A rum tasted at the GRF in 2024. Herbaceous nose with dried herbs, tar and pineapple. A soft entry on the palate, then the aromas rise in power, still with dry herbs and tar. The finish is short, marked by wood that lingers for a long time, with a slight bitterness that makes you want a refill.

Actually quite ok for the price, but in my opinion it's not really a banger bottling. Which of course perhaps earns a little extra point for the fact that swell released it relatively punctually for a change. Sorry for the sarcasm. My conclusion, a summer sipper for in between, but nothing where I would need a bottle of it now

Grande Arome and Easy Peasy sounds rather misleading at first. According to a German proverb, opposites attract (Gunnar is welcome to correct xD), perhaps this is a case in point. The proverb doesn't prove true here. Less (nevertheless unmistakable) Grande Arome, but more "easy peasy". The much sought-after Savanna GA profile is clearly recognizable. Chapeau to Swell, because the name says it all! Perhaps just the right thing to enter the world of Grand Arome and begin the arduous hunt.

8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get is smoky plum fruit schnapps.😉, that gets some funky tones with varnish and quickly becomes estery, overripe, even rotten tropical fruits like flambeed banana, going into caramelized yellow fruits pastry, marzipan, bourbon, dried apricots, spicy notes, Madagascar vanilla.Aeration brings out herbal, vegetal notes with olive, brine, earthiness, flowery notes with geranium... Very complex, but balanced and round, delicious. 8,7:On the palate, there is nice, sweet, all spice strawberry marmelade, with overripe banana added, becoming a bit metallic, salty, Whisky like with brine and olive notes and acidic with a minimal bitterness, all balanced. Woodiness says 'Hi' with pepper, is a bit toasted, smoky, a bit roasted and yellow fruits come with pastry, fruit cake, gingerbread. The rum is drier now, grapes are felt also. After a while, we meet flowery notes. All is round, tasty. 8,3:The finish is medium, with dried fruits, still strawberry present, woody, a bit roasted, dry, acidic, round, with warm spices and olive notes. Nice price/performance. This is a successful Galion for balmy summer evenings... I really like it. Wonderfully fruity on the nose, as if you were sticking your nose straight into a pot of yellow fruit jam. Initially fruity and sweet on the palate, then changing to a spicy and salty spectrum. This has something!

An unusual profile for Martinique, which seems to be the style of the Le Galion house. For its young age, the wood has had an influence, particularly with the bourbon, giving a rather rounded profile on the nose. There's also butter, some medicinal notes (esters), tropical fruit (banana) and quite a few spices of all kinds. A rum that looks sweet but has character. The attack on the palate is rather evasive. Flavors mingle and form a melting pot of tropical fruit, sugar, caramel and pastry sweetness, sweet spices (vanilla, baked apple), butter, medicinal notes (on brine and olive) and bourbon. The whole is original and tasty, but perhaps lacks a little structure to bind it all together. The alcohol is well integrated, however. The finish is rather lively, but not long-lasting. Fruits (dried and exotic), spices (pepper, cinnamon), caramel, bourbon and a buttery finish that lingers on the palate. An interesting cuvée, a change from the classic agricultural profiles.

Very unusual profile and definitely a good Le Galion. Very fruity, sweet and perfumed at the same time, mineral on the nose. The taste is sweet, sour, salty, smoky and floral at the same time. As if you were drinking olive brine, eating fully ripe, sour strawberries and adding a little smoked salt and candied banana chips😃... But nothing for every day either, but certainly makes some exciting drinks. Could pass blind as a savanna grand arome ...

👃 You get hit right in the nose! You can let it air for a few minutes without problem. The "Grand aroma" is omnipresent with smells of nail polish remover and almond, enhanced with ripe tropical fruits, lemon and a bit of wood. 👄 The palate is rich and you find this mix with dried fruits, a bit of vanilla and a floral and pastry side. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is long.

Starts super fruity on the nose. Great aromas of tropical ripe fruit to dried apricot, which seems clearly recognizable to me here. It becomes much more colorful on the palate. Much spicier and a potpourri of fruit. Exciting, young rum that is fun to drink.

Palate Medium intense, light wood, faint roasted, balanced, light leather, fruits, light citrus, faint honey. Finish Medium long, light wood, fruits, light pineapple, light leather. Interessanter Galion mit komplexen Noten von überreifen Früchten- Ester, speziell Erdbeeren, sowie Holz und Vanille… Dennoch etwas biestig und kantig, vor allem im Abgang. Alkohol könnte also besser eingebunden sein. Kein entspannter Sipper.

4 Savannas in a cross comparison: Winner is the CDI 2007, nice intense GA profile with slight wood and good balance. Close behind is the Rum Nation with a similar profile but a bit more one-dimensional. 3rd place and winner of the heart: Easy Peasy from Swell, despite the young age clearly a GA with everything that belongs, surprisingly good to drink and round. Far behind is the Unshared for Germany, quite boring in direct comparison. But it is also a Traditional.

Tasted at RhumFest 2024. It's been a long time since I've tasted a rum from this distillery of distinctive rums. This Swell selection is no exception. I rediscovered the markers I know from banana and brine in particular. But, even though it's a truly great aroma, I found it easier and not overpowering. A nice discovery.

Immediately reminds me of a Harlequin candy, tangy. A smoky veil adds on top. Lacks balance. I preferred the one from The Nectar, released now 1 or 2 years ago. Small test, mixed with Stade's JAWS, the result is better than the two tasted independently.

