybe playing with a few drops of water can even push it a bit further. What a surprise! Cheers.

Schöner Blend. Mir gefällt er. Typischer Jamaikaner mit vielen tropischen Früchten und viel Ester. Außerdem lässt sich noch etwas Klebstoff und Lack erkennen. Nur preislich wohl leider etwas zu hoch angesetzt.

If I had to summarize the rum in one word, it would be "disappointing". Strongly alcoholic nose, lots of glue and varnish (but not the good stuff). Fruity notes emerge after a long time, but the alcohol remains very present. This then continues in the mouth. The alcohol is poorly integrated, which is surprising, especially considering the age. The main point of criticism, however, is that the whole thing does not fit together harmoniously. The individual rum components can be tasted because they come to the fore alternately. But this is exactly what I don't expect from a blend. Rather, I want a harmonious whole that is better than its individual parts. I don't taste or smell that here. A bitter disappointment for me. The individual components would have been more interesting.

It’s a nice old blend. The Clarendon is very recognizable and to me, dominant in the profile. I keep having the feeling that I expected more from it somehow. Maybe I need to taste it again for further assessment.

#5064 Friday 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Medium dark to dark. Nose Wood, light roasted, fruits, spice, banana, dried fruit, light herbs, faint licorice. Palate Oily, round, balanced, wood, naturally sweet, light coffee, faint chocolate, light licorice, light anise, fruits, banana, light raisin. Finish Long and warm, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, spice, light chocolate, light coffee. Empty glass Spice, pineapple, faint glue, light herbal, light leather, faint mint.

An der Nase strömt sofort das Aroma eines Clarendon empor. Andere Distillen nehme ich so gut wie gar nicht wahr. Am Gaumen verteilt er sich cremig und weich…der Alkohol ist sehr gut eingebunden. Anfangs eine esterhafte Süsse gefolgt von tropischen Früchten, dazu eine angenehme Würze. Je länger er am Gaumen verweilt, desto adstringierender wird er. Im Abgang überwiegen Fass- und Kräuteraromen. Sicherlich eine schöne geblendete Abfüllung, aber auch nichts was ich unbedingt haben muss

I had no particular expectations of the rum. That's why I'm very (positively) surprised by this bottling. Mint and tropical fruit...I'm always on the go! Beautiful Clarendon DNA. I like it very much. Very bitter in the finish, which some will probably not like.

Gefällt mir sehr gut. Schwere, ölige Süsse, viel frische Zitrusfrüchte, Holz, Gewürze. Das EMB-Profil ist klar erkennbar, auch die Vanille-Karamellsüsse aus dem Bourbonfass, die das NY94-Profil auszeichnet, bleibt erkennbar. Gelungener Blend, sehr gut trinkbar.

Dieser Blend gefällt mir ausgesprochen gut, braucht aber zur vollen Entfaltung mindestens eine halbe Stunde Luftkontakt im Glas, wodurch der Geruch nicht nur komplexer, sondern auch deutlich harmonischer wird. Im Mund gibt es dann zunächst eine ordentliche Menge Holz zu kauen, bevor die Belohnung in Form von Gewürzen und tropischen Früchten erfolgt. Das für meinen Geschmack allerdings echte Highlight ist der retronasale Nachhall, wenn der ansonsten vermeintlich eher unspektakuläre Abgang verklungen ist. Diese anhaltende, ätherische Mischung verschiedenster Tropenfrüchte mit latenter toastiger Gewürzbegleitung finde ich wirklich großartig.

Also ich finde den Blend an der Nase durchaus ansprechend: tropische Früchte, Lack, Politur, Creme, wie ich sie bei vielen EMB 95 habe. Ich mache aber auch Kuchenteig aus, wie er zB im Royal Cane NY 94 sehr schön rüber kam. Der LPS scheint da irgendwie etwas unter die Räder zu kommen, obwohl er ja auch über 30% ausmacht. Am Gaumen würzig, röstig, Fass, aber auch etwas scharfkantig, insb. hinten raus…

Beautiful old Jamaica blend. New Yarmouth comes through with light cookie dough notes, monymusk dominates overall with herbs and generally lots of menthol and wood notes, Long pond LPS brings some creaminess but is overall more in the background. Overall, it's a little too much wood for me but still a nice old Jamaica blend.

Feine Nase. Am Gaumen zunächst eher anstrengend mit viel Holzeinfluss. Unterm Strich ein Blend mit dem man sich auseinandersetzen wollen muss (kein sogenannter easy sipper). Mir ist er für die meisten Trinkgelegenheiten etwas zu anstrengend. Die 57% Alkoholgehalt merkt man deutlich aber als schlecht eingebunden empfand ich sie nicht.

Sowohl an der Nase als auch am Gaumen dominiert für mich der EMB (leider). Mit sehr viel Zeit im Glas lässt sich im Hintergrund auch der NY94 Anteil finden. Obwohl ich kein Clarendon-Fan bin, gefällt mir die Abfüllung ganz gut, auch wenn ich etwas mehr erwartet hätte.

Ist nicht immer leicht den Preis gedanklich außen vor zu lassen beim Tasten. Aber im Endeffekt haben wir hier einen soliden, durchaus komplexen und sehr schönen Jamaikaner. Klar…der Preis ist definitiv zu teuer, da er trotz der geilen Marks kein Alleinstellungsmerkmal aufweist. Schmeckt aber toll, Alkohol ist gut eingebunden und für jeden Jamaika Fan ist im Geschmack was dabei. Prost !

