Forty-one years in the cask and it still comes out swinging with glue, solvent and varnish — the Hampden markers survive the age intact. Underneath sit very ripe tropical fruits, mango and pineapple leading, with a buttery, oily body and a roasted note that builds toward the finish. Only there does the wood finally step in. At 53.5% a couple of tasters flag a slight pricky heat.

A rum tasted at Rhum Fest in 2024. An explosive nose of esters and very ripe tropical fruit with Cenentit glue. On the palate, a firework display of esters and fruit with woody notes. The finish is more marked by the barrel, the first palate by fruit. There's also an increasingly distinct roasted flavour. An excellent rum, though I'd deduct a few points for the slightly spicy alcohol.

Pretty old and also expensive, but that is what samples are for 🥰 Nose Fresh, balanced, fruity, light citrus, mango, spice, light earthy, light nutmeg, light wood, faint smoke, light floral. Palate Oily, round, balanced, light wood, fruity, light mango, pineapple, light floral, faint leather, light polish, spice. Finish Long and warm, light wood, faint rubber, light tannins, light tobacco, clove, pineapple. Empty glass Pineapple, light mango, light polish, light floral, clove.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

On the nose a very nice Hampden with beautiful depth. Ripe tropical fruits, pineapple in the lead. Glue, a bunch of esters, a slight vanilla. On the palate a beautiful explosion of fruits and esters, a nice patina with this well-buttered side. A well-present roasted side, which intensifies towards the end of the palate. The wood appears during the long finish. Very very nice!

The nose is explosive with varnish, solvents, esters, tropical fruits. On the palate lots of esters, glaze, roasted, tropical fruit and light wood. Not perfectly round, very powerful overall
