Near-universal thumbs up here, with one lone reviewer finding it mostly glue and not much else. The rest go the other way: ester, varnish and overripe pineapple on the nose, then a warm oily palate of mango, dark berries, vanilla and light pepper. A few pick up smoke and mint on a long, fruity finish. Cane-juice funk that stays juicy rather than harsh.

I just think this rum is great, even though it only has 50% ABV. But the fruity nose is just amazing. On the palate, the fruit really comes through, especially dark berries, plus some woodiness and a bit of vanilla. Really tasty.

Mostly glue in my nose and not so much more, maybe some fruit. Grassy and spice initially when tasting, but after a while sweetness, brunt sugar and foundation floral. Not bad!

What a rum this Mhoba Strand 101 is! From the exuberance at the start to the end of the tasting. Right from the nose, the esters and fruity notes are there. On the palate, the woody and peppery/vanilla notes show up alongside the esters. The long finish reveals rich, sweet, and surprisingly fresh notes.

#6611 05.04.2026 Having a couple of samples before bedtime while listening to some nice tracks by Astrix on Spotify. Another bottling with a very good price tag in my mind. The nose is medium intense and fruity with overripe fruit, light caramel, ester, glue, light mint and faint smoky wood. The palate is warm and oily with ester, overripe fruit, banana, mint, faint smoke, light glue, caramel and spice. The finish is long and warm with fruits, citrus, mango, faint coffee, spice and light roasted wood.

On the nose: Ester, glue and overripe pineapple. Lime notes. Ester level is pleasant on the nose . Taste: Warm.Esters. light woody notes. Fruity, little bit of dark berries.Vanilla notes. Little bit of peppery and smoky notes at the background. Balanced Finish: woody and little bit of smoky notes at first. Then you get these fresh, earthy and minty notes. Once again, good quality Mhoba rum, especially in that price range. Easy sipper, but it still gives you very good palate. I really enjoyed sipping this rum.

Really pleasant this South African Rum, very strong on the nose with glue, solvent, and very ripe pineapple. On the palate, it’s very fruity and spicy, with vanilla, chili, roasted pineapple with ripe berries, well-marked esters, and a little menthol taste. The rather long finish enhances the fruity side with smoked mango. It’s quite rich, I really like it. A really great discovery, especially at this price.

My bottle from other batch. Lot № 2024S1. Nose: My God ! Intense, rich, powerful aroma ! Dominate of solvents, esters, glue, paint, polish. After, you can find some fruits, like pineapple, peaches. Little bit of honey, sugarcane. Touch of cardamon & oil. Also tosted young wood & resin. Palate: Mmmm ! Honey, juicy fruit syrup, smoky notes, sugarcane juice, ripe pineapple, melon, guava. Little bit of glue & esters. Oily texture, rich fruity taste. Unbelievable tasty ! Aftertaste: long, fruity. Still lot of overriped melon, peaches, mango, pineapple, maybe dry apricots, some toasted wood & light touch of glue & paint. Conclusion: absolutely fantastic rum, for this price (something like 90$). High quality, good balanced, fantastic profile. Highly recommend!
