Amphore-aging is the twist here — resting the young cane juice in clay pots rounds it off and lays a mineral, almost salty streak under the grass. Expect fresh sugarcane, litchi and banana up top, with black pepper and a hint of anise on a long, oily finish. Floral and herbaceous throughout; at 54% the alcohol slips by cleanly. One taster caught olive and iodine in the empty glass.

#6242 17.01.2026 Running a few samples before taking off to Odense to visit Whisky Watcher. Nose Fresh, fruity, floral, sugarcane, citrus, pear, light mint, herbal. Palate Oily, fresh, fruity, sugarcane, light mint, vegetal, peppery, light salt, light pear, olive. Finish Long, peppery, faint smoke, sugarcane, citrus, olive, light salt. Empty glass Sugarcane, citrus, olive, light pear, iodine.

👃 The nose is full of flowers accompanied by vegetal notes and a bit of fruit like banana and lychee. The slight minerality must come from the resting in clay amphora. 👄 The mouth confirms the nose with an alcohol that goes down well and a long finish.

EDIT: Rhum Club Lille. Delicious! Beautiful smooth cane, lychee, licorice, berries. This famous Mana'o aged 18 months in amphorae! I've had it at home for 6 months, unopened, and now it's calling me... impossible to resist. A somewhat closed and disappointing nose, but on the palate it's like cream. A definitely herbal, vegetal profile, spiced with anise and pepper at the end of the palate. I'll come back to it in detail once my bottle is opened.

A rather floral agricole. Not really my taste.

Sympathetic, the cane, without disappearing completely, fades a little to make way for the fruitiness, giving it areas of raspberry brandy. Grapefruit then makes an appearance with its slight bitterness. The amphora clearly gives it a mineral edge and more roundness, but the pepper of the classic manao remains present.