High Ester from Martinique?! That was confusing at first, but this rum is something special, not often encountered. Basically a blend of Ester rum and Agricole, bringing together intensive aromas. Possibly comparable to Savanna HERR.

On the nose, well-marked esters, with very ripe tropical fruits (banana, mango) with more mineral notes. But there are also strong scents of strawberry. The palate is strong in iodine, green olive. The strawberry is even more present than on the nose. Really very original. We leave the beaten paths. The briny, salty side makes us travel to the Atlantic coast of the island of flowers.

Something new! Very fruity on the nose, I get banana, apricot, papaya, pear, melon. On the palate surprisingly bacon-y, a bit of olive and brine. Overall a rounded, exciting profile. Can't hurt to have it on the shelf.

Je m'attendais à un rhum facile (vu le nom) sur les marqueurs des agricoles antillais, je suis surpris :) très puissant, un rhum de caractère plus sur les hydrocarbures que sur le fruit. Robe que je trouve magnifique. Nez puissant, vient à moi. Caoutchouc et fruit exotique. Attaque franche, l'alcool est vif. Le caoutchouc fait place au fumé. Le fut arrive en final. La puissance m'empêche de déceler beaucoup d'arômes. Une belle chaleur reste plusieurs minutes.

Tried and bought immediately (€68) at GRF 2024 in Berlin. Grand Arome as style fits well and reminds me of Savanna. However, much lighter. The name Easy Peasy fits quite well for me. Additionally, it has some smoky notes. I like it overall very much.

Like most Grand Aromes for me a mix of cheap chewing gum and Chinese Baijiu, not my thing. But for fans of the profile a great price-performance ratio and nice maturity for only 3 years.

Pleasant bottling, a likeable easy sipper. The nose is relatively nondescript, but on the tongue comes nice fruit like strawberry and mirabelle, then drifts quite interestingly into a salty olive note. For the price a nice release.

The smell totally reminds me of bacon with cheese... makes you want to bite into it. But also fruity. The taste goes towards olive for me. Also nicely smoky and again that bacon. Medium-long finish.

My personal note- it tastes like Jamaica white high ester rum. And I like that kind of rum, of course not for every day drinking, but for special occasion…to taste something different. The color - looks like yellow or golden…it reminds me a color of healthy pees. The nose- I can smell two major things- esters and bananas…and of course some hints of fruits (of course overripe). The taste I can feel funky ester tones, sweet fruits and something like olives, but it’s little bit different from olives taste in Paranubes - this one is mild, not that strong…maybe just the brine from olives.. I like that the alcohol is integrated and doesn’t “bite”…

Super nez!!! Très pâtissier avec des notes de fruits confits , et un très joli et discret vernis. Pour moi on est clairement sur un excellent Baba au rhum. Quant au goût, c’est pas mal non plus. La canne à sucre domine clairement la bouche avec toujours ce côté pâtissier et fruits confits. L’alcool est très bien intégré et la finale plutôt long. J’adore ce type de Rhum.

A very successful LeGalion from Swell. Unusual for Martinique, the molasses aged in bourbon barrels is totally atypical and reminds me of the S.B.S French Antilles. There are lovely esters, overripe fruit, bananas in the taste and aroma, and a wonderfully strawberry finish. I call this rum the taste of "bonpari", the Czechs will know what I mean. For the price, a very good piece!

15/03/25: tasted @ Brussels Rhum Festival. First time tasting something from Le Galion and it was a very nice surprise. Interesting nose, and the palate had a note that tasted like meat. Cool stuff this. 20/07/25: retasted at 1st BYOB party with friends: I raised my original score by 0.1 points.

First thing on the nose is sweet ripe fruit, plums, apricots, red apples, banana, touch of strawberries, light floral, it also brings up bit of technical notes with glue and nail polish, and also salty olives and spices. Initial fruity sweetnes on the palate quickly transitions into salty olives, spices, peppery notes, smoky woodiness and medicinal bitterness. Only my second aged Galion, the first one was Nectar but this one I like more. So much so that I went to get a bottle.

It's not that easy. But exciting. Strawberries, dried banana chips with a hint of salt and peanuts, green, mild olives. Very drinkable. In combination with fresh strawberry tart and Black Forest cherry cake a good companion. But also fun solo.

Saffron, ripe banana. Another example of how to emulate Hampden, certainly with a drinkable result... but it loses territoriality and character. Fortunately, the saffron stands out, otherwise it would be hard to distinguish it.

Mon coup cœur 2024 !!! Sans doute le meilleur rapport qualité prix du moment !!! Son parfum est d’une puissance qui ne laisse pas indifférent ! On sort clairement des sentiers battus de la Martinique pour se rapprocher des standards grand arôme qu’on retrouve chez Savannah ! La bouche est complexe une explosion de parfum entre la banane mur le fumée on s’y perd et c’est ce que j’aime ! La finale, malgré une longueur limitée appelle à y revenir toujours est encore ! Pour moi je le range dans la catégorie : Must Have !!! Merci Micka d’avoir proposé cet ovni !

Interesting. I'm not a fan of agricole rums but this smells beautiful. Slightly ester-like on the nose, fresh tropical fruits and overripe bananas. Slightly spicy on the palate, you can taste salt and a medium-long finish. Good choice.