So viel vorab: Auf dem Papier eine absolute Maschine! Drei Bomben-Marques, die jeder für sich stehen und die verschiedenen Facetten Jamaikanischen Rums präsentieren. Während in der Nase anfangs der EMB-Teil dominant scheint, wandelt sich der Eindruck mit steigender Zeit im Glas. Die Ester werden deutlicher und Long Pond scheint die Bühne zu betreten. Irgendwann packt dann auch Ney Yarmouth noch die Ellenbogen aus und verschafft sich dahinter auch etwas Luft. Trotzdem wirkt die Nase für mich ausgeglichen, ich bilde mir ein, Aromen aller drei Marques zu erkennen und könnte ewig schnüffeln. Starke Nase, die Lust auf den Gaumen macht. Dort allerdings Ernüchterung: Der Blend ist viel eindimensionaler, flacher, ja sogar dünner, als es die Nase versprochen hat. Für mich überwiegt ein alkoholischer, bitterer Eindruck, der zwar nicht schlecht ist, aber bei diesem Preis schon fehl am Platz scheint. Mit steigender Zeit im Glas bessert sich der Alkohol, bleibt aber trotzdem präsent. Um nicht falsch verstanden zu werden: Immer noch sind die verschiedenen Bestandteile da, vor allem EMB und NY scheinen gegeneinander zu konkurrieren, aber insgesamt scheint der Blend hinter dem zu bleiben, was man von den Einzel-Marques kennt. Für mich ein ganz klares Gefälle zwischen Nase und Gaumen, das in Summe für eine gute, aber eben nicht sehr gute Bewertung reicht. Für den Preis hatte ich ehrlich gesagt noch etwas mehr erwartet!

Schöner Duft aus dem Glas, aber irgendwie kommt bei mir da kein Jamaica Feeling auf. Blind verkostet wäre ich wahrscheinlich nie auf Jamaica gekommen. Ist schon ok, schön fruchtig, aber für den Preis bin ich leider ein wenig enttäuscht, hab mir einfach viel mehr erhofft.

Pas mal du tout ce blend. On sent direct le clarendon en premier plan, puis discrètement les 2 autres distilleries qui arrivent ensuite. Ça se déguste bien mais c’est loin d’être mon blend préféré. (Le Ricci est vraiment top par exemple) Sinon bcp d’arômes agréables, une belle intégration de l’alcool, et une bonne longueur 😉

Dann nehm ich mir mal die letztenTropfen zur Bewertung vor - kurzum ein leckerer Rum aber kein guter Blend - warum ? Das Ganze ist hier leider weniger, als vermutlich die Summe seiner Teile. Der Rum ist zwar diffizil - aber man muss schon sehr genau hinschmecken, wie in einem Musikstück dessen Dynamik so unausgewogen ist, dass eine gute, aber simple Grundmelodie die ganzen interessanten Teile bei weitem übertönt und diese nur ganz leise im Hintergrund zu hören sind, wenn man sich auch wirkich konzentriert. Der Clarendon ist hier mit seiner holzigen Stachelbeernote Baaaam in die Fresse, auf den LPS schiebe ich hier eine von mir als unangenehm wahrgenommene Glyzerinnote und gaaaanz weit hinten im Abgang und auch in der Nase kommt der NewYarmouth-Keksteig durch und gibt dem Rum vermutlich auch eine angenehme holzigkeit - also der Ny is da, aber viel zu unterpräsent, den hätte ich gerne als reine Abfüllung probiert. Der Clarendon 1999 von FRC ist für mich allerding um Welten komplexer und ausgewogener und obwohl es kein schlechter Rum ist, war diese Abfüllung für mich leider eine Enttäuschun. Vermutlich waren bei den angekündigten Blendbestandteilen auch einfach meine Erwartungen zu hoch - der typische Moment, in dem man sich denkt - was soll da schon schief gehen. Immerhin muss man ihm zu Gute halten, dass er nochmal ein ganzes stück ausgewogener wurde und sich geöffnet hat, nachdem die Flasche zwei Monate offen war. Als Mixer hingegen ist er phänomenal ( 9 Punkte ) und hat mir den besten MaiTai gemacht, den ich bis jetzt hatte. Das PLV ist hier leider eine Katasthrophe, sonst hätte der Rum für mich weit besser abgeschnitten. Aber ein Rum dessen Hauptqualität für mich im Mixen liegt, der fast 300 Geld kostet ... da bin ich raus.

Nase: Fruchtig aber eher auf der dünkleren Seite, Milchschokolade, Haselnuss, Feigen, dann aber schon auch tropische Früchte wie Banane, Papaya, Mango. Alkohol wahrnehmbar aber nicht störend Wird im Gaumen etwas "heller", erst etwas Pflaume dann der ganze tropische Früchtekorb, im Abgang getrocknete Aprikose mit etwas Erdbeere. Bin hin und her gerissen, bei einem Schluck finde ich ihn sehr schön fruchtig und rund beim nächsten stört mich etwas die Schärfe des Alkohol und umgekehrt

Sehr viele verschiedene Früchte. Nicht nur Banane/Ananas wie es sonst für einen Jamaikaner üblich ist. Die Minznote ergänzt die Fruchtigkeit richtig gut. Ich finde zwar etwas untypisch aber dennoch sehr stimmig.

Read full review →Zusammenfassend muss ich sagen das ich direkt nach dem Eingießen etwas enttäuscht war, weil für mich der Clarendon so dominant war. Gibt man ihm jedoch die Zeit die er verdient ändert sich dieser Eindruck. Der Blend ist dann noch komplexer und zeigt zumindest zwei der Komponenten recht deutlich, aber perfekt miteinander verbunden. Und nebenbei möchte noch erwähnen das der Blend auch hervorragend zu einer Zigarre passt. Diese sollte dann aber schon etwas Power haben, denn sonst geht sie unter.
