03.10.2026 Retasting and still find it good 😊 ------------ #5064 Friday 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Medium dark to dark. Nose Wood, light roasted, fruits, spice, banana, dried fruit, light herbs, faint licorice. Palate Oily, round, balanced, wood, naturally sweet, light coffee, faint chocolate, light licorice, light anise, fruits, banana, light raisin. Finish Long and warm, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, spice, light chocolate, light coffee. Empty glass Spice, pineapple, faint glue, light herbal, light leather, faint mint.

Tasted it twice. The first time, I was very disappointed that it didn't taste as I had imagined. I then decided to taste it again at my leisure. All in all, a very nice Jamaican blend that has a lot to offer thanks to the high proportion of tropical storage. Both the nose and the palate have a lot to offer and it is a very tasty drop. However, the blend does not offer more than its individual parts. With the high proportion of 95emb and 94ny, I actually expect something that matches the quality of the two exceptional vintages. But that is not the case. It's good, but for what it's made of and what it costs, I would have expected more. And I would have wanted to pay less for the result. I'll probably stick with the sample.

The more I try it, the less impressed I am. For me, what it delivers is just not worth the price. Sorry. Just tried it again with Buddudharma in the garden. A solid, very good blend, but it lacks that certain something for a higher rating. Alcohol is well integrated. Not bad at first impression, but I'll give it some more time in the glass. I'll hold off on my rating until I've sent out the samples from the split. 😉 In my opinion, the Clarendon is very clearly recognizable.

The nose is very interesting! Since we know what's inside, I can embark on a journey of discovery. EMB is immediately recognizable. I also imagine sniffing New Yarmouth. And once you know it, Long Pond can't hide either. A very successful combination on the nose! On the palate equally impressive - diverse and complex. The rum makes a pleasant swing on the palate from fruity-sweet to spicy, cask and dry. But even in the very long finish, the sweet tropical fruits keep reappearing, probably thanks to the EMB. I consider this blend excellently done. It allows you to go on a targeted search and brings long and much joy while tasting. Note: My glass stood covered for about 2 hours before tasting.

On the nose wood, esters, varnish and glue, slightly fruity / dried fruit Then a light sweetness on the palate, herbal, lots of wood, again ester, varnish and glue notes. When I tasted it, I described it as drinkable. However, I must also say that the price is very off-putting, although of course the predominantly tropical maturation has to be paid for.

Very inviting fruity on the nose. This impression continues on the palate. For me, the EMB portion slightly dominates, which I also like. Carefully blended rum with strong tropical aged components, goes down like oil and makes you dream of the Caribbean.

Mmh the nose is very fruity with lots of esters ... Clarendon is clearly in the foreground. You can already smell the other components but very restrained and clearly in the background. On the palate, the alcohol is noticeable first... relatively unfavorably 🫢 integrated... the whole thing seems somehow inharmonious. With a lot of time, the Clarendon also comes through well on the palate ... the rest of the blend can actually only be guessed at (unless you know it) then of course you can taste 🤣🤣🤣 a corner of it here and there. In May Tai it's worlds better and makes a solid 4/5 😎💥

A very interesting blend. It starts off fruity, spicy and promising on the palate, but then quickly flattens out, becomes bitter and loses a lot of its intensity. Nevertheless, thanks to its balanced complexity, there is something new to discover with every sip. The finish is rather woody and dry and subsides relatively quickly.

The sample has been waiting for quite a while, but I haven't had the time yet. Old, tropical, not quite cheap. What are the inner values? ... Nose: tropical fruits, and lots of them, together with woody spice. Caramelized pineapple, orange, mild lemon, ripe banana, plus sweet and sour blackcurrant, passion fruit and gooseberry. All backed with honey and caramel. There is a whole range of spices that remind me of brown cake, vanilla, allspice and liquorice. Finally, a little soap and a hint of mint. Very complex, full-bodied and round if you give it time. Really nice. 9.0 Palate: much more bitter than on the nose. Bitter and astringent, almost metallic at the start, with plenty of esters and mint, orange peel and lime. Tropical passion fruit only asserts itself behind this. The finish is woody and spicy with nutmeg and allspice. Less relaxed on the palate, but still full-bodied. 8,4 All in all, a good, high-quality rum blend with a fantastic nose that is quite challenging on the palate.

