Menthol and eucalyptus over ripe yellow fruit — mirabelle, apricot, peach iced tea — with a spicy, slightly dirty edge and some oak on the finish. This 2002 TDL from Swell reads rounder and more fruit-forward than most, with the trademark mint dialed way back. Several tasters call it a "daily sipper" that needs weeks of air to open. Hmm, well, surprisingly I don't really warm up to this TDL. On the nose it still feels tropical aged for a long time, but somehow unspectacular, on the palate for me it has too little mint but a certain roughness, it's too exhausting, too harsh for me. There's still some left in the sample bottle, I have to taste it again. Today however just about 80 points.

Franconian Tasting Gang on 23.11.24 at Jarek's. Somehow T.D.L doesn't really grab me these days. Compared to that, there was the T.D.L Eule from Romdeluxe. As a conclusion for me, unfortunately this one from Swell can't keep up.

Drei T.D.L. im Vergleich: Swell: Sehr gediegener und entspannter TDL, der überhaupt nicht nach 20 Jahren Fassreife schmeckt. Am Gaumen cremig süß mit der gewohnten Minznote, die sich die Waage mit hellen Früchten gibt. Der Abgang ist sehr kurz und eibfach süß minzig mit Oliven. 80 Pkt. TWJ 2009: Mittlerweile finde ich den 2009er Jahrgang mit am besten. Sehr viel Frucht, die vom Antritt bis zum Abgang in intensiver Qualität vorhanden ist. Besonders hervorstechend finde ich die karamellisierte Honigmelone. Die Minze hat im Abgang dann doch noch das letzte Wort =D Sehr geiles Teil 87 Pkt. Ricci 2003: Der "Schwerste" aus den dreien. Eine vollmundige Minzbonbonbombe. Am Gaumen wird die Minze immer intensiver, die Früchte immer dunkler. Toller Rum, sehr viel Minze. 85 Pkt. Alkohol bei allen top integriert. durch den kurzen Abgang fällt der Swell etwas ab.

Goûté au RhumFest 2024 (en début de festival) donc pas dans les conditions idéales. Mais suffisamment pour se rendre compte qu'il s'agit encore d'une très jolie sélection ! Des fruits rouges, du bois. Un cote pâtissier pour la rondeur. Pas assez de temps mais ça semble encore complexe et évolutif. A retester d'urgence.

Well, another 2002 T.D.L. Still nice and classic on the nose with typical markers, but loses me a bit on the palate. On the palate it spreads very lightly and first appears a caramel sweetness. Then follows some mint with herbs and light fruit. The finish continues like this. This is one of the weaker ones from 2002.

Swell and TDLs are a guarantee for top-class rums. This one as well. It actually comes across as relatively moderate for a TDL. I have menthol and red fruits. Tar and mint notes only extremely subtle. I like it very much. The mint hardliners will find this one too shallow. I like it as an easy sipper. Unfortunately quite expensive, like so many SdS.

Nose: Relatively round and predominantly fruity notes on the nose. Reminiscent of iced tea peach with a slight minty note. Very inviting overall, but neither particularly intense nor complex. The same game on the palate. A fairly round TDL that I like.

On the nose, all kinds of yellow fruits (mirabelle, apricot), caramel sweetness that reminds me a bit of pudding or flan, behind that some dirty notes. Menthol is also there but a bit more restrained compared to other 2002 TDLs. On the palate, a wild ride from fruity-sweet, to dirty-menthol, to a rather bitter (cask) finish. Reminds me of the RdL TML 42 profile (if I read my notes), but subjectively (without direct comparison) it doesn't quite reach it. Still a really good 2002 TDL!

Solid TDL with the typical mint note, underlined by green apple, ripe apricots and peaches and generally rather yellow stone fruit on the nose. Aromatically then an intense sour-bitter cassis note, but I am bothered by a slightly medicinal note of bitter iodine together with menthol and Granny Smith apple... Also slight deductions for the not optimally integrated alcohol. I would rather not buy a bottle here.

