#7259 08.09.2026 Relaxing with a few samples celebrating my new personal best on a speed hike. Listening to some nice tracks on Spotify by Kraken89, R2Spawn, Inner Lux, Luktum and Avalon. A very nice bottling and the price tag at release was really good in my mind. Medium intense profile with fruits, spice, pastries, herb, smoke, polish, molasses, chocolate, roasted wood and some ginger.

Tasted at SDR’24 Initially not very exciting because of an overly present neutral alcohol undertone. With enough agitation it does get more exciting with notes of tropical fruit, orange zest and walnut skins. It’s fun and complex with spiced black tea and a slight side of petrol. Clearly old and of great quality on the palate. Opens fruity and sweet with very dark sugars, before becoming musty and more herbal. Unfortunately it’s overdiluted and the water is too discernible, indicating a careless or inefficient (perhaps overly efficient from the producer’s point of view) reduction. The finish is delicious with dried fruits, frothy milk, cappuccino and herbal tea. But extremely short and with too much presence of raw sugar, again because it has been made too thin. Another example of ‘what could have been great’, but strands in just good.

Deep, full and elegant. Notes of vanilla, figs and spices and then a very long aftertaste with cocoa beans and ginger. what a gift box for an excellent Rome 👍

Finally popped this one open after bringing it home from a visit to the distillery in 2014 - the year it was bottled. At the time it was their most expensive bottle in the gift shop. Unfortunately cask strength bottles were not very popular at the time. Therefore this Savanna is targeted at someone else than me. And to most it will be a very fine pour. Initial natural sweetness is followed by a hint of the typical Savanna notes of brine and olives. Nowhere near Grand Arome territory but unmistakably Savanna.