//For the people among you who actually read this - yes, I added this review to the wrong Rum yesterday :D As usual these bottles flew out of the digital shelves and luckily I have a sample and even better, after tasting it just now, a bottle of it. To begin with the important part: It is great and I don’t really understand the bad or average ratings. The nose is really great, complex and keeps on developing. Side note: Take your time and you will be rewarded. The different profiles are are there and supplement each other perfectly. On the palate it is balanced, warm with loads of spices, dried fruits and some wood. There is a sharpness and some tannins but just the right amount. The Ester between all the aromas is just lovely. I think for today I am going to leave it at this but maybe playing with a few drops of water can even push it a bit further. What a surprise! Cheers.

It’s a nice old blend. The Clarendon is very recognizable and to me, dominant in the profile. I keep having the feeling that I expected more from it somehow. Maybe I need to taste it again for further assessment.

Nice blend. I like it. Typical Jamaican with lots of tropical fruits and lots of esters. Also you can still detect some glue and varnish. Only price is probably a bit too high.

At the nose, the aroma of a Clarendon immediately rises. I hardly perceive other distilleries. On the palate, it spreads creamy and soft... the alcohol is very well integrated. Initially an ester-like sweetness followed by tropical fruits, plus a pleasant spiciness. The longer it stays on the palate, the more astringent it becomes. In the finish, barrel and herbal aromas dominate. Certainly a nice blended bottling, but nothing I absolutely have to have.

If I had to summarize the rum in one word, it would be "disappointing". Strongly alcoholic nose, lots of glue and varnish (but not the good stuff). Fruity notes emerge after a long time, but the alcohol remains very present. This then continues in the mouth. The alcohol is poorly integrated, which is surprising, especially considering the age. The main point of criticism, however, is that the whole thing does not fit together harmoniously. The individual rum components can be tasted because they come to the fore alternately. But this is exactly what I don't expect from a blend. Rather, I want a harmonious whole that is better than its individual parts. I don't taste or smell that here. A bitter disappointment for me. The individual components would have been more interesting.

I like it very much. Heavy, oily sweetness, lots of fresh citrus fruits, wood, spices. The EMB profile is clearly recognizable, also the vanilla-caramel sweetness from the bourbon barrel that characterizes the NY94 profile remains noticeable. Successful blend, very drinkable.

I had no particular expectations of the rum. That's why I'm very (positively) surprised by this bottling. Mint and tropical fruit...I'm always on the go! Beautiful Clarendon DNA. I like it very much. Very bitter in the finish, which some will probably not like.

I really like this blend a lot, but it needs at least half an hour of air contact in the glass to fully develop, which makes the smell not only more complex but also noticeably more harmonious. On the palate, you first get a good amount of wood to chew on before the reward comes in the form of spices and tropical fruits. However, the real highlight for me is the retronasal aftertaste when the otherwise seemingly rather unspectacular finish has faded. I really love this lingering, ethereal mix of various tropical fruits with a subtle toasty spice accompaniment.

Well, I find the blend quite appealing on the nose: tropical fruits, lacquer, polish, cream, as I have in many EMB 95. I also get cake batter, as it came across nicely in the Royal Cane NY 94, for example. The LPS seems to somehow get a bit lost, although it also makes up over 30%. On the palate spicy, roasted, cask, but also a bit sharp-edged, especially towards the back...

Beautiful old Jamaica blend. New Yarmouth comes through with light cookie dough notes, monymusk dominates overall with herbs and generally lots of menthol and wood notes, Long pond LPS brings some creaminess but is overall more in the background. Overall, it's a little too much wood for me but still a nice old Jamaica blend.

For me, both the nose and the palate are dominated by the EMB (unfortunately). With a lot of time in the glass, you can also find the NY94 component in the background. Although I'm not a Clarendon fan, I quite like the bottling, even if I expected a bit more.

It's not always easy to mentally ignore the price when tasting. But in the end, we have a solid, quite complex, and very nice Jamaican here. Sure... the price is definitely too high, as despite the cool marks it doesn't have a unique selling point. But it tastes great, the alcohol is well integrated, and for every Jamaica fan there's something in the flavor. Cheers!