#7220 26.08.2026 Got a handful of Swell samples today so why not give them a run for their money. Thanks for the samples Peter! Watching the TV Series "Swamp Murders". Pretty good release as well and the price tag at release was really good. Well balanced and rounded with fruits, spice, pastries, mint, roasted wood, caramel and some polish.

I really think this TDL is awesome - peach iced tea par excellence. The (tropical) fruits are extremely intense and perfectly supported by the mint. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and supports the long finish!

Nice T.D.L, but it doesn't really manage to convince me. Mint and fruitiness mix very clearly here. Also, you can quite easily detect herbs and it tastes slightly medicinal.

Last T.D.L of the night. On the nose: Woody, minty, roasted, tea notes and vanilla notes. Some menthol notes. Fruity notes like berries appear as the rum opens up. Taste: Fruity notes like berries, blackcurrants. Then you get more herbal notes, minty notes, woody notes and the mouthfeel changes to oily and slightly dirty. Light peppery notes in the background. Finish: Minty, herbal and menthol at first. Light woody notes. Light berry notes. Palate dries with tea notes and it gets bitter in the end with light tar notes maybe. Long finish. Out of three T.D.L rums i tasted tonight, this was my least favorite. Solid T.D.L rum, but when i am comparing this with the other two, this doesnt have nearly as rich flavour profile as the other two T.D.L rums did

Felt completely at home with this guy. I like the complex aroma play of menthol/mint, peach, and a good spice. Subtle solvent note. But the best is actually the long finish with nice menthol and spicy notes. Alcohol is averagely well integrated. I like it.

Un nez pas trop mal sans être exceptionnel... sur les épices, du bois, de l’alcool, de la poussière, une pomme verte et un très léger menthol. Pas grand chose à se mettre sous la dent. En bouche c’est nettement meilleur ! Les fruits rouges arrivent et le menthol s’affirme. Un côté caroniesque est aussi présent, sur le caoutchouc et quelque chose de crade. Il est très puissant avec une finale moyennement longue. Bref, le nez rattrapé largement par la bouche, une bouteille qui mérite sans conteste quelques semaines (voir mois d’aération) pour exprimer son plein potentiel. Beau produit même si très en dessous des deux TDL 2000, et au dessus des 2005 sortis chez Swell.

Franconian Tasting Gang - 23.11.2024: Tasted together with Rom Deluxe No. 42. Typical TDL of the 2002 vintage, but without edges and corners (except for the not perfectly integrated alcohol). Mint is there, though more subtle than in other bottlings. Some dirty notes and peach as well. Tasty, solid, not spectacular.

Nice fine scent of menthol/mint and forest fruits, vanilla, herbs. On the tongue it is mildly fruity and herbal, tannins appear, it is quite short and nothing spectacular. Beautiful finish, lots of menthol, mint, forest fruits. Good ending, all good😀

Hardly any mint notes, which are otherwise much more prominent in the 2002 T.D.L. Instead, red fruits and dirty notes. In the finish some wood and slightly bitter. Alcohol is well integrated.

The nose is already very awesome, the yellow fruits (overripe mirabelle?) practically jump into your face, behind that something like a very subtle smoky note. Mint is practically not found, at most to be guessed. Very elegant, definitely makes you want more. On the palate, brutally juicy yellow fruits, amazing, this is really tasty. Unfortunately, practically no mint or herbaceousness to be found, which I love so much in the 2002 bottlings, and also not overly complex, which denies it a higher rating. But still simply incredibly delicious and the most yellow-fruity TDL I've been able to try so far.

I like it very much. Cooling eucalyptus-menthol notes, barrel aromas, heavy fruit notes, tea, slight roastiness and dark spices. The alcohol is excellently integrated. A comparatively round TDL representative in the dirty profile that is fun.

Sehr guter TDL aus dem Hause swell. Typische TDL Minze is vorhanden, wenn auch nicht so intensiv. Schön cremig, mit Ecken und Kanten. Daily sipper, der aber eine Zeit zum Atmen braucht. Alkohol ist gut eingebunden.

Compared to the RDL Eule – my 2002 reference – tasted. For me this bottling falls a bit short and doesn't reach the Eule. Maybe also because TDL is not really my profile right now. Not bad, but not quite my thing.
