Reunion's Savanna leans on nail-polish solvent and glue, but the fruit is where it wins people over — strawberry candy, overripe pineapple and banana, that Haribo-meets-menthol thing several tasters keep mentioning. Un Savanna lourd à l’état brut. Le nez est submergé de notes chimiques allant des bonbons Haribo à la fraise aux esters, en passant par la colle, les solvants, des notes métalliques et des fruits trop mûrs (ananas, banane, framboise). On retrouve un côté légèrement épicé qui donne un petit plus à ce nez ultra concentré. L’attaque en bouche est puissante, médicinale et très funky. Les notes d’eau-de-vie, de fruits confits, de fruits tropicaux et de fruits rouges font le show devant les notes végétales et phénoliques. Il pourrait presque se mâcher comme un chewing-gum avec les mêmes saveurs chimiques. L’alcool est très bien intégré dans cet ensemble aromatique et intense. La finale est dans le prolongement de ce qu’on perçoit au nez et en bouche, un concentré de fruits et d’esters en tout genre, mais avec un petit agrément sur les épices, le cuir et des notes confites. Un Savanna qui a tout pour plaire, et qui ne demande qu’à être vieilli pour donner une nouvelle licorne réunionnaise.

Impressive. Level: difficult. Quite a lot of notes for only 626 esters. Good balance with the alkohol. It gives me a Bassets wine gums and metallic umami taste. I think I will be tasting this bottle a lot of times to get my arms around it. Great experience that I don't have quite like it, maybe with a La Perle, but much sweeter and aged than, and a lot more citrus sweets taste to accompany. Absolutely wonderful.

Dégustation des Savanna high ester. Un nez avec beaucoup de fruits, tropicaux (ananas) mais aussi des fruits rouges. Des solvants, un côté synthétique et pâte à modeler. L’alcool est bien intégré et en bouche aussi les fruits sont en compétition avec des arômes synthétiques et médicamenteux. La finale est courte, toujours sur les mêmes arômes avec un petit côté doux et crémeux qu’on ne sentait pas avant.

Savanna Herr blanc 57. Das ist einfach weißer Rum der Spaß macht. Ich kann hier gar nicht soviel vergleichen wie andere da ich die älteren Versionen kaum oder nicht kenne. Vermutlich gab es da intensivere Abfüllungen, aber wir sind nun Mal im hier und jetzt. Aber auch hier mangelt es nicht an Intensität. Toller Rum und da ich ihn im Daiquiri schon probiert hatte weiß ich das schmeckt einfach nur lecker!

The 2023 bottling is once again on top... for me it comes close to the Habiation Velier bottling. Not quite as present on the nose as this one, but almost on a par on the palate. I mixed a cocktail straight away (mojito) and had a real taste sensation. This is how the white HERR must be 🤩 Edit: Tasted again in the Savanna Masterclass. My rating remains

Un rhum très particulier, dans la continuité des autres Herr. Rhum grand arôme, très sur les fruits tropicaux (banane et ananas bien mûrs), avec un côté acidulé très spécial me faisant penser au bonbon arlequin. Clivant en tout cas, soit on aime soit on aime pas ! Le côté acidulé fruité fonctionne très bien en pairing avec un saumon cru/gravlax bien gras.

👃 = l'odeur chimique de dissolvant des esters se fait immédiatement ressentir mais avec une étonnante douceur agrémentée de fruits jaunes, de notes végétales et un peu de fruits rouges. 👄 = l'attaque est franche et acidulée avec une explosion d'olive, de poivre, de fruits mûrs terminant sur une finale onctueuse.

Der ungereifte HERR ist immer wieder ein Genuss. Bisweilen schimmert es etwas metallisch durch, aber an den nachhaltigen Aromen von Ananas und Beerenfrüchten hat man auch lange Zeit nach dem Runterschlucken noch seine Freude. Nachverkostung Masterclass Savanna Highlights Ester. Diesmal ein HERR. In der Nase überwiegend Ester und Ananas, aber auch leicht metallisch. Am Gaumen ebenfalls Ester und Ananas, Alkohol könnte aber besser eingebunden sein. Erinnert mich etwas an Obstler. Trotzdem echt gut.

On the nose this one turns up the classic strawberry and menthol candy/chewing gum notes, really. Very intense and ticking the HERR boxes for me. Similar picture on the palate with lots of funk. This is genuinely fun to drink. A bit ahead of the 2022 edition for me.

Etwas unreife Ananas, Himbeer Joghurt und eher pflanzlich an der Nase. Auch der 2023 batch hat für mich nichts mit den alten unaged Herr Qualitäten zu tun. Gefällt mir besser wie der 2022 batch aber leider insgesamt für mich eher enttäuschend im Vergleich zu den alten savannas wie dem velier white savanna 62,5% .

Außergewöhnliche Demonstration, wie ein ein High-Ester-Rum außerhalb der Jamaika-Welt aussieht. Intensiv Ananas, Beeren, saure Früchte und einen Hauch pflanzliche Aromen. Im Mund geht es analog weiter und ich finde, dass man diesen weißen Rum auch pur trinken kann.

This new HERR seemed better than the previous one. A sensation of better integration of the alcohol. It's extreme and insanely long. Not an everyday drink, but truly unique. Very ripe fruit, esters, light brine. A lot of fun.

White herr is the classic rum with which I would even have breakfast. Tried it at rhum fest and it won me over right away even though personally ( and perhaps I am bucking the trend) I preferred 2022 in which the briny note is more pronounced.

Phew, the nose is already full of HERR. Wild, overripe fruit (strawberries, mango, pineapple) and some nail polish. Really fun on its own. But it really comes into its own as a highlight ingredient in cocktails. 🍸

RumX Savanna Masterclass 27.09.2024: Der Gaumen kommt an sein Limit. Aber es ist noch was im Sample für eine zukünftige Verkostung. Der Eindruck am Ende des Abends ist aber, dass das ein toller HERR ist mit ordentlich Ananas Gummibärchen. Freue mich drauf den nochmal richtig zu verkosten.