So much upfront: On paper, an absolute beast! Three bombshell marques, each standing on its own and showcasing different facets of Jamaican rum. While the EMB part seems dominant on the nose at first, the impression changes with time in the glass. The esters become clearer and Long Pond seems to take the stage. Eventually, Ney Yarmouth elbows its way in and also claims some space behind. Still, the nose feels balanced to me; I imagine aromas from all three marques and could sniff forever. Strong nose that makes you eager for the palate. However, there’s sobering reality there: the blend is much more one-dimensional, flatter, even thinner than the nose promised. For me, an alcoholic, bitter impression dominates, which isn’t bad but seems out of place at this price. With more time in the glass, the alcohol improves but remains present. To be clear: the different components are still there, especially EMB and NY seem to compete against each other, but overall the blend seems to fall short of what you know from the single marques. For me, a clear gap between nose and palate, resulting in a good but not very good rating overall. Honestly expected a bit more for the price!

Nice aroma from the glass, but somehow I don't get a Jamaica feeling from it. Tasted blind, I probably would never have guessed Jamaica. It's okay, nicely fruity, but for the price, I'm a bit disappointed; I simply hoped for much more.

Fine nose. On the palate initially rather demanding with a lot of wood influence. Overall a blend you have to want to engage with (not a so-called easy sipper). For most drinking occasions, it's a bit too demanding for me. The 57% alcohol content is clearly noticeable but I didn't find it badly integrated.

Not bad at all this blend. You immediately feel the Clarendon upfront, then discreetly the other two distilleries come in. It drinks well but it's far from being my favorite blend. (The Ricci is really top for example) Otherwise lots of pleasant aromas, a nice integration of the alcohol, and a good length 😉

Dann nehm ich mir mal die letztenTropfen zur Bewertung vor - kurzum ein leckerer Rum aber kein guter Blend - warum ? Das Ganze ist hier leider weniger, als vermutlich die Summe seiner Teile. Der Rum ist zwar diffizil - aber man muss schon sehr genau hinschmecken, wie in einem Musikstück dessen Dynamik so unausgewogen ist, dass eine gute, aber simple Grundmelodie die ganzen interessanten Teile bei weitem übertönt und diese nur ganz leise im Hintergrund zu hören sind, wenn man sich auch wirkich konzentriert. Der Clarendon ist hier mit seiner holzigen Stachelbeernote Baaaam in die Fresse, auf den LPS schiebe ich hier eine von mir als unangenehm wahrgenommene Glyzerinnote und gaaaanz weit hinten im Abgang und auch in der Nase kommt der NewYarmouth-Keksteig durch und gibt dem Rum vermutlich auch eine angenehme holzigkeit - also der Ny is da, aber viel zu unterpräsent, den hätte ich gerne als reine Abfüllung probiert. Der Clarendon 1999 von FRC ist für mich allerding um Welten komplexer und ausgewogener und obwohl es kein schlechter Rum ist, war diese Abfüllung für mich leider eine Enttäuschun. Vermutlich waren bei den angekündigten Blendbestandteilen auch einfach meine Erwartungen zu hoch - der typische Moment, in dem man sich denkt - was soll da schon schief gehen. Immerhin muss man ihm zu Gute halten, dass er nochmal ein ganzes stück ausgewogener wurde und sich geöffnet hat, nachdem die Flasche zwei Monate offen war. Als Mixer hingegen ist er phänomenal ( 9 Punkte ) und hat mir den besten MaiTai gemacht, den ich bis jetzt hatte. Das PLV ist hier leider eine Katasthrophe, sonst hätte der Rum für mich weit besser abgeschnitten. Aber ein Rum dessen Hauptqualität für mich im Mixen liegt, der fast 300 Geld kostet ... da bin ich raus.

Lots of different fruits. Not just banana/pineapple as is usual for a Jamaican. The mint note really complements the fruitiness well. I find it a bit unusual but still very harmonious.

Nase: Fruchtig aber eher auf der dünkleren Seite, Milchschokolade, Haselnuss, Feigen, dann aber schon auch tropische Früchte wie Banane, Papaya, Mango. Alkohol wahrnehmbar aber nicht störend Wird im Gaumen etwas "heller", erst etwas Pflaume dann der ganze tropische Früchtekorb, im Abgang getrocknete Aprikose mit etwas Erdbeere. Bin hin und her gerissen, bei einem Schluck finde ich ihn sehr schön fruchtig und rund beim nächsten stört mich etwas die Schärfe des Alkohol und umgekehrt

Read full review ›In summary, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed right after pouring because for me the Clarendon was so dominant. However, if you give it the time it deserves, this impression changes. The blend then becomes even more complex and shows at least two of the components quite clearly, but perfectly connected. And by the way, I want to mention that the blend also goes excellently with a cigar. But the cigar should have some power, otherwise it gets lost.
