Rom Deluxe releases many delicious bottlings with equally beautiful design. Availability is accordingly poor. The profile of the 2002 vintage just doesn't seem to be mine, even the sometimes popular FRC couldn't fully convince me. Can't really identify it, but there's something about this actually good rum that I don't like at all. Thanks @Zabo!

Edit With much mercy corrected a bit upwards. No more is possible. Too woody. Expectations for these releases and the hype afterwards were/are big. Unmistakably this release is equipped with the typical markers of the vintage. Unfortunately, it cannot come close to the previous Romdeluxe Trinidad release. For me this rum stayed in the barrel way too long and is overlaid. I also tasted a bitterness that is absolutely too much for me. But at least the alcohol is well integrated.

Nose starts of nicely, delivering the expected: menthol, yellow fruits and peaches as well as some wood. Nice. Similar picture on the palate: nice start with the notes from the nose. While mintiness/ freshness is less present than in other bottlings, it is definitely there. After a nice start, this one turns quite noticeably, however. Basically all freshness and notes are gone and overwhelmed by wood. Yet not in a pleasant way tbh. While I‘m fan of longer aged bottlings, here the rum feels past its prime. Side-by-side with the previous (2 year younger) RdL, this one is the loser by quite a margin. Its not entirely bad - straight on the „good“ / „very good“ edge - but just a bit disappointing as the first bottling (and a lot other 2002s) is better.

8,8:On the nose, the first impression is really fruity, juicy with various fruits like peaches, passion fruit, mandarine, slightly minty, as the wood is roasted with caramel and spicy. On aeration, some industrial hints arise with tar and rubber, vanilla and nuts, some smokiness and pineapple...Very balanced. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is tasty, sweet, very fruity, enticing, with tropical fruits like mango, passion fruit, then peaches and mandarine, the wood is roasted with caramel, nuts, confectionery with apple crumbles, vanilla.After resting the rum, red fruits with strawberry and cherry come out, minty molasses and some tobacco. 8,6:The finish is medium long, dry, slightly tannic, the molasses is minty, earthy with pencil shavings, the wood roasted and spicy, pairing variety of different fruity notes with dried, tropical, green and yellow fruits..

The mint is there, but not as pronounced as I'm used to with the 2002 vintage. The long aging is doing its work. Taste a bit like the 1999. Excellent piece

Beautiful matte bottle under 100€. You can feel the alcohol, but it's very drinkable. I recommend it even to beginner rum lovers to discover new flavors. The mint from TDL is an unmistakable taste that you'll never get tired of.
