Made for drinkers already deep into Savanna's HERR world, this 8-year, 59.4% pot-still bomb from Reunion tastes like strawberry gummy bears, pineapple and green apple wrapped in menthol, solvent and a light oak toast. Most tasters call it the most elegant, "a bit more balanced than Herrline" HERR they've had, though the artificial-fruit, acetone edge isn't for everyone. A few found it overrated for what it is.

Nose Complex, balanced, light wood, floral, light prunes, faint caramel, light citrus, light menthol, ester, fruity. Palate Medium intense, balanced, complex, light wood, faint smoke, floral, light prunes, light berries, faint chocolate, ester, light citrus, light menthol, dry. Finish Long and warm, faint menthol, balanced, complex, olive, light floral, dry, ester, light citrus, faint caramel. If you enjoy a meal at the restaurant you can try this rum for free. No need to tell the price level of the menu 😉

After tasting it for over 40 minutes, I can quite understand why this rum was chosen in a starred restaurant in Paris... For a grand arome savanna, this one is really elegant and full-bodied. The typical aromas of strawberry and pineapple are complemented by rich, juicy blackberries, vanilla pulp, green Granny Smith apple and candied ginger. The alcohol is incredibly well integrated, the 15 years in the cask do not interfere at any point and overall this is really a very tasty drop and gives hope for more great grand arome rums from Savanna! Great cinema! In a direct comparison with the Swell Herrline 2009, it definitely has the edge for me!

Savanna Masterclass by RumX on 27.09.2024 Thank you for the opportunity to taste these great rums side by side. Now there have been a few more changes for some. Savanna is more complex than expected. So how to start with this rum? Not the mega complex one, but Mr. in his deepest pure form! I would compare it to grandma's fancy noodles, a simple dish that neither the mother nor the wife can manage, even though it is a simple dish without much blingbling. It's the same with rum. For me, it's the perfection of strawberry Hubabubba with Wickblau sweets. I don't think it gets any better than that.

Das schöne an einer masterclass ist ja das man auch so rare Rums wie diese Abfüllung probieren kann. Und was soll ich sagen. Hier erfüllen sich sämtliche Erwartungen. Im Prinzip ist dieser Rum wie der Herrline, die Rahmendaten was die Lagerung betrifft sind ja auch gleich. Allerdings glänzt diese Abfüllung durch eine unglaubliche Eleganz. Frucht und Holz spielen hier intensiv zusammen und bringen die hohe Komplexität richtig schön zur Entfaltung. So lässt sich hier gut erahnen warum der Restaurantchef hier für die exklusiv-Abfüllung zugeschlagen hat. Solche Eleganz im Glas lädt zum Food Pairing geradezu ein. Glückwunsch dazu. Nur zu schade das man da von einer Flasche nur träumen kann.

Heute konnte ich das Savanna Tasting nachholen, nachdem ich gestern leider nicht dabei sein konnte. Der Herrline ist schon ein doller Savanna der für mich knapp vor dem Savanna Paris RX20222 landet. Beide sind sehr komplex (der Paris wahrscheinlich noch etwas mehr als der Herrline) und haben ordentlich Power. Aber die große Überraschung, dass Fass #991 gefällt mir persönlich am besten. Etwas dicker im Mund, mehr dunkle Noten, geile Balance. Davon brauche ich eine Flasche :D

Franconian Rum Tasting Gang & Jakob, 2023-07-27 Part 3: One of the rums of the year I was particularly excited about. No hope of getting a bottle but at least a sample... Thanks! I was not disappointed. A HERR essence, but not brute but fine and elegant. In addition to the strawberry, there are also notes of Wick Blue and other tropical fruits. Mature, but without wood. Reminds me a little of the HV HERR, only more mature.

Wick blue / ice candy meets the artificial Savanna strawberry with a little olive, salt and cocoa. Very elegant. Very few flavors, but they really pack a punch. Best gentleman I have tasted. Tasted again in the Savanna high ester master class and I confirm my first tasting: the exuberant variety of aromas of the HERR profile is reduced here unnoticed to a few main aromas and that's great. Put another ounce on top

An extreme nose. Extremely fruity, tastes more like strawberry than a ripe strawberry. Ester, solvent and more menthol than a Fishermans Friends. And still round. Extreme in the mouth. Arrack, caraway, menthol, solvent and artificial. Pineapple!!! Hardly furry, which usually really turns me off when it comes to rums from the past. Warming finish. Not for every day, but an experience. Many thanks to Bonn for this specialty. 🤩🤩

Savanna high ester tasting. A nose of obvious elegance. An instant classic. The distillery's hallmarks are there, but coated and magnified. The alcohol is perfect on the palate, just present to enhance the aromas of menthol, red fruits and bitter herbs. The finish is very long, with just the right amount of bitters, esters, red fruit and sandalwood. A real success!

Thanks to a friend who shared a dram, cause this bottle was not available in Rhum Fest Paris, and thus no photo. Simply amazing, deep and complex. Spices, esters, some chemical notes including some strawberries, maybe even in the Haribo candida version. And this was with just 0,5cl dram, I think a proper drinking session would have even increased my appreciation

Dieser Rum besitzt eine hervorragende Balance zwischen Fasseinfluss und Destillat. Dabei ist der Eichenbeitrag eher ein stiller Begleiter; vielmehr liefert das Fass eine feine toastige Grundstimmung, welche die ungemein fruchtigen Ester in eleganter Weise in Szene setzt. Amazing integrated full taste of tropical fruit. More integrated than HERRLINE, but the taste of fruits disappear faster Rumy z destilerie Savanna jsou jedny z mych nejoblibenejsich. Doporucuji kazdemu vyzkouset zejmena vuce esterove kousky jako je Grand arome nebo HERR. Tolik ovoce v nekolika malo kapkach tekutiny jste dlouho necitili.

This Savanna is also right at the top. The nose is simply super intense, fruity and picks me up completely. The palate is also simply a firework of aromas. Everything you would expect from a top HERR. Alcohol perfectly integrated. Unfortunately, the price is not so affordable, so this will remain a sample.

Post-tasting Masterclass Savanna high Ester. Wow, the HERR blanc Paris belongs to the world class of rums for me. Great nose, esters, tropical fruits, but strawberry is also recognizable. On the palate too, this rum is very funky. Many thanks to the RumX team and Sam Pitarch for allowing me to be part of this masterclass.

Little Savanna GA & HERR cross tasting: Very fruity on the nose. Intense and to die for. Way more elegant and better balanced compared to the LMDW. Excellent on the palate as well. The balance between esters, fruits, wood and some herbal notes is truely amazing here. I can absolutely see this alongside top notch cuisine.

RumX Savanna Masterclass 27.09.24: Wir auch der HERRLINE sehr fruchtig in der Nase, hier noch mit einer spritzigen grüner Apfelnote und leichter Ingwerschärfe. Im Mund geht es wieder genauso weiter, super frisch und angenehm. Hammer teil, vielleicht der beste Savanna den ich bisher im Glas hatte.

Oh my! So I find this rum in every respect ... somehow ... exaggerated. Excessively strawberry. Exaggeratedly estery. Excessively strong. Excessively round (is that even possible?). Excessively good (that's really not possible 😉). But unfortunately also overpriced.
