Edit: tried again as a blender. More than happy with it. Corrected a little upwards again To describe it briefly in the words of my sons, it smells like summer vacation, apple, banana and apple. But they weren't allowed to do more than smell it. For me, a very balanced and well-balanced rum. Unfortunately, it lacks a bit of funk in the mouth, which prevents it from getting a better rating. But all in all, the 2014 vintage seems to be a very good year.

#4726 18.05.2024 Sitting at home enjoying a few samples. Nose Fresh, light wood, fruity, ester, balanced, pineapple, overripe. Palate Round, balanced, ester, fruity, light roasted wood, banana, overripe, spice, faint floral. Finish Medium long, light wood, ester, round, light vegetal, dried fruit, light citrus. The empty glass has light herbs and some chocolate. This is a very well rounded and mild <> H in my mind and it could easily be an every day rum actually 😊

In my Hampden <>H 2014 tasting today, this one unfortunately ended up in 3rd place. This is mainly due to the strong competition. The main difference is that it is very soft in the mouth, almost watery. The alcohol is integrated very well.

Very tasty! The ester drone is more in the background here, even if the typical Jamaica funk is present. This Hamoden is almost a palate flatterer. Unfortunately, the fruit basket in the mouth doesn't last too long. At best, you can simply treat yourself to another sip.

This Valinch & Mallet is quite similar to the Morisco. The differences are marginal. The alcohol is also well integrated here, it could almost pass as a sipper. In the finish, the bitter note is even more pronounced compared to the Morisco

Unusually mild for a 2014 <>H. Otherwise they're always super brute. This one is a little more delicate. But not the best 2014 I've had in a glass.

A sufficiently old <>H, light and fresh, but... Nose: very pleasant, fresh and sharp esters. Lime with lemon, almost a bit like dishwashing liquid. Sweetness of honey, marzipan and ripe pineapple with tart-sweet passion fruit. Very light vinegar and a fine medicinal note, as if from a plaster. 8.5 Palate: Ester, clear. But it quickly becomes very metallic, almost briny. This makes it appear somewhat sharp-edged and young. Slightly bitter and a little umami in the aftertaste, together with lime and pineapple. A little too unrounded and metallic for me 7.7

This rum really packs a punch 😁. Full ester power with lots of fruit and some wood ... Slightly bitchy at the beginning which doesn't bother me at all... Alcohol very well integrated for short storage. In May Tai it comes well but lacks here (as expected 🤣🤣) the woody part which is very important for me (e.g. an LP). Great fabric .... Price is a bit too high though 😒

This is a pleasure. A very nice Hampden with lots of fruit, esters and a little wood. The 9 years are absolutely sufficient for this profile. Nothing more is needed, The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The price is also reasonably reasonable ... even if there are comparable distillates for a few euros less.

A great Hampden with partly continental aging. Rich nose. Just enough estery and loaded with tropical fruit. Round and balanced palate. Firm and quite long finish. A firm, complex Hampden but one that really lets you drink a lot. One of the best Hampden tasted in the last 18 months!

Side-by-side of ten recent-ish 2014 <>H bottlings: On the nose the bottlings are pretty much on a comparable level. RumClub and Family Ricci take the crown today, showing a bit more fruitiness relatively speaking. Overall the bottlings with some reduction provide noticably less intensity. I prefer the higher/full proof bottlings here. Again, on the palate the factor to set the different bottlings apart comes down to fruitiness and alcohol integration. Among the lower ABV bottlings the V&M Star(h)um takes the crown with TWJ coming in second. The difference in ABV is even more pronounced on the palate with the full proof version clearly ahead. Overall winner here is the RumClub, followed by Family RIcci again. Most balanced with lots of funk yet also a good amount of cask impact and good alcohol integration. All in all non of the bottlings is bad in any way. There are only minute differences in the bottlings and the winner might change on another day. I‘m very curious to see how the vintage will develop over time - assuming we‘ll see some more bottlings in the coming years.

Nice "smoother" <>H, with the typical profile, but without the wildness and edges of a CoR or the young wood of a WDC, rather a little lighter in comparison. Very balanced, tasty and drinkable, but not able to completely inspire me. Nevertheless a very good <>H.

Relatively typical Hampden profile, in direct comparison with other representatives of the vintage somewhat spicier and with less acidity; makes the rum somewhat more accessible. In terms of aromatic complexity, a little more restrained than other 2014 Hampdens, which for me subjectively means that this release is not my favorite - but that is complaining at an extremely high level. A very good rum.

Really a nice Hampden, on the nose and palate exactly what you expect from a Hampden. Very balanced fruit and ester notes, and the alcohol is very well integrated. Price is really okay for the quality & I find the design very appealing.

Clearly recognizable aroma, it is a hampden in its own right: fruit, glue, aromatic power. In the mouth very balanced spices, vegetable and balsamic come out, always with the hampden profile in the background. The wood surprised me, more tending toward green wood, elegant and fresh. However, this rum has a huge problem that cannot be solved, there are few bottles around.
